OK porn with violence carefully omitted

Warning: Spoilers
Unlike the '70s when rape, S&M and other violent activities were prime arrows in the pornographer's quiver, in recent decades the terminology "non-violent" is often affixed to the video packaging to indicate compliance with more restrictive notions of what is supreme court-street legal. "Abducted" suffers from this squeaky clean approach, but director B. Skow still manages to hold one's interest with an off-beat cast, good performances and the requisite hot sex.

Superstar Julia Ann is the big name in an otherwise B or C list roster, playing the mean stepmother (natch) of cute and bosomy Chrissy Nova. I had previously enjoyed Chrissy's work in the soaper "Lesbian Family Dramas" but she has yet to make her mark in the Adult industry, with just a handful of mainly gonzo credits under her belt so far.

Rounding out the femme cast is a vastly underrated performer, Odile, who Skow has thankfully showcased on several occasions, notably in his "Daddy's Girls" features. She reminded me of Christy Canyon but without the huge boobs - an uncanny resemblance. Perhaps (and I'm likely correct) the great Christy would not have achieved iconic status still going-strong today had she had normal size breasts.

Odile plays one half of a bumbling team of kidnappers, opposite the often seen but only in small roles Jack Vegas, perhaps "Abducted" being his first career leading man assignment, apart from imitating Jon Hamm in one of those dreaded hardcore "parodies", this one of "Mad Men".

Feature opens with an extended sex scene of Julia as MILF with Chad Alva, who gets the billing for his humping but has no characterization. Chrissy is a peeping Thomasina at the window spying on their sex, and angry Julia throws her step- kid out of the house.

Odile & Jack are coincidentally waiting outside and they snatch the girl, holding her for a 5-figure ransom. Little did they know that her inheritance from her late dad is a trust fund that's nowhere near coming due, and that step-mom hates her and likely won't cough up a nickel to get her back.

I enjoy the tongue-in-cheek aspects of a Skow movie, generally attributable to his regular screenwriter David Stanley. This time out they make fun of the situation, and though the subsequent plot developments are improbable and silly, they never descend into the disgusting facetiousness of current industry heavyweights like Tarantino and the Coen Bros., whose vast acclaim and cultish popularity mystify me. Obviously unthinking fans would scoff at me bringing up a pornographer like Skow into the same conversation with such sacred cows, but I find his honest and humorous approach to storytelling far superior to their shaggy dog/infra dig nonsense.

So instead of killing the girl as planned, they listen to her suggestions, and stage an abortive con wherein Jack gets slicked up and tries to get Julia to invest in some get-rich scheme. Before he can hump her, she sees through his charade, aided by the tell-tale tattoo he's lamely tried to hide with makeup and figures out that he's one of his daughter's kidnappers.

Plan C is to kidnap Julia Ann, which they do, but then, as Chrissy points out a bit belatedly, there's no one left to send the new ransom note to. Plot threads are sorted out for a happy ending in which the couple's lone desire of having a baby via in vitro fertilization is substituted for by Jack impregnating Chrissy at the climax of a torrid threesome. Prisoner Julia had bamboozled them with a commitment to lend them $30,000 to finance the baby-making, but after her trickery calling the police she gets an audience-pleasing comeuppance when little Chrissy sucker punches her right in the kisser.

It'a fun piece of porn, right down to Skow's sardonic use of the sound of a baby crying all through the end credits. While superstar casting (usually rounding up the same gang of tired porn players in a large group) is the norm, I enjoyed having no- namers supporting Julia for a change.
