Attack From Within!
g-bodyl25 January 2015
This is the second episode of the fourth season of the Walking Dead. It was a very high-paced, action-packed episode as we learn about another deadly killer which decides to strike our heroes. Everyone has a chance to shine in this episode, as the acting remains strong. The special effects and the gore also remain strong in this episode.

In this episode, "Infected," Rick must leave behind his quiet life when trouble strikes within the prison. A deadly strain of a flu virus has struck at the survivors thus killing some and turning them into walkers. People who may have been exposed are now quarantined. Carol continues to teach the children how to fight and be strong. Meanwhile, somebody has been feeding the walkers.

Overall, this is a magnificent episode that highlights the issue of a deadly pathogen within confined spaces and many people. This episode is the latest of excellent Walking Dead episodes and I believe this season will be an excellent ride. I rate this episode 9/10.

Very good episode outdoes the previous one
Josh_The_Third21 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This episode has been a great watch. The strength of this show has always been its patient directing\storytelling and I'm just excited to see the writers go back to that with this 4th season. Speaking of patience, while the writers clearly want to develop multiple characters simultaneously, the episode could have been even better if some scenes where left out in order to give others more on-screen time! Don't you agree?

For example - carol's little plot line was OK but did not feel totally needed, unlike the scenes with rick\tyreese which I found to be spot-on, amazing stuff.

The way the show introduces Tyreese is very, very well done and to the point, and very classic in the tragic sense. You can right away tell that the guy has a very idealistic\soulful world-view, and can only imagine the challenges he will soon be faced with. This makes him unique among the group and I can see his character developing into a very important and resourceful one, like Rick.

Regarding Rick - the scene with him sacrificing the pigs was more than amazing - it felt powerful, surreal, and symbolic. I wasn't sure this character could develop any further, but seems like the actor and writers have another idea in mind. And they execute that really really well on this episode !

Doomed in Prison
claudio_carvalho22 October 2013
Patrick attacks survivors and soon the D cell block is crowded of walkers. Hershel, Carol, Daryl, Glenn and Sacha conclude that Patrick died of flu and they decide to isolate who has flu and who had contact with the walkers to protect the others. Tyreese's girlfriend Karen has symptoms of flu and stays in quarantine. Rick and Darryl discover that the pigs are infected and the walkers are being fed with live rats by someone. When a group of walkers is pushing the fence down, Rick has an idea to protect the prison and asks Darryl to drive the truck. They succeed in their intent and Rick recovers his self-confidence and esteem.

The dramatic "Infected" is a good episode of The Walking Dead. The two girls with Carol may be the beginning of the development of new characters since their father was a complete stranger. The sequence with Rick feeding the walkers with the infected pigs is impressive and gives the sensation that it is for real. Carol teaching the kids to defend themselves may be important in the future. Rick will probably assume his leadership again.

Just as a curiosity to the oversea viewers, In Brazil, "The Walking Dead" is shown in Fox-HD on Tuesdays. However, this cable channel does not show any respect to their viewers, and the episode does not end in the scheduled time. Therefore, if you program to see it later, you will lose part of the episode. The main reason is because they present, for example, a complete video clip of Glee in the intermission of The Walking Dead. The moronic programmer of this channel has the brain of a walker, breaking the tension of the episode with the gay Glee. Shame on you, Fox do Brasil ! My vote is eight.

Title (Brazil): "Infected"

Note: On 13 April 2016, I saw this show again.

The enemy is not zombies anymore, nor the Governor... no, the enemy is a virus.
TheDonaldofDoom20 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
After a good but not-very-eventful first episode, Infected starts with a bang. It was a great surprise for the main climax to take place in the beginning of the episode rather than the end, which made it all the more exciting. And then we find out that the group has a new enemy now, a virus. I'm not sure about how far this virus storyline can go but I'll reserve judgement till when I've seen more of it.

The walker outbreak leads to some emotional scenes. Watching the two kids try to stay brave after their father has been bitten is heartbreaking, and the scene in which Michonne, a usually reserved and boring character, tear up holding the baby close is touching.

The walker outbreak at the start isn't the only major sequence, though, as the walkers are collecting due to someone luring them with rats and they're breaking down the razor-wire fence. This leads to a brilliant scene where Rick slaughters pigs to lure the walkers away. It's brilliant done. But the most surprising moment was right at the end, Karen's burnt body. Her relationship with Tyreese added some hope to what is a very grim TV series, so to see her go is devastating.

