Never below the surface Warning: Spoilers
"I Am Syd Stone" is a Canadian English-language short film from 2014. It runs for slightly over 10 minutes (including credits) and was written and directed by Denis Theriault, one of his more known works. This also has to do that this little movie managed to make it on the 12th (already) edition of Boys on Film and as I have seen many films from this long-running series I must say that it is not worse than most of the other stuff on there. This mostly has to do though with many really really bad films being considered for this series, not with this one here being anything good. Depth is basically non-existent, even if you could feel how the actors and the script were really trying to turn this into a convincing character study, but it isn't working out I believe. this is the story of a successful Hollywood actor who returns to meet his former sweetheart (both male). But boundaries between their world may be in the way of a happy ending as well as the time that has passed between their last meeting. And besides that, as this film is from 2014 and we have many openly gay actors nowadays, you could ask how accurate this film is, even if there are certainly still many in the closet because they don't want to lose many of their female fans. Anyway, would they risk their careers then by what he has done. God only knows. In any case, this was a pretty mediocre film at best and I don#t recommend checking it out. It feels somewhat empty and I give it a thumbs-down.

Warning: Spoilers
I have to admit though, I was so annoyed that both Syd and Brent didn't end up being together. However in the end, Syd like a boss, just walked away from seeing him with another guy and just hidden along the paparazzi cameras piercing at him. Boy he is one brave hunk with such a sweet revenge up his side lol! Seriously Gharrett Patrick Paon among the other actors were brillant at their roles and like this is such an underrated gay short that just deserves credit!

I give this 8/10, I would definitely recommend people to watch this!
