Why Am I Pregnant?
nogodnomasters4 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Ellie Barnes (Lara Gilchrist) loves her son and heroin. She overdoses in the street and wakes up pregnant in a hospital room strapped to a table. She manages to get herself loose, but the staff appears to be dead and emergency generator is running low. After scrambling around she finds enough people to make a film and discover people/creatures in latex suits with bug eyes are after them for their blood, with the details given later.

The film is monsters after people, and people trying to figure out a plan. There is some bad theology, a developing love story and a tear-jerker moment too. Much of the early part consists of Lara grunting, sniveling, panting, and breathing heavy while trying to hide. She grew tiresome fast. And PLOT SPOILER: When I lose a hand, a lot of blood and then cauterize it with a stove top, I am generally down for a good 20 minutes or more.

Guide: F-word. Corpse nudity. No sex.

Story got lazy
lindo-julet14 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Liked the filming and performances. Even thought the creatures were decent (not great at all). But that story. Oh that writer got lazy. Don't know why a woman who is desperate to get back to her son would not be focused 100% on the priest with the card that can close the gate, as he's clearly gone mad. KNOWING the priest left the techy woman for death (which that got completely swept under the rug), HE should have been the focus. Not sure WHY they'd let an elderly dude do all that he did and let him walk past them after all said and done.

They pleaded with the priest to not turn off the boiler instead of using the flashlight to go to him and give him a shove and let the monsters have dinner (by this point, she knows she has the power to kill the creatures). I don't believe the mother is truly fighting to see her son again, cause no one with such high stakes would just plead instead of taking action. If not her, then the man she was with.

Characters are useless when they shouldn't be. Tech girl doesn't even know how to close the gate/lock it up behind her after turning the power back on. Like, really?

They've established that these creatures cannot die but have the idea to set explosives. So does the drug do it only or explosives too??

Yes, there are the details like the underground facility not entirely being underground, but what kills this movie is the lazy story.

Don't watch this. Find another movie

Just terrible. Once you see a 6'5" 260 lbs man let a 5'9" 100lbs wet man cut a wire, you'll realize it's too late and your more than 1 hour in. (Ask me) Script? Horrible. Plot? Horrible. Monster costume? Horrible (just like the aliens from the TV show Land of the Lost) Acting? Horrible, the only one who did a great job was Henry. The mother sound like she was having a orgasm just by breathing instead of sounding scared.

Good Premise But Falls Over In The Execution
texasarcane5 July 2017
Style is everything and this low budget horror film doesn't have much of it.

The premise is interesting. A woman overdoses and awakens pregnant in a hospital underground. There are monsters and they're not a bad idea, just underused.

The acting, dialogue and pacing is sub-par. Could have been a good film with a little more effort. The director tries several different story angles and none of them works.

Never really got off the ground and ending was disappointing. Low budget is not an excuse to make bad films. See my review of "Southbound" for a low budget horror film that is excellent on a low budget.

Barely Worth Watching
thingmaker200118 May 2021
The idea is muddled and the dialog is frequently too clever... Also, all of the characters have secrets which are to be revealed at the most dramatic moments--frequently by the characters spending a lot of time talking when the situation is desperate and seconds are supposed to be critical. Furthermore the monsters are not terribly convincing and are shown enough that they lose any sense of uncanny menace that might have been there when they are first glimpsed.

Do not expect the story to make sense on any level and you might be able to enjoy the film anyway as it is technically decent and the actors are not bad.

Strap yourself in for a ride of absolutely nothing...
paul_haakonsen2 May 2021
I must say that I saw this 2016 movie's cover and that definitely caught my attention. And the movie's synopsis founded fairly interesting enough, so of course I found the time to sit down to watch "Blood Hunters" (aka "One Drop") from writer Corey Brown and director Tricia Lee.

But this wasn't an overly impressive horror movie, not even by a longshot. Perhaps I am just too seasoned in terms of horror movies, but I found "Blood Hunters" to be rather mundane, slow paced and somewhat bland.

It was a combination of a storyline that was rather devoid of interesting events and an equally pointless character gallery that ultimately sank the movie for me. I mean, I didn't really buy into the storyline and found it difficult to actually take it seriously. And little did it help that the characters were about as interesting as faceless mannequins with no personalities or character traits.

The acting in the movie was fair enough, especially when taking into consideration that the actors and actresses virtually had nothing to work with here. It was nice, though, to see Julian Richings in the movie.

Sure, if you are a newcomer to the horror genre, then I suppose that there will be some enjoyment and entertainment to be found in the 2016 movie "Blood Hunters". But if you have seen a fair share of horror movies, then you might just want to skip on this particular movie.

The creature effects in the movie were rather lame. It was painstakingly obvious that it was just guys running around in pretty badly made rubber suits. Sure, the concept of the creatures were interesting enough, but the props just killed it - and not in a good way. The creatures were such a disappointment, especially after having seen that interesting-looking one of the movie's cover.

"Blood Hunters" is not a movie that I would recommend that you waste your time, money or effort on. My rating of director Tricia Lee's 2016 movie lands on a generous three out of ten stars.

Would not recommend
megamanjim26 August 2017
This was not a movie I would recommend. I

The plot made zero sense. It was random. The writing had so many leaks it was difficult to watch, like the bright as day "underground facility".

Stereotypical horror movie where the dumb teenagers never leave the house with a killer in it... aka, no one leaves the hospital when the doors are wide open.