So many powerful scenes in this one makes Infected an excellent episode, and it'll be interesting to see where the virus storyline goes.

Quite interesting and sad.
XueHuaBingYu9 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 2 is a kind of sad episode, but at the same time, it's quite a mystery. There are two interesting things that caught me. One is who the hell has been feeding rats to those zombies? And who burned those two people? Those are quite a mystery. They always make it mysterious. I really want to know the answers.

It's so sad to see a lot of people died, especially those two little girls' father. I really wanted him to survive for his daughters' sake. But he didn't. That's really very bad. And I wonder what the connection between Mich and babies is. It looks like she lost one.

All in all, this episode is quite a mystery because of those two facts that I've stated in above. I think I'd have to keep watching to find the answers. I hope they will reveal that soon. The walking dead TV show really is very interesting to watch. I totally love it.

Another good episode
pjgs20028 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
So far, the fourth season of the Walking Dead has been very good. The directing in this episode was very good; multiple times during my viewing I noticed how great this episode looked. I wonder why Michonne hates hearing babies cry? She's really becoming a great character. Rick seems to be assuming a role of leadership again, and Carl gets his gun back. I hope the characters don't change too much, but happy times never last long in the Walking Dead. I really enjoy seeing all the characters joking around and smiling at the beginning of the episode; Infected gave us a minute or two of more lighthearted moments, but it jumped straight to the action.

Overall, another good episode.

Graphic kills!
and_mikkelsen20 January 2024
Yeah the first thing I thought of was how bloody and gorry this episode was as The Walking Dead season four has no interest in shyimg away from blood and guts.. and I am on board!

This episode shows us that you can never truely feel safe! The first part of the episode was dark and disturbing cause there is just no mercy in this world!

Having an aggressive flu being the new threat is interesting amd keeps you engaged cause now.. the enemy is invicible! Honestly i was scared at times!

The relationship Carol forms with the two girls, Lizzie and Mika, could create some interesting dynamics later on, especially with Lizzies behavior!

Some other memorable moments of character like Michonne and Judith.. she says nothing but you know whats going on in her head!

Good Form Continues In Season Four
slightlymad221 February 2015
Season four of AMC's "The Walking Dead" continues its impressive opening to the season

Plot In A Paragraph: After Patrick fell sick and died, at the end of the last episode, he begins attacking others inside the prison. Before long, the cell block is over run with walkers. The residents have been exposed to a bad bout of the flu and as they die, they turn into walkers. They begin by isolating those with flu symptoms. Carol (Melissa McBride) continues in her quest to teach the children they have to be strong. Meanwhile Someone is feeding live rats to the walkers and they nearly push in the outer fence and two people are found burned to death.

This was another solid episode, I liked the scene with Carol (Melissa McBride) the two girls and their Dad, there was also a hint at Michonne's (Danai Gurira) past life, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) is starting to realise, their short period of peace and he will be needing his trusty gun on a regular occasion again.

" Clumpers" Needn't be a Problem!
Helismoke15 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is a riveting episode, as most are, as you can never really anticipate what's going to happen. Any real life Corrections Officer in a prison will tell you that you can never let your guard down. Just when you think things are calm, the proverbial krap hits the fan! Every other episode has a mystery guest, this one has a feeder of Rats. If you watch previous episodes, you know that the majority of this series is in farm country. You see numerous Combines, tractors, spreaders, farm implements, etc. With that in mind this episode concentrates on an early problem of " Clumpers". There is a natural pond near to the prison. Any right thinking farm boy would dig a ditch from the main road to the pond, realizing of course there would be fighting " Walkers" while doing so. Just another day! Then breach the wall from the ditch to the pond and " Voila" you have a moat! Just like castles in times of yore! If it was done 600 years ago by workers with few tools, why not today? Any of you see " Walkers" who could swim? I didn't!

Warning: Spoilers
Another bad episode. Better than the first one but still bad. The opening scene of the rats being fed to the walkers was kind of cool. Tyreese's singing is terrible. What is Karen doing, she hears some rattling and goes investigating in the dark with nothing but a flashlight. How does she fall asleep that fast when zombified Patrick enters the cell block. That scene of zombified Patrick eating Greg was pretty cool and then it cuts off into the intro. The group killing the walkers in the prison was cool. Other than that the episode was really bad. I hate this stupid flu plot. Unfortunately, Lizzie doesn't look at the flowers for the last time until 4x14. "He's special and now hes dead". Lizzie, I think you're special. Aww, the poor pigs. Unknown if those specific ones were infected. Coral, if you think Carol should be teaching the kids how to defend themselves, don't tell the one man who can stop her. God, i thought you weren't annoying anymore. The ending scene of Karen and David being burnt was really interesting. If I wasn't bored out of my mind on my first watch, I would've realized that Carol killed them.

