The end..
Wililjam19 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This is episode marks the end of 'The Defenders'. What else is there to say? Some things about it makes me happy, some things makes me less happy. I feel as though they crammed too much into this episode, I also feel as though they destroyed the Hand way too easily. It didn't feel as though the Fingers of the Hand were dangerous in any way, not in the way that the other independent shows have portrayed them.

One thing I did like was the action scenes, even though some of the scenes were muddy and too much of the "shaky camera" -action. Another thing I liked was what they did with Daredevil and Iron Fist, I wonder if the Iron Fist will be in the first episode(s) of the next Daredevil season. Who knows, we'll see.

I don't know what else to say about this episode. Some people probably enjoyed it more than I did, but I really disliked how they just "offed" the Hand. I give the finale of 'The Defenders' a 7/10 thanks to the action scenes as well as some of the acting.

Do not understand
hollybeat6912 September 2021
I do not understand all of the 1 star reviews. Did you watch a different show? It's not Endgame but it certainly isn't terrible. Some people delight in trashing stuff I suppose. Watch the show, it's nowhere near that bad, ignore the trolls.

Episode 8
bobcobb30121 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
An okay finale just not one that really justified the show happening. It was a lot of talking and a lot of rehashed scenes from all of the individual shows. They wrapped things up a bit too early in the episode and that forced more dialogue than we would have liked to see.

I wish they would have done something to set the stage for all of the future seasons of these shows. They didn't really do a good job of doing that at all.

The End of the Hand?
cobi-8062019 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This review will be as much about this episode as the season as a whole. I liked the season's build up towards a great battle between The Defenders and the Hand. While it did have a battle I don't feel like the season reached the heights that I was hoping for and here's why:

Throughout the season we see the top members, the Fingers, of the Hand discuss their plans and we get to know that their plan has always been to return to K'un Lun. They need this life-substance so they can continue to live their lives until they need to go back to get more, I guess. Not quite sure whether their plan was to stay in K'un Lun or return after they've gone there. The Fingers are continuously being called very dangerous throughout the season and while they may be good at 1-minute fights they don't make an impact that really enforces what's being said about them. Sigourney Weaver's character for instance never does anything remarkable except for a few scenes of dialogue and then she's dead, replaced by Elektra. Feels like her story wasn't done yet and I was hoping to see more from her. It's a bit disappointing that her story ended with her death used just to surprise you. A death that barely had any consequences whatsoever, it just subtracted her from the final episodes. Weaver is a great actress nonetheless. As for the rest of the Fingers, their actors are good too but once again their power is exaggerated. It seems like they've dumbed down the Hand a little bit. They know Luke Cage has unbreakable skin and instead of actually getting weapons that can harm him one of them gets captured trying to fistfight Cage. Murakami brings a baton to try and kill his enemies. I would think a weapon with an actual blade like Elektra's swords would be more useful. Daredevil is using armour, Luke Cage is armour and Jessica Jones has super strength. Why deliberately put yourself at a disadvantage by bringing a baton? This is the guy that Stick said bossed over Nobu. Nobu, the ninja who nearly killed Matt in season 1 of Daredevil and came back to almost kill him again in season 2. How did Nobu not kill Murakami and take his place when Murakami's choice of weapon is a baton? When they explain that these are the Fingers' last lives they start to die off pretty quickly. Suddenly they weren't so hard to defeat. It's more that their minions distract everyone from getting to the Fingers. These minions are not the silent ninjas we see during season 2 of Daredevil, no, these seem to be non-special fighters put in to give a bit of action. It's nothing wrong with action, I love action. I'm only surprised that the Fingers aren't throwing in everything they've got when they're so close to fulfilling their sole mission. They mention they have connections everywhere but now they don't have the ability to call in reinforcements to deal with their enemies? I guess I expected more from the Hand in this series where all of the heroes work together which in turn would make the enemies up their game. I guess not, it seems to have had the opposite effect.

I'm really sad Stick had to go but I guess that was the only option they had to go for after all. I did think Claire was going to die when Luke mentioned no innocent people should get harmed in the explosion. She doesn't get harmed but Misty does, she loses most of her right arm. This seems to be the worst lose of the entire episode. Matthew sacrifices himself, or so you would think, and the group believes he got crushed under the rubble. I myself am a little surprised that he survived this but I'll go with it because I want a third season of Daredevil of course.

In the end it feels like something has been accomplished but still it didn't feel like anything was at stake because you know none of the main characters of four of Netflix's shows are going to die. You know the city of New York is still going to exist the next day because where would they otherwise film the upcoming seasons, not to mention the Spider-Man movies set in the same universe. However, I did enjoy the fight between Elektra and Matt and the scene where Foggy and Karen just stares at the open door as Matt doesn't appear was really well done.

