Snowballing Soap!
chrissso31 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The first six episodes of this 12 episode mini-series do a good job of illustrating the Russian WW2 experience. This historical context is of course balanced with a proper amount of soap to captivate viewers and that's OK. But that balance is short lived and by the seventh episode the series moves beyond The Great Patriotic War and gives way to a snowballing sense of soapiness. Sadly, by the final two episodes almost all historical context is lost and the mini moves into ridiculous chick flick status and IMHO becomes laughable!

Apparently I was not Star Media's target audience when they produced this series.

That said the series does display many of the impressive qualities of other Star Media productions and that is commendable. More so this series does an excellent job of illustrating how the Soviet Government was so obsessed with turning on itself that it could never survive as a legitimate form of government.

Only recommended if you love WW2 and want to know how Russia navigated the GPW … and have a lot of time on your hands. 6 of 10 stars!

POST: To show IMDb what I think of their disabling their message boards, I am vowing to stop using Amazon's pay per view service! Google Play, VUDU and Netflix are excellent alternatives ... and are often cheaper. Thanks IMDb ... way to treat your dedicated customers who want to share their passion for films and history!
