Sweet little TV show, didn't take itself too seriously, and is perfectly harmless.

This episode was as good and structured as all of the rest of the series. If you want something serious and brutal, this isn't for you.

Gangsters, lifelong fueds and Cartier cufflinks all come into play, when our fabulous mechanic Gloria finds a body, with a set of fencing Sabers on the scene, at the same time as a passing jogger!

We also learn why Judith and Jeremy never pay for their drinks at the pub. Some hijinks ensues there too, all part of small town living, even if it is in France.

As always Jean is fantastically knowledgeable and helpful, if efforts to assist Caron in his investigation.

Harmless

Looks like some reviewers are taking this show a little too seriously. It is meant to be a little bit of fun, escapism. Not meant to be taken too seriously.

I enjoy the show for what it is. The characters are fun. My favourite by far is Dom. He is so darn sweet and a push over. Especially by Jean who really pushes their friendship at times. Jean is not my favourite character but it is a show that centres around her so....

The older married couple are nit witts, tacky but great entertainment and add a "je ne sais quoi" to the show.

The "thug" in a house dress, John Marsden was entertaining but he was too obvious.

Not the best but certainly not the worst....

Great mystery but some exhausting characters.

This was an original mystery and the secondary plots tied in well but several characters were quite infuriating and even unlikeable, including Jean at times - pushing Dom too far. I feel this was quite a set up for later episodes, but I'm not particularly bothered about these new circumstances because they weren't enjoyable today - so many seemed too foolish / outlandish, not inspiring qualities / people I want to spend time with. However, I'd say this is actually quite realistic, being mistakes / attitudes seen in everyday life, albeit usually without the murder, thankfully. Overall though, I wish these mysteries weren't murder but focused on art thefts etc, - a kind of 21st century Lovejoy - providing a change from the multitude of homicide shows.

Duel

Gloria stumbles across a man with a sword sticking out off his chest. The fencing foil dates back to the 19th century. There is a valuable Cartier cufflink next to the body as well.

The dead man was George Allaire a small time crook. The fencing foil was stolen from a museum.

Jean gets involved and finds out that that cufflink was a copy. It was designed for British gangster called John Marsden who lives in the area.

Both Dom and Jean go to visit Marsden and find out they might have bitten more than they could chew.

I did think after all this time Dom would had known not to mess with Marsden. Even Inspector Caron knows not to deal with him unless necessary.

The mystery was intriguing enough with a nod to a past event. The dual story about the pub having to run by Jeremy and Judith was dull.

It has a lingering note of maybe Caron and Jean might become an item.

you lose braincells every minute

Total total waste of time and brain. This is a remarkably horrible show, even among horrible shows. Stupid situations, ridiculous dialogues. The rich couple has no help and pushing friends who are endlessly nice. Seriously?! And Jean's meddling cannot possibly be believable. What, she knows that gangsters are dangerous, but goes to see the young criminal anyway. Oh, and her explanation to Caron about Cartier is dumb as a hammer. Is he from another planet and not French? Who writes this kind of crap! I am really fascinated by the fact that the actress who plays Jean is actually hired to act at all. I saw her in another show, Cold Call, by chance, and she is equally dreadful. That btw is confirmed by the improbable hairdo in both shows, which existence is impossible to grasp. I'd imagine she should be immediately dismissed for professional incompetence but then the whole show should be dismissed for professional incompetence. The only reasonable character, who is a bit less than a cheep caricature, is Dom. What is this actor doing in this pathetic group with this pathetic script in this pathetic series?