Don't watch. Waste of time.

Worst. Film. Ever
redrobin62-321-20731129 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This movie made no sense. None. zero. zip. People with no reason to be around are around; monsters that supposedly hunt for blood yet let pools of blood lie around un-lapped in a hospital. Oh, did I say hospital? I mean animal-testing center.

At one point a woman in the building said it was an underground facility. Yet, there's the sun, shining bright in all its glory in an open doorway.

As of course, everyone is trying their best to get out of this crazed facility, but when the priest (?) opens up the outside gate no one leaves. As a matter of fact, a man and woman do, then change their mind and GO BACK IN to face more carnage.

Why a priest is needed in an animal research facility is beyond me. Maybe they think their monsters need salvation. Hell, they even built a chapel for the priest.

The woman who is so clever than she can wirelessly turn on the facility's lights from the chapel is unable to unlock the exit doors?

And then there are the monsters themselves - nothing but ridiculous white rubber costumes with people in them simply walking around on all fours. Blood Hunters is an INSULT to movie making. Why did I sit through the full 90 minutes? My friend cooked me a good dinner and I was starving; the least I could do is show my appreciation by sitting through this ridiculous flick. What a waste of time.

Better Than Expected.
zephyre799 February 2020
I was expecting a low budget, zero suspense, rubber monster and horrorless horror. I was not disappointed. The storyline however, was pretty decent even though it was quite basic. The acting was OK and the general environment was dark enough to be atmospheric for the most part.

I wouldn't browse my dvd collection, find this and choose to watch it again (if I had it on DVD which I don't) but It was worth streaming as part of a streaming package and watching the once.

Great indie horror flick
realestatemonkeyinc19 August 2017
This is a refreshing take on the creature genre. The filmmaking team managed to balance the scares, tension and suspense with great character work that drew me into the story. The writing was great and the directing was superb. Can't wait to see what they come up with next!

Good story, good acting, bad creature makeup
jehern13 April 2020
OK, yes it's a basic plot, but it's done very well, I think the story and acting are better than most big budget horror films. If you can sit through a Resident Evil movie and not complain you should be blown away by something like this.

I happen to love creepy hospital movies, I don't know why. This sets a good mood, the right amount of mystery and creepiness. The characters aren't Dostoyevskian but were interesting and layered enough for a horror movie, the revelations come at the right times and are sufficiently hard to predict. The only negative is that the monsters look like leftover alien costumes from a 50s Sci fi movie.

Strong ideas, good work from the cast & crew - but the mixture of elements is out of proportion
I_Ailurophile9 October 2023
The premise sounds promising. The mystery of the scenario is enticing. It feels fairly evident that writer Corey Brown and director and co-producer Tricia Lee took inspiration from survival horror videogames in building the story, what with intermittent announcements regarding a power generator, communication with a detached voice and a secretive supporting character, the presence of many scattered, bloodied bodies, and gradual dispensation of insidious overarching plot. It feels more and more that at the same time that 'Blood hunters' is an original creation, it plays in a familiar and tried and true space. Even with instances of violence and high tension, as the length quickly advances this doesn't necessarily carry a major spark of vitality, but it's engaging enough to keep us watching - and sometimes that's all a genre flick needs to be.

The "horror" here is more in the nature of the material than in the feelings it inspires, but I appreciate what everyone involved put into it. The dialogue and scene writing are critically heavy-handed and unwieldy, especially as the narrative at large and the genre elements get bogged down in quiet character moments, and the precise timing and pacing of the course of events is decidedly too precise and mechanical for its own good. The story in and of itself is strong and compelling, though, with some interesting ideas at play, and there are firm foundations in the scene writing. The cast give performances that are earnest and admirable, if constrained by the broad limitations of what probably should have been built as a more restrained, measured horror-drama rather than a horror-thriller. Like the storytelling, Aaron Gilhuis' score vacillates between superb themes that add to the tension and atmosphere, and those that are too light and ill-fitting for what the saga should or could have ideally been.

Recognizing that the simple design of the creatures is borne from the modest resources of the production, I still think their appearance is too plain and unsophisticated to entirely pass muster. The costume design and special makeup that bring them to life are excellent, however, as well as the practical effects including blood and gore (those instances of post-production visuals are unfortunate, but aren't altogether awful). Lee's direction is capable, though it joins Brown's screenplay in the tonal difficulties. And so on, and so on: what it comes down to is that the feature is a mixed bag. There is skill and intelligence here, and a great deal to like, including satisfying horror flavors; these advantages regrettably butt up against notions in the writing that are too pronounced and tactless as they present, draining power from the whole in terms of both the impact of the more dramatic beats, and the thrills of the violence and nefariousness. 'Blood hunters' bears definite value, but it is imbalanced; all the right ingredients are here, but in inappropriate proportions to give the resulting concoction its best form. I do ultimately like it, for I see what it does well; would that it were a tad more careful and mindful in how it was put together.

When all is said and done it's hard to especially recommend this only in light of how it fumbles its constituent ideas, coming across in turn in the overall tone; the flaws are just too significant. I do commend all for the work they put into it, however, and I'm glad I took the time to watch. I wish nothing but the best for all who participated, and I hope they find more success in the future; would that 'Blood hunters' had gotten the mixture right so that this itself could have more markedly been that success.

a must see

A surpringly good horror movie, it's a bit sad to see others hate on it so much. The creature designs could have been executed better but the other effects are actually really affective.
