A trained detective
bkoganbing9 March 2017
This all begins with Donnie Wahlberg and Amy Carlson on a trip to the bank to get a loan and meeting the usual frustrations therein. Right in the middle of negotiations a team of bank robbers with automatic weapons hold the place up.

Although he's down on the ground with his wife, Danny Reagan is a trained detective and an observer. He observes enough about this group and how it operates and characteristics of the individual members to start an investigation. The robbers bad luck.

The real bad luck is in why they pulled this job and others. It's a heartbreaking story taking Wahlberg back to his tour in Iraq.

The other story here is a more humorous one as Will Estes and Vanessa Ray find a suspicious package in a park and call in the bomb squad. It turns out to be someone's idea of a practical joke, but not so funny if police resources were needed elsewhere. This one is Tom Selleck's headache as the media get a hold of the story. It causes a split in his official police family.

The story with Donnie Wahlberg is one of the best of the series. A real heartbreaker.

Beautiful

Warning: Spoilers
The storyline involving the injured hero was very moving. It balances out the Spanky scenario. Every time I watch the last scene where Danny takes the veteran to get treatment, I blubber like a baby. If you have a soft spot for the military, you will be moved as well. Beautiful.

Warning: Spoilers
Was this episode a heartbreak! A female veteran finds no way to help her husband, the latter having lost both legs, while defending our country. She joins with people who agree with and rob the bank so that the money they take may be used to pay for his rehabilitation.

The episode paints a very poor but realistic picture of the government's refusal to financially help out our wounded veterans.

The sub story here about the neighborhood character involved in protests was far weaker than the main story.

Garrick and Frank's new guy on board come into conflict. That was inevitable as the former saw the new guy as a threat to his position.

Great Episode

Really the finest episode I've seen in the series. Well written and acting really well done. Don't want to spoil. The crime was despicable and the unexpected turn as to motive was perfect. Great job writers.

Sloppy Episode

Warning: Spoilers
The story lines here are good but the writing is sloppy and amateurish. Besides the whole Sergeant Gormley issue where the man was promoted the previous week, the factual errors regarding the military also show a level of incompetence that smacks not of a lack of talent but laziness. The factual errors could easily be resolved by simply using google and wikipedia, in 15 minutes you could rewrite this story to accurately reflect reality.

All-in-all the factual and continuity problem render this episode almost unwatchable. I certainly hope that the quality of the episodes improves.

Garrett's wrong and there are plenty of vets that could have played Richard
MiketheWhistle12 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The stunt by the "artist" that appears to be, and is intended to so appear, be a potential terrorist act would not be viewed as Garrett says. He says that people will think it's an over-reaction by the police to treat the actions as a terrorist act. Post 9/11 and Boston marathon bombing, and in NYC in particular, the public wouldn't be tolerant of such actions.

I''d also say I'm disappointed that an actual disabled vet was not used for the character Richard. Although Battleship was a ratings disaster, it used actual vets including one in a leading role. I'm very certain there would be plenty in the NYC area, and they could have also help make the military errors fewer.
