"I don't understand how he's been released"

Warning: Spoilers
Despite the continually endearing Josh and Maddy, the Barrett side of the storyline is terrible.Josh going back to school should be a momentous thing but instead it's not so much glossed over as barked out by Alf, who's in nasty old man mode this episode. The conflict over his school uniform just highlights the absurdity of Bianca letting the Mangrove River students wander around in the wrong uniform like they're a private gang. And then there's the wholly unwelcome return of Andy, who continues to show zero remorse for trying to kill two teenagers for trivial reasons yet we're apparently meant to feel sorry for him at the end.

Montgomery is veering towards panto territory but otherwise the conflict between her and Bianca is handled okay, with Bianca struggling to cope with her deputy's obvious sadism and Matt coming across as nicely morally ambiguous, although his actions had better make sense when all this is over.

Jett does a typically poor job of running away, barely making it out of walking distance of his home and ending up in the Walkers' shed. There's some okay stuff between John and Marilyn and it's good to see Nina getting a bit more to do.
