Quotes
-
Julián Martínez : Was it necessary, to disguise as a gardener?
Ortigosa : It is not a disguise. I am a gardener.
Julián Martínez : Ah.
Ortigosa : This Ministry thing is just to get some extra cash at the end of the month.
-
Pepín Bello : There is only one thing more stupid than mankind as a whole.
Julián Martínez : What?
Pepín Bello : Each man in particular.
-
[Alonso has just called out Luis Buñuel over what he perceives to be mistreatment of Rosita]
Alonso de Entrerríos : If you want a duel, you shall have it. Choose the weapons.
Luis Buñuel : Weapons... Just fists, my friend, my thing is boxing.
Alonso de Entrerríos : What is that?
Luis Buñuel : Boxing is a sport of gentlemen where one only uses his fists.
Alonso de Entrerríos : Only the fists?
Luis Buñuel : Yes.
Alonso de Entrerríos : You can't bite?
Luis Buñuel : No.
Alonso de Entrerríos : Or scratch?
Luis Buñuel : No, of course not.
Alonso de Entrerríos : [turns to Julián] You cannot headbutt either?
Julián Martínez : No, Alonso.
Alonso de Entrerríos : And you call that fighting?
[punches Buñuel hard, knocking him out]
Alonso de Entrerríos : Then, that is it.
-
Federico García Lorca : You're leaving too, right?
Julián Martínez : Why do you say that?
Federico García Lorca : Because you have that goodbye face.
Julián Martínez : Is it so noticeable?
[short pause]
Julián Martínez : Well, yes. We might not meet again.
Federico García Lorca : Don't be so sure. We still have dreams. I imagined a poem last night. "The dream runs on time floating like a sailboat..."
Julián Martínez : "... Nobody can open seeds in the heart of the dream".
Federico García Lorca : [surprised] But how can you know a poem I imagined last night? You are from the future, aren't you?
Julián Martínez : Federico...
[extends his hand to Lorca, who then shakes it]
Julián Martínez : Goodbye, my friend.
[they embrace]
-
Federico García Lorca : Are you from the future?
Julián Martínez : No, I'm from Carabanchel. Why did you ask me that?
Federico García Lorca : Because you look like you came from there. From the place where people run around in colored pajamas. I dreamed of you, Julián. Before us was a dark haired girl running, who later was on the ground... bleeding. Did you dream of me?

Salvador Dalí : "A new art." There is only one art, and in painting it is the art of Zurbarán and Velázquez. A great one, Velázquez. I'm trying to grow a mustache like his, just in case I get some of his talent. Everyone talks of new art to look interesting, and the worst is that we must feign excentricity so we are considered modern artists. I'm so tired.
Julián Martínez : But, don't you believe in... in Cubism?
Salvador Dalí : No.
Julián Martínez : And in Surrealism?
Salvador Dalí : Even less.
Julián Martínez : So what do you believe in, then?
Salvador Dalí : In whatever pays the best.
