Age versus Alien
wes-connors23 August 2013
After a 1947 Roswell, New Mexico alien attack, the US has kept a top secret crew of five individuals trained in fighting off another invasion. Because the crew was getting old and the aliens did not return, they were forcibly retired. Seven years later, the aliens are coming back. Big, ugly spaceships hover over Earth's largest cities. These aliens are not shy. A newscaster reveals the alien race is "bent on our destruction!" After seeing the "Breaking News" on television, burly Greg Evigan (as Patrick Conte) is assaulted by a human-like form in a metal-like spacesuit. Fortunately for Mr. Evigan, he has an occasionally bluish glowing object which seems to scare the attacker back into its spaceship...

Evigan decides, "I have to get the team back together." First, he locates seemingly loony John Francis (as George), who frets about an anal probe but often seems willing to drop trou for more action. Next re-recruited are gun-collecting Clarence Smith (as Tweety) and cowboy-type hunter Daniel Hugh Kelly (as David). Smart graying blonde Denise Crosby (as Linda) rounds out the quintet. One of the only sensible things we learn is that 66 years isn't such a long time between visits, considering the number of light-years the extra-terrestrials must be traveling. Apparently, the aliens have watched the "Star Wars" film series with much admiration. "Invasion Roswell" otherwise makes only a little sense.

** Invasion Roswell (8/8/13) David Flores ~ Greg Evigan, Denise Crosby, John Francis, David Hugh Kelly

Earth depends on a handful of retired soldiers...
paul_haakonsen25 August 2013
Another SyFy Channel movie to grace the screen, but unfortunately this one doesn't extinguish itself from the rest of the bunch. And it is essentially a very predictable Sci-Fi movie.

The story is about a group of middle aged, retired soldiers saving planet earth from aliens! A unit of extraterrestrial special operatives are sent into retirement, but have to don their uniforms and weapons one last time as aliens return to Earth to invade the planet for some unknown reason.

And as it is with these kind of movies, then you know the ending right from the very beginning. And true enough, the movie does not let down the audience on this account.

"Invasion Roswell" suffered badly from a predictable storyline and bad CGI effects, which essentially was the killer of the enjoyment for the movie, as the acting done by the people on the cast list was actually good enough - but they just had very little to work with.

It should be said that the alien suits were actually looking nice, although it sort of took the entire alien being away from the movie as they wore helmets and we only got to see one alien while it was undergoing an autopsy.

When we are first introduced to the alien weapons, I nearly spilled my drink. The weapons looked so much like those toy guns you can get for the PlayStation 3 Move controllers - into which you put the controller and wield the combined two pieces like an actual "weapon". It was hilarious.

"Invasion Roswell" might actually have something to offer to the audience that enjoy cheesy, campy and generic Sci-Fi movies. This is not a million-dollar Hollywood CGI-fest, so don't get your hopes up. For me, despite its predictability and cheesiness, then "Invasion Roswell" gets a 3 out of 10 rating - there is just something bizarrely entertaining about these campy movies.

Cheap rip off story-wise, uninteresting otherwise
VeraWade25 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The concept for this alien invasion movie didn't seem bad to me at all, and knowing its budget and the fact that it is a TV-movie from the Syfy channel, I didn't expect to be complaining about the cheap looks and feel of this movie. Now, I haven't seen that much of their stuff, but I think I can safely say most of the effects in this movie look terrible, and story-wise there are a lot of, to put it friendly, "connections" with famous alien invasion movie, "Independence Day".

For example, there is a guy who used to be a pilot and who is now a drunk, who tells stories all the time about being assaulted by aliens. Remember him? Then there is the way the alien spaceships hover above large cities or other locations. The spaceships themselves, besides looking terribly fake, look stolen from "Independence Day". Flying into the aliens' central ship to destroy them also was too much of a resemblance.

The world seems very empty in this movie and a lot of the times when there are people around, they certainly don't act like aliens are coming.

Now, spoiler alert, but the aliens also do inexplicable stuff I just have to mention. Why would the aliens, besides going to big cities in the world, go to the protagonist's house, and then blow it up? And how would no one in the world notice? Yes, the guy had this little item they wanted, but still...the whole scene was completely ridiculous.

The cast has little to work with and although not completely bad, hence doesn't deliver any really interesting stuff. A very bland science fiction movie.

Invasion Roswell (2013)

** (out of 4)

Mildly entertaining low-budget film from SyFy. The plot itself is pretty simple. An elite group of alien fighters are forced into retirement because the jerk higher up feels there won't be an alien invasion. A short time after that the aliens do attack. The elderly alien fighters decide to team back up to go after the green men. INVASION ROSWELL isn't going to be mistaken for THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL but if you enjoy this type of low-budget film then this one here offers a few fun things. As you'd expect, the special effects are pretty bad from start to finish and in fact a few of the earlier ones seem to have been a tribute to the visual style of an Atari game. The effects are laughable at times but then again you don't really watch these type of films expecting ground-breaking work. The two most familiar names in the cast are going to be Denise Crosby (PET SEMETERY) and Greg Evigan and both of them offer up good performances but so do the rest of the cast members. The performances were certainly a lot better than you'd see in this type of film. The biggest problem with the movie is that there's just not enough fun. The film starts off pretty well as we see the alien attack a man by blowing his head off but this type of effect really isn't seen again. There certainly aren't enough invasion scenes and there's just not much going on here to really draw you into the film. INVASION ROSWELL is slightly entertaining as long as you don't take it too serious but at the same time there's no question that more could have been done with it.