Infected
rasultnt200821 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I just hope that they leave the prison soon and i know writers are trying to make it interesting by this new disease and other things but still i'm still waiting for something more exciting.

Walkers attacked the cell blocks, well we've seen scenes like this before. i want something new, more dangerous, i don't want this season to be like final episodes of season 3.

Carol is teaching kids how to use knives, it's not something important or interesting.

but there are new Mysteries and i'm waiting to find out what is really going on. who's feeding the walkers? what happened to those two bodies? who burned them? that's why i give this episode 8/10. the first 2 episode were good but still it has to get better.

Infected!
mm-3923 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Infected is about a disease. A swine Zombie flu, and how the Zombie plague started. Rick woke up after the epidemic happened and the viewer needed to fill in the gaps of what happened when the plague started. Infected is a retro episode which teaches the viewer what happened When the plague hit. When the flu started one person dies and bites several people. The bitten bite several people and the problem snowballs. The other sub-story is a prison fence is almost breached because people were feeding the zombies. The second message is people do not take the zombies seriously and strong leadership is need to battle the plague. Rick's cool, and insightful/foresighted thinking provides the leadership needed to solve problems. A good episode, but not great. The episode is building momentum for the series. Worth watching. Seven out of ten.

Another Great Episode But There Are Still Problems
keelan_ruls21 October 2013
Once again, another step up from the last half of season three with this episode entitled, Infected. Why it's called Infected though? Well you'll have to watch.

Once again, filled with more action than talking and we also get to see a couple of new characters. The hopes that this episode brought to make you tear up is high with one of the scenes, but I won't say any further than that.

Yet, as much as I am really liking season four, there are still some issues with this show. Episode after episode I watch just HOPING that I can relate with at least one character again. I lost that in season three. I mean, there are still characters that absolutely kick-ass (like Daryl and Michone) but I just can't relate to them like, for example, Breaking Bad can do.

There are no "assholes" in this season yet. There isn't anybody that you see would betray the group or anyone that would like to do things their way. I think every good show needs that.

Finally (WARNING: possible spoilers ... just warning you) I think that The Governor's people that Rick took in are just there to be killed. The sole focus is still on the main group (apart from the two new characters we see introduced).

I love The Walking Dead, I loved this episode but still a couple of flaws that I notice which I hope can be resolved throughout the season.

Keelan's rating: 9/10.

Deadly infection
TheLittleSongbird16 August 2018
Had heard nothing but great things about 'The Walking Dead' from friends and IMDb reviewers. It took a while to get round to watching, both from being busy and also not being sure whether it would be my cup of tea. Finally getting round to it a few years ago and slowly working my way through it, having had a very long to watch and review list, 'The Walking Dead' turned out to be very much my cup of tea and as good as the hype made it out to be, have found it extremely addictive.

"30 Days Without an Accident" was a hugely promising start to Season 4 after a not terrible but disappointing Season 3 finale. The season's second episode "Infected" is even better, a return to the tense and gutsy kind of episodes instead of the quieter action-light kind of episode. It is yet again a strong reminder of how Seasons 1-5 of 'The Walking Dead' to me were absolutely brilliant and seeing the show in its full glory days (Season 6 was uneven, Season 7 was a huge disappointment and am still debating whether to watch Season 8). It is as emotional, complex and as tense as one would expect, at the same time it has adrenaline and guts.

It still shocks me at how an intelligent, well-made (so much so that it is easy to mistake it for a film) show about zombies could be made when so many films have tried and failed abysmally to do so.

My only complaint of "Infected" was that Carol's story wasn't quite as compelling as the rest of the episode and didn't add as much as the other story elements. It does have heart though.

Like all the episodes of the show, "Infected" is incredibly well made in the production values, with gritty and audacious production design, photography of almost cinematic quality, effects that look good, have soul and are not overused or abused and pretty frightening make-up. The music is haunting and affecting, having presence but never being too intrusive.

The writing is intelligent and thought-provoking, not as talky as some of the previous episodes, with lots of tension and emotional resonance and shows signs of character complexity and multiple layer storytelling. The more eventful parts are thrilling and terrifying as well as uncompromising.