Overall, I enjoyed the season but the ending didn't reach the heights I was hoping for. However, there will come a future season and hopefully they can improve things like the villains living up to their reputation and not being so easily defeated. I'm interested to see what happens in the absence of the Hand and what repercussions it will have. Is the world better off without them or did this just open the door for a potentially worse threat?

Four heroes join the hand against the Hand!
Reno-Rangan24 February 2018
SEASON 01:

I might not be eligible to watch this. Because I'm thorough with 'Daredevil', but I haven't seen the other three series. Maybe I could try it now, but anyway, I've watched it and what I think is, it was good. I loved Marvels' big screen's big heroes coming together. This is a small screen thing and the idea was not bad at all.

They have kept it to the limits. I mean, if you have seen both the seasons of 'Daredevil', you know that it was so powerful, especially the villains. In this, at first, it looked promising, but the end was decent. Still the Marvel fans would love it for being simple. But when four superheroes come together, it should have been a mega thing. So felt, that was what lacked in this. Yet I got well entertained with just 8 episodes. That means there's no drag. All were to the point.

I was curious whose going to lead them. In avengers, it was led by Stark, the Iron-man. Since this tale took place in Hell's Kitched, no doubt it should be Daredevil and kind of that's how it all happened. But there's always a beginning to everything. Particularly these powerful men won't just join the hands. They did not make it a complicated thing. It all took like one fight and then they allied.

An ancient organisation called the Hand, is now deciding to claim back their glory by bringing down the New York City. Within them, they have differences, but their vision is same. It all begins with a massive earthquake, a warning bell that only a few people understood. Those were with two identities, the superheroes. On the other side NYPD tries its hand, but they had no clue where to begin. These superheroes decides to take the Hand by themselves. It all leads to one final battle which reveals how it all end.

Maybe they wanted to keep it low. If you observe the ending, who had ended where, there's more to come. The season two could get even bigger. I feel they could get back to what Marvel is famous for. I mean mighty battles. Come on, there was only Black Sky against four. The match was not fair. So for me, it was good, but not great as it should have been like any Marvel's cinematic. So I'm very eager when the follow up comes out. By then, I'll be ready with those three dues I was saying about.

Is that it?
Leofwine_draca11 February 2022
And so quickly comes the finale and it's over just like that. Nothing remarkable here, just an extended fight scene with a few low-budget looking CGI effects added to the mix. I was expecting more from the choreography although the melodrama is dialled up to eleven. Not the worst thing I've seen, just sort of..."is that it?".

If they wanted us to think this was good, they shouldn't have made Daredevil series for us to set out standards.
sexyshao9 October 2020
This is what happens when you have too much riding on one superhero's back. Bad bad writing and equally had directing. Waste of Daredevil character, forced use of Elektra and even more forced attempt to make Avenger like ensemble on TV. Finale is down right boring. Even the fight sequences. No adrenaline even during the fights not even by the actors. Shame how they wasted a great superhero. They just copied Batman's League of Shadows storyline downright to Asian origins of The Hand to all the resurrection stuff and they did it badly

Finally it's Over [7/10]
panagiotis19937 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Live Reaction / Review for The Defenders Episode 08 (Finale): The 7th episode was mediocre and I gave it a rating of 6/10. I hope the finale is somewhat decent but I don't have any expectations. Finally time to take the Hand down. They have to get out of the building if they wanna to destroy it but they keep fighting with the bad guys, im curious to see what they will do. The old lady is really trying to get inside Danny's head. Damn the way Collen ended this guy was clean. Im a bit confused because while Elektra now remembers her old self she still acts like the black sky. It seems like there is no redemption for Elektra? What is going on?

Matt has to leave the building if he wants to live. The building falling while Matt and Elektra are kissing feels kinda poetic. I wonder how Matt will survive because any normal person would have a 0% chance of surviving something like this. I feel bad for the police woman losing her hand. But I don't feel sad about Matt because he has to come back for Daredevil season 3. About Elektra I think it's best they let her die, she was never a good character in my opinion. And of course the episode ends with Matt being alive. Finally im done with this show. While this episode is decent the show overall isnt. My rating for this episode is 7/10.

Bad ending
rjd-9132820 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Bad ending of a bad show. 20minutes of stupid brawling in the dark mixed up with stupid dialogues. 15minutes "oh no daredevil is dead" and in the last second he is shown alive. I have no idea how anyone can rate this show over 6 points and in specially this bad last episode. I didn't like at all and even skipped some minutes in the end.

A well deserved 1 out of 10
whubaddum-1279923 September 2017
Afflicted by the same pacing problems as the Iron Fist series, the finale somehow manages to heap on unforeseeable layers of insult to a cripplingly injurious amount with its cringeworthy dialogue, filler action, anemic plot and total lack of suspense. It would be surprising if any more series of The Defenders get commissioned since the writers clearly have no ideas left if this episode is anything to go by. Disappointing.
