The ferocious bull, the lovable kitten, the enigmatic owl, and now-the goofy elephant! So far, "Chris Marker's Bestiary" has proved to be a fun, swift series of short documentaries, and I am impressed with their simultaneous abilities of simplicity and tonal differences. The vast range of mood and style in the series provides both a fun and sometimes mysterious portrayal of the animal kingdom as well as another stream of experimental documentary greats from brilliant cinemagician Chris Marker. "Slon Tango" is the fourth entry and focuses on an elephant that appears to be dancing along with the tango that Marker humorously scores the short with. The smile and dance of the elephant mixed with Marker's own cinemischief combine to create a brief spectacle, a four minute long animal comedy that is more appealing and delightful than most of Marker's work due to its much more lighthearted and accessible overall nature. It's not a cinematic masterpiece or anything, nowhere near the quality of Marker films like "La Jetee" or "Sans Soleil", but it's still an excellent and extremely short farce bound to make the average viewer crack a smile.