It's time you won't get back

This is classic SyFy fare. Bad acting, plot holes galore and ripping off bigger budget mainstream movies - c'mon, admit it. You couldn't miss the similarities between this film and Independence Day they were so obvious.

The only two cast names I recognised were Denise Crosby and Greg Evigan (had to look him up to confirm he was in B.J. & The Bear) and they did a competent job in their roles. It would be nice to say the same for everyone else who signed up to ride this awful thing.

If you've got about 90 minutes to kill and you're not fussed about being intelligently entertained, this is the movie for you. It isn't Sharknado, but you might find yourself yelling at your television hoping that the stupid goes away at some stage.

One dull alien invasion
TheLittleSongbird30 September 2013
Not completely terrible. The best aspect is the acting which is reasonably good, especially from Greg Evigan and Denise Crosby. Their general professionalism however deserved a much better movie. The photography, editing and the way it's shot is hardly incompetent though their quality's not particularly note-worthy. The special effects is a good starting point to why Invasion Roswell is not a good movie, at best they're laughable and unfinished-looking. And let's not get started on the alien weapons, I do agree that they look like children's toys. The story is not involving at all, that it's so predictable that you can smell the ending a mile away is one thing but there's also very little fun, suspenseful or thrilling on display, there are moments but they are too far and between. The dialogue is painfully under-written and trite, the direction is completely flat and the characters are little more than ciphers that don't do much of a good job moving the story forward. The aliens are not much of a threat, very lacking in personality and presence. Overall, not terrible or a disaster but dull and pretty poor, the acting is pretty much the only good thing about it. 3/10 Bethany Cox

When I grow up I want to.be Imdependence Day
dillondanks28 January 2023
Looks like a school project, hhe whole going is xhocking, the dialogue, thee acting, the special effects and the guns they use, which are supposedly better than normal weapons look like they were designed and made by Matel.

The story is just a straight rip.off from Independence Day, the alien weapons are exactly the same and a roswell toy aircraft is supposedly from the same species only years ago. God that is so original. Just to give you an idea of the differences between ID and this in ID thevdoace ships sre city size and blow up the white House and the Empire state, here they're house size a blow up a wooden house.

How this didn't get clobbered for copywrite ill never know.

Low budget, lower acting, rock bottom script
ritchiealan14 January 2014
I guess we expect SciFi (Sorry – I CANNOT call it "SyFy") channel's offerings to be low budget, which means unimpressive SFX/CGI, and this is no exception. They have to work to a budget, so we have to accept that the effects won't look like Star Wars or Jurassic Park. However, what I can't forgive is acting that ranges from indifferent (Greg Evigan and Denise Crosby) to low grade prep school drama group amateur (pretty much the rest of the cast). Worse, the script was a joke. I think it was the late great Sam Goldwyn who once said of a script he was presented with "I could eat alphabetti spaghetti and puke a better script than this". Had he said this of this script, he would have been being kind to them. That just about sums up this film!

Sequel to or same as Independence Day ?
pfbrown-1277030 January 2020
Fair movie, lots of action. Could not understand how they got a away with so many of the Independence Day plots. Space Ship found in Roswell, flies a bomb inside mother ship, rag-tag bunch of over-the-hill cowboys and so on. I enjoyed it

No, just no.
hussey8 April 2020
Everyone that was in this movie owes everyone else an apology for this mess. The acting is so, so bad. CGI effects look like a high school (a small one) worked on this fine project. There is a weak attempt to steal the basic story-line from Independence Day, but they even ruined that. To be fair, maybe it got better later, since I pulled the plug at 31:29 in. I'm going to go wipe my TV down now in case it was infected with this horrible 'movie'.

The end has a touch of the first Starwars
turnbull5015 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed this film. No big names acting was OK special effects OK for 2013. Lots of action there is no age bar as it was a TV movie. The hero's in the story are a bit like the A Team and even have a guy like Murdock who can fly anything but is a total nutter. Great fun to watch him. Ignore the terrible reviews there all by people who think anything less than Marvel must be rubbish. If you liked the A Team you will love this. At the beginning our hero's are all been retired but seven years later they get back together and convince the government they can save the world and they do. If you miss this film your missing a great film. Your kids will enjoy it. As a bonus we get Denise Crosby doing her stuff and looking good doing it. They of course win at the end which is expected.

Does it look familiar?
neilor-121 June 2020
Wow! This is "Independence day" made by an amateur theater troupe! Everything is here - the invading cruisers with the deadly beam, the energetic shield and the alien fighter-plane going to the mother-ship with a bomb. Even the long hair scientist is here! The characters have become old, and the effects seem cheaper (age and inflation don't miss) but you get your portion of laugh. This film is so bad that it is great entertainment. you wouldn't feel bored at all! The only problem is to find it. I don't get it - you can find all master-peaces easy but can't find failures like this - they are rare and scarce.
