Excellent AHS Season
dvdhaven-122 January 2016
This AHS season was for me by far the most entertaining one. On reviews of individual episodes of Season 5 (and previous seasons), I saw too often remarks about what AHS "should" be, which is rather presumptuous for a viewer to make statements about. It is debatable whether AHS is a "horror" story, but that depends on your definition of horror (of which there isn't a single one). Rather, when you watch this series for its entertainment value, this season has reached a much more interesting level of complexity than previous, more linear seasons that were at times suffering from dull moments. Characters are far more extreme, story lines develop in many directions before resolving themselves all the way at the end. The only other season that had me in its grip in this way was "Asylum," especially the earlier episodes. Overall, this season sets the benchmark for future seasons of AHS in a significant way.

Hotel finale
jackDee-565659 February 2021
Really great finale, although too similar to freakshow but at least I cared about these characters in hotel more so it worked out well, i would have been down with a more darker bittersweet ending but it worked out for me anyway

I will not be reviewing Roanoke as there is nothing to really say

Evans is Amazing in the whole season of Hotel
ahfarms15 January 2020
Of all the American Horror story seasons and episodes I have seen Evans in, this one stands out. When I see him as other characters and then see him as March, I am blown away by his acting abilities. His ability to be March is leaps and bounds beyond the envelope of acting. Pure character creation if I have ever seen one. I cannot name any other actor today that nailed an imaginary figure like this one. If this was a motion picture he would have been nominated for an Oscar.

Great finale for a great season
MomentIMDB25 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Hotel is a great Ahs Season and it is certainly iconic, but at the same time it is highly underrated and should get more recognition. The entire season has exquisite aesthetics, incredible direction and photography, excellent and iconic performances and characters such as Liz Taylor, James Patrick March, Sally, the Countess, and etc. In addition to good writing, horror and narrative, along with great character development. The season is very solid and always maintains a good rhythm and does not decay, unlike coven and freak show, although those seasons are very good too. The weakest is the plot of the children and he drinks from the countess, very interesting plots but they lacked one more ending or more epic conclusion, and also inclusion of plots that were not so important as to justify themselves. Still, the rest is incredible and makes that not so boring. But the worst thing is the plot of John Lowe, I think his construction was very good but it was predictable and the discovery of John Lowe as the killer is not as shocking as expected. Luckily this plot does not make the ending disappointing, since the rest of the plots close very well and satisfy the viewer with those incredible stories, such as the countess with her past, donovan and her relationship with iris and the countess, james Patrick March along with the history of the hotel and its dark past, Ramona and his relationship with the Countess and search for revenge, and Liz Taylor in search of love and happiness, all this is great and they manage to close well, leaving the viewer more satisfied. The best episode in my opinion is battle royale episode 11 and the one I liked the least is Mommy, episode 3. The season finale is the best in the series in my opinion and manages to successfully close the season, and although it is a happy ending, It does not clash with the rest of the series and it does not seem the typical Disney ending, but manages to maintain the spirit of the series. Oh and the departure of Jessica Lange is somewhat disappointing, but I understand the actress and she has every right to look for new projects, and the participation of Lady Gaga was great and her performance was very good and her character was amazing. My rating for the entire season is 9.4 out of 10.

The best season ever
icantoo21 November 2023
I loved the murder house, I love the coven, I love 1984, but this season knocked my socks off. I have watched this season three or four times since it first came out. This is unequal to any other season! It thrilled me, it made me laugh, it scared me. It spoiled me. I want more of this. I NEED more of this.

The story, the actors, all top tier. The whole thing so brilliantly done it leaves me speechless. Lady gaga shocked me! I could care a less about her before this show and now I am a fan of her art. I thought she was a cheap gimmick queen but she dropped it long enough for me to see her talent. She best be thanking this show for all it did for her. She is gimmicky no more.

I cannot say enough about Evans. I cannot sing his praises high enough to do him any justice. He excels at everything he does. This series is the perfect marriage for him. This season specifically he shines like a star in the night sky they all did!

