Fun also terrible
marinmichaelian15 May 2020
This was the visual equivalent of doing whip-its; really fun for a while but absolutely nothing to take away. The campy production value, acting, and dialog are worth the 90 minutes, and it pulled from every spook-show from the 50's and 60's. Would like to see a B/W version.

Also, you can easily make out a Coors Light can with the logo blurred. Not sure if they even asked to use it, or if the Coors people thought this was so bad to not be worth the free advertising. For Coors.

Campy fun
txnicole33324 April 2020
This reminded me of Full Moon Production type movies (Demonic Toys, Gingerdead Man). If you go in expecting special effects to be a little cheesy, and acting to be campy, than you can just enjoy this fun little comedy horror flick.

Cool back story, shame about the film
Leofwine_draca15 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
DISTILLER is an indie horror flick with a not-bad back story: a ghost hunter captures and bottles spirits in glass jars before dying and leaving them for his niece to inherit. Then, of course, she decides to open them. This is a typical 'haunted house' style movie with very little incident and lots of attempted atmosphere. The poor technical qualities and lack of an interesting storyline make it highly forgettable.

Indie Horror Flick That's a Lot of Fun
JGReviews11 April 2020
Distiller is a fun indie horror movie with a bit of a Ghostbusters or Gremlins vibe to it. Now this is an indie movie, so it doesn't have the mega-million dollar budget of a big Hollywood horror movie, but knowing that I just had fun with the movie. This isn't one of those hardcore gory horror movies or be taken overly seriously, rather it's one where you should just relax and enjoy the ride. If that's the kind of thing you're into, like me, then definitely check out Distiller!

What an ugly bear.
nogodnomasters11 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Matt (Steven Sacco) is a Ghostbuster/demon hunter that would make Kolchak envious. He has a very entertaining and simplistic style to catch demons, involving trapping them in a partially filled bottle of distilled spirits. (Note to self: Does not work on a Yeti.) After being missing for 20 years his niece Blue Moon (Amy Ciupek) isn't it a shame when Hippies marry, inherits his home, a home that contains a cellar of bottles filled with evil spirits.

Being it is the fourth of July, it is time for young adults to throw a party and no sense letting 20 year old partial filled bottles go to waste.

Steven Sacco was great in the opening scene showing us his skill, which unfortunately really didn't change much from demon to demon. The party which provided us with promise was a let down. The humor just wasn't there for me and perhaps that is because the film is aimed at a younger audience than myself. Sure Amy Ciupek was cute in a wet bikini, but I am used to starlets that can fill them out. The name calling was what an 11 year old might use, with words like "douche bag" and "d@#k." There were some sexual innuendos like "independence from my pants" and "Pinball wizard, let's see those flippin' fingers." PG-11? Daniel Noonan who played Charlie Moon was unconvincing, reminding me more of a Nickelodeon child actor.

The film is what a "Goosebumps" fan might enjoy. If you liked this film I might recommend an oldie, "Saturday the 14th."

Fun spooky throwback
Smgrte23586010 April 2020
This is a fun 80s throwback! Definitely rocking some Ghostbusters and Evil Dead vibes. Indie, but with heart and that goes a long way. I thought the practical/visual effects were really fun. It's the sort of CGI you don't see nowadays.

Fun horror and gore
lindapalmer26 June 2020
If you like the genre, throwback to great 80's style 'Ghostbusters' without the budget, you'll enjoy this. Definitely a B movie that has great FX. Other parts were not as polished or professional but you forgive it as you want to see where the story ends up.

Fun, campy, nostalgic
JCanni6812 April 2020
A deliciously fun movie that is a throwback to 80's horror comedies like Ghostbusters and Gremlins, this movie is an entertaining ride from start to finish. It never takes itself too serious, and the intentional acting style reflects this. The vfx are pretty decent for an indie, and the ghosts/creatures are pretty cool! I was thoroughly entertained.

Beware of those vaping bottles!
beemtoaustin3 July 2020
Don't open any bottles in strange places! This is a crazy fun throwback to the good old days of indie horror with some cheezy fun gremlin-like characters and effects Lighten up, pop some corn and you'll have a blast watching them make this happen on a shoestring budget.

Such a fun film!
craigahrens10 April 2020
In a nutshell! This film is so much fun to watch. Writer/Director Andy Schroeder did such a terrific job. I enjoyed the story line and the film's pacing. I didn't find myeself drifting off or jumping ahead like I do with most films I watch. I loved the characters. They were entertaining and certainly held my interest. Bravo to all. This one gets a solid thumbs up from me!!