Appreciated the ever strong and still progressing story, where a lot happens and full of different strands without being confused or over-stuffed, and character building, which the episode has a bigger emphasis on, and that the pace is rarely dull or rushed, with a taut intensity in the more tense parts. The character writing and the character interactions are what is particularly great here, like with Rick and Tyreese.

Everything is nicely paced without rushing through the more important parts, much of it being very taut. The world building is already stunningly immersive and effective. Direction is smart and atmospheric while the show throughout has been strongly acted. Andrew Lincoln is excellent as ever.

All in all, excellent. 9/10 Bethany Cox

Finally a consistent and entertaining episode
ashyoko25 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
After sitting through "Infected" twice i can finally say i actually enjoyed and episode of The Walking Dead, and i actually has been a while since i have metaphorically on the edge of my seat. The episode as a whole doesn't suffer form the casual slow boring dragged out dialogue as previous episodes, i felt like i was back in 2010 watching the pilot with the amount of gore used in a single episode.Like mentioned in previews and interviews the show finally has an actual threat that can both strike at any moment and shock most of the audience, that being the newly introduced "Pig flu" its labeled as just a flu but its passed by pigs so lets just call it pig flu along with the addition of a mysterious character destroying the prison from the inside out by turning the group against each other and literally collapsing the fences. Each character had something to do in this episode, we again got to see Rick's smarts and weaker side, Tyreese's variability, Michone's weak spot and finally a bad ass, antihero like Carol. The attack on cell block D was the icing on the cake of a great episode and hopeful future for the current season.

I almost turned veggie
snoozejonc27 November 2021
The health crisis and zombie problems escalate.

This is a very downbeat episode that portrays some harsh realities in a collection of upsetting moments.

Rick's character has been depicted to have gone through some huge changes in between series 3 and 4, and this is portrayed well by his behaviour and attitude. His quieter pacifist lifestyle is put in the spotlight as events take a number of dramatic turns.

The scenes involving the walkers are some of the best of the series so far, but I won't mention details and spoil. If any episode is likely to make someone consider being a vegetarian it's this one!

There is an an ominous level of threat to the well-being of the community that is quite effective. Most scenes are intriguing and make me want to find out what is going on. Particularly as the character of the Governor, in absence, is a conspicuous presence hanging over everything.

I enjoyed seeing the council session and the new method of leadership portrayed since Rick stepped down from the role. This is also quite interesting as it makes you wonder if it will work in the long term or evolve further into some sort of electoral process. Will something happen that reverts control of the community to another dictatorship? Will there be so much tragedy and death that it devastates the community and leaves the entire social constructions in ruins?

All performances are great as always, especially Andrew Lincoln and Melissa McBride.

It's All Rotting Away

Alright so far so good starting off with the zombie kid having a entire buffet to himself then hits full blast of the walkers infecting the prison. My only gripe on this episode is why didn't anybody hear the zombie kid gurgling ugly sounds in the hallways at night. On the other hand, this season seems to be promising finally no governor problem, no Andrea, and no pointless scenes. It's all about surviving conflicting the problems in the prison. And what makes it worse is that a strange flu infecting everybody far worse then a bite, the prison fences are falling soon to be crawling with zombies, and people are dying more than ever. But also it makes me wonder in who the hell is feeding the zombies! I can't finally wait to see who's the dumb-ass that's doing it. Love it how all things are starting to heat up right away.

"Infected" explores themes of fear and paranoia, as the survivors grapple with the realization that anyone could be infected
fernandoschiavi8 March 2024
The peace at the prison is shattered when a deadly flu-like virus breaks out, turning several members of the group into walkers. The episode is filled with intense and emotional scenes as the survivors struggle to contain the outbreak and prevent it from spreading further. One of the standout moments is the death of Patrick, a young boy who succumbs to the virus and attacks other survivors, highlighting the heartbreaking impact of the outbreak on the group.

The episode also explores themes of fear and paranoia, as the survivors grapple with the realization that anyone could be infected. It shows how people can be forced to do things they never thought they would do in order to survive.

Rewatching makes it worse
ASBKnight25 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Since my girlfriend started watching this and on a occasion I am rewatching with her it's painfully obvious that in the writer's team there is a complete idiot that every once in a while comes with an idea. In this episode they were thinking:how do we cause another issue?

Then the idiot spoke and said :"what if someone dies inside the prison and eats someone and nobody hears it".

Besides this idiot sometimes writing a scene the rest of the show "until Rick leaves " is very good.

I just wish they stopped hiring idiots for diversity sake and focus on quality content. But hey, what else is new.