S5.E12 - Great Episode to End a Great Season! [9.6/10]
panagiotis199329 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
(S5. E12) My Live Reaction / Review for American Horror Story Season 5 Episode 12 ''Be Our Guest''. The previous episode was good and I gave it a rating of 8.6/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. The ghosts of the hotel are ready for more killing. The killing has to stop if they want for the hotel to succeed. The fact that Sally is now so interested in social media is funny. Liz is the new boss it seems and its fun. Liz has cancer? Oh no, these are such awful news! Liz chooses to die by being murdered so she can stay at the hotel forever? That's such a tragic ending but also beautiful. The Countess is back?! What's going on? I loved the interview with Billie Dead Howard, really spooky stuff. Overall this episode was good enough for a finale and I really enjoyed it. My rating is 9.6/10.

American Horror Story: True Blood
MattBrady09930 January 2016
Miss Hazel Evers: "There are more stains in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy".

OK I'm just going to start the review off like this, American Horror Story: Hotel was really disappointing. It sucks saying that, because I enjoyed the past seasons and I was really looking forward to this one. It's not the worse season ever made (I've seen much worse), but I really didn't care about this season or what was going on. I know a lot of people are going to defend this no matter what and it's fine if you like this season, but sadly I just wanted more from it.

Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson and Denis O'Hare were hands down the stand outs of this season. All four of them were so brilliant and unique in their roles. They made this season watchable as the characters are interesting and the back story's are engaging.

I can tell a lot of effort went into this and the people behind the scenes really do care about this show. I respect that and it's must be really heartbreaking that this season didn't do very well when it comes to being well received from critics. Lets just hope that hard work will pay off in the next season.

Jessica Lange isn't in this season (I wouldn't blame her), but who replaced her as the somewhat of a lead is lady Gaga, and that's when I got seriously worried. Gaga isn't the best actress in the world and I was very curious what she can bring to the show. Lady Gaga acting in the show wasn't anything that great or even special. She was really wooden and the other actors in the show really outshine her. I was so mad when she won the Golden Globe, as Kirsten Dunst should have won for Fargo, but that's just award shows.

And that's really what I think of this season, as everything else I've already forgotten about. I just wish this season would give me more of the horror and least of the vampire bullsh*t. I hope the next season is better than the season that we got.

AHS - HOTEL: Sex, blood and a lot of bad choices.
edicionccq23 December 2019
Vampires, ghosts, killers, and lots of sex, if you go to the Hotel Cortez, that's what you are going to find.

I know, that plot summary doesn´t make sense. But this season doesn't either. It's extremely boring, the plot didn't engage me. I feel like this season was all about being gore and sensual that it didn't catch my attention.

The highlights in the acting department this season are Wes Bentley, Finn Wittrock, Denis O'Hare, Cheyenne Jackson and Kathy Bathes. Other things that I would like to highlight about the season are the locations. It really seems like they put a lot of effort in making the Hotel Cortez being a wonderful place full of death and misery, and also with many secrets.

I don't have anything else to say good about this season. So I won't say much. This was the third season I followed and if it wasn't for the promising plot of the next season, I likely would stop watching the show. This season gets 5 out of 10.

Well ... thank god this is over .. fingers crossed for season 6 to be good enough making us forget what happened in this one.
Aktham_Tashtush15 January 2016
Well thankfully my pain is over with this finale. Finally there is no waiting for the next episode thinking it might get better.

The story of the Hotel Cortez started appealing and encouraging by showing so many freaky scenes, ghosts and mysteries but then comes the 5th episode and things started to get really dull ,, Lady Gaga helped making the show even worst. the show after awhile lost it's concentrated plot and started to deal with many characters as they're all meaningful for a minute and then back to the "sadly" queen of the show Gaga.

The screenplay really had so much potentials and could have reached to the level of AHS: Asylum as it's been most of the time all in one large enclosed set so more unexpected things could have appeared ,, but they kinda ruined it.