Darn right creepy.
harriscalvin-113 April 2020
Distiller was down right creepy. This film takes a look at a group of individuals capable of removing & capturing spirits and driving them into bottles of liquor. Fine liquor of course. Lol. Director Andy Schroeder did a good job securing strong performances from all of his actors. The music, editing, and cinematograpy were all on point.

Drinks on the ghosts
jesse-1731516 June 2020
As a filmmaker I love watching films like this! It doesn't take itself too seriously and has moments of suspense, which is something any good horror film should have. Love the soundtrack, love the quirky monsters. A fun ride!

80's vibe fun!
directortim201218 April 2020
I came of age in the 80's. And this movie so took me back to that fun era! Kind of Spielberg and Ghostbusters like, but on an indie budget. Honestly, I liked this film more than Stranger Things, which also has that kind of retro 80's vibe. Distiller was just more fun for me. I had a ball with this movie!

Distiller Scares
jbmaughon7 July 2020
The Distiller is a horror movie with great lighting and visual effects. The smoke monster effects were better than I could have imagined. It's got some great lighting and composition and some good jump scare moments. Well worth the watch.

Good original take on spirits and ghost.
jimlewisjr16 April 2020
Great script, unique plot premise and characters and make this a film fun to watch. An original idea that builds well and winds up going beyond the walls of the haunted house it creates. Many of the special effects rival films with much larger budgets. If you like ghost stories you won't be disappointed.

Two beers and relax into a indie bit of silliness
kennyhughes19 May 2020
It's one of those indies that if you can relax your how gloss, super budget film habits...maybe a beer...maybe get your 420 glow...it's all gonna be just fine. There is some clever quips and that sorta Ghostbuster glow to it. I adore the spirit trapping power of booze bottle horn blowing to capture the mean spirits! Where storage of the evil after lifers is more profitable than capturing them! It's indie indie so if you are to enjoy a flick where you don't know the actors and enjoy the charm and simplicity of low budget visual effects...jump in. My friend calls it a two beer, two shot or two puff kinda flick. Sounds good to me.

Fun horror romp
williamgway15 April 2020
I liked this movie and that was a surprise. Not sure what to expect but found this horror/comedy film a bit of fun. It lacks the horror/gore of bigger budget flicks and I rate that as a plus. The film really works on a fun premise and good comedic moments. Sure it's quirky, but it is also funny and recommend a watch. Give it a try

Fun indie horror ride
tucia13 June 2020
If you like throwback 80's horror flicks then sit back, relax, and enjoy the fun ride that Distiller will take you on. It's perfectly silly and overdone just like some of the campy original hits of this genre and you'll find yourself smiling throughout.

retro indie scary pic
caseykilloran17 April 2020
Enjoyed this retro indie scary pic. I felt like this self-aware horror-comedy has some really good part. Really dig the vibe and also the special effects. Really impressive for an independent film. Great job!

Fun Indie Throwback Horror Film!
robertjuster18 April 2020
I liked Distiller a lot as a sorta 80's throwback indie horror film. It was fun as hell, just don't expect Avengers-level graphics and special effects. It was funny too, in that rad b-movie campy way. Totally worth the watch on Amazon Prime!

For Those into Indie Horror
daveh233213 April 2020
I have a soft spot for independent horror movies, as I think Hollywood big budgets make it hard for me into buy it being real. When someone's niece inherits his house, where he had caught demons distilled into bottles, we get to enjoy a fun B-movie that delivers with entertaining characters and wild situations.

Unique fun plot and characters
lbruhnca22 April 2020
I'm not a huge fan of horror films, but enjoy watching the ones with a plot. Im especially intrigued by films with ghosts and supernatural elements too, like Incideous, and Distiller doesn't disappoint. You never know what your ancestors might leave you, if anything, but I'd hope for a pot of gold rather than bottles of spirits, lol. What a unique premise to a saturated genre. Well done to these filmmakers for creating a fun horror film, with quirky characters, unlike we've seen before.

Interesting Horror Movie
abuckeye-9363214 April 2020
Distiller is fun throwback horror flick that uses all the tricks of the trade like scary music and camera angles / movement to make the viewer uneasy. Two thumps up for me.