The Cast, well again, Hated Lady Gaga,, her excess shaggy sex scenes were kinda of failed and unsuccessful try to patch the many holes in the show ,, like they wanted to convince us that she's a sex symbol in the show, Well she is not , move on.. but as i said before she would have really fit amazingly in AHS:Freak Show.

The other characters "Acted" okay , and when i say acted it means Just Acted, liked the detective character at first (Wes Bentley) but then they killed it and he just disappeared, wished to see "Dylan McDermott" doing that one and it could have been an amazing and believable link to the first season. And the same for (Gabourey Sidibe) she was like "hello AHS", "goodbye" !! what !! :P also Jimmy Darling role (Evan Peters) they could have focused more one him it would'v been more understandable, but it went one episode where the character shines then on the rack.

The cinematography was really good, many effects appeared in the first half of the show, freaks coming out o' the bed .. etc, then it just went to a "normal" level.

So after all i don't really blame the cast for this mess as much as i do blame the writers for making a shattered script and not a well properly flowing diagram where you can feel the peak of the plot.

season 6 is in nine months from now so i hope they make a new story that can be easily followed and creep us the hell out of our minds, and i hope they don't bring back Gaga or any characters like that, god we know she bought .. i mean she got the golden glob .. but please i LOVE this show and i want to be able to watch it for many years.

Fingers crossed ... and the low ratings of the finale comparing to the other ones should be a good enough indication.

Severe Dip in the Franchise
rivkasieff2 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I totally loved AHS from the season one opener. It was unpredictable, dark, twisted and contained many heartfelt performances. There were characters you could care about even if they weren't all purely good, because you could see there was some good inside them somewhere.Seasons 1-4 were a joy to watch. Each season created their own little world and that's where as a viewer I would reside for that little while, (I watched 1-4 all within a month or so).

Hotel suffers from too many characters with uninteresting back stories and a mixture of no one to root for. Much gore and repetitive unerotic sex scenes instead of interesting narrative and heartfelt performances. Yes it did lack a strong Jessica Lange Character and I felt sorry for the actors despite them being well paid. Dark can be done well, this was just a gore fest mess.

Lady GaGa was actually not that bad, she seemed to embody her character of the countess and I put down her lack of emotional range to perhaps her cold and calculating personality. She did fine. But where were the characters you could actually care about? They were mainly vile, selfish and egotistical. Even Liz Taylor's character ( brilliantly played by Denis O' Hare ) and showing that rare heart and humanity let himself down with the facilitation of Queenie's murder. The cop was a psycho. Alex was selfish. Sally was a beyond selfish attention seeker who sought out others misery. March was an unexplained abomination. It was never really explained why Donovan hated his mother so much. Was there really much point in Angela Basset's character?

Here's hoping that season 6 will be more of a return to form.

Disappointment
davidrez3 October 2016
I was so terribly disappointed from AHS s5. The worst boring exhausting season ever! The plot dragged slowly and dispersed, it was so much mess and was very pervert. The plot definitely was not interesting or scary! one big BORING and tedious season! The seasons before that were full of excitement and sweeping story lines... (well, not all of them) but still better from this one, and not to mention Jessica Lange's great performance that was so missing. I felt I had to try really hard to like this season. There was kind of a dark and suspenseful atmosphere at the hotel but still there wasn't satisfaction. Unfortunately it made me wonder what's wrong with the writers?! I can say that Lady Gaga might surprised with her act and actor's make- up wasn't bad at all but i really was expecting to be a good interesting plot.

A load of crap
sackofwhine17 March 2021
People watch this thing unironically and think its good? This is soap opera level bad- the production design, shot composition and acting is what keeps it somewhat interesting. Even in the last episode they keep introducing new plot threads because they obviously don't know what to do with the hodgepodge of previously established plot threads that went absolutely nowhere. An extremely unsatisfying and confusing mess, but not in an intellectual way, where it challenges you as a viewer, but in a "failed filmstudent" type of way, where things just happen because they would "look cool".

A massive joke of a show that gets lauded for absolutely no reason other than the commendable performances and cheese factor.
