A Cinematic Letdown - Mosarrof Karim's Film Fails to Capture Audience Interest
x-98076-4375921 January 2024
So, I just watched the worst movie ever - "Hubba." Mosarrof Karim's film was a total bummer, lacking in production, cinematography, story, colors, locations, language, and dialogue. Seriously, nothing grabbed my attention. The sound mixing was a mess, even messed with my ears at times. No main character, no catchy songs - the film just couldn't connect with the audience. They threw in unnecessary scenes, dragging the movie out for no reason. Mosarrof looked like he got possessed by some cheaper actor's spirit. Even with our actors popping up in HoiChoi and OTT series in India, it did zilch to up Mosarrof's filmmaking game. Instead, it felt like he went back in time, copying the outdated methods of long-forgotten filmmakers, making it feel like a badly written short story. Honestly, I'd rather watch something on YouTube.

Nothing is good except Mosharraf Karim's Acting
paaarvez10 February 2024
The trailer is was just too good. After saw the trailer i thought this movie will be a super blast but after saw the movie i just totally disappointed. Nothing is good in this movie except Mosharraf Karim's acting. Not good storyline, color grading, action. With this amount of story it can be a good drama not a movie. Director Bratya Basu should focus on good story and dialogues. Mosharraf Karim is a good actor he did not deserve this kinds of lames movies. A mix of art with commercial movies
Gangster movies are very rare in Bengali. And those that have been are of very low quality. "Hubba" is completely different from that. One of the milestones in Bengali movies. Brought free air to the world of Bengali movies.

First, let's talk about the background. An attempt has been made to get to the bottom of the problem. And the director has succeeded.

Bratya Bose is basically a drama personality. Very well scripted and directed. He has worked very little in Bengali cinema. "Rasta" is one of them. But everything was overshadowed by "Hubba". Bengali needs more movies like this.

Everyone's acting is very good. Basically the character selection has taken the movie much further. Nothing to say about mosharraf karim's performance. A perfect actor. The more that can be said, the less it seems. Khanjanma actor. Just saying that everyone is good at acting but not everyone can act physically, I don't think they understand.

But several places needed more editing and steam.

A perfect movie. Highly recommended.

Best starting of new year with Hubba.
marjanrahmanrabby20 January 2024
What a movie. It is must watch movie. Mosharraf Karim (who was recently seen in Mobaroknama), has previously worked with Bratya Basu's Dictionary, and the shift in his character here is remarkable. He seamlessly fits into the role of Hubba Bimal and owns it. It's a treat to watch him, as he executes one heinous crime after another, or watches Sarkar in an empty hall he has booked. On the opposite end is Divakar Sen, a tough cop who is called in to find and arrest the elusive Hubba Bimal. Indraneil Sengupta as Divakar is a great foil to Bimal, the contrast and tension between the two is really good to watch on screen, not just in the way they look, but also through their conversations. As Bapi, Loknath Dey plays a crucial role in balancing the madness and terror that Bimal often brings to the table.

**Hubba: Life of a Gangster of Hooghly
fahimbingo-6502219 January 2024
**Director:** Bratya Basu **Cast:** Mosharraf Karim, Rupa Bhattacharjee, Arindam Chatterjee, Indranil Sengupta **My rating:** 8/10

Hubba, directed by Bratya Basu and starring Bangladeshi actor Mosharraf Karim, is a crime drama based on the life of Hubba Shyamal, a notorious gangster from Hooghly.

The film begins in 1975 Hooghly, a town that was once a hotbed of crime. Hubba Bimal is a small-time thug who slowly but surely rises to power and becomes a feared gangster. He is responsible for the deaths of many people.

The film spans Hubba Bimal's entire life. We see his childhood, his rise to gangsterdom, his time at the top of his power, and ultimately his downfall.

The film's characters are all well-developed. Mosharraf Karim gives an outstanding performance as Hubba Bimal. He brings the character to life in a realistic and believable way. Rupa Bhattacharjee, Arindam Chatterjee, and Indranil Sengupta are all also excellent in their roles.

The film's story is good, but it may be a bit slow for viewers who are used to commercial films. The film is quite slow-paced, and the second half in particular can be quite slow-moving. Some viewers may even walk out before the film is over.

The acting is all top-notch, but Mosharraf Karim's performance is the standout. He brings the character to life in a way that is both realistic and believable. His performance is so good that it feels like he is actually Hubba Bimal.

Overall, Hubba is a well-made film. However, it is not a commercial film. So, if you are a fan of slow-paced, character-driven films, then this is a good option for you.

**Positives:**

* Excellent acting, especially by Mosharraf Karim * Well-developed characters * Interesting story

**Negatives:**

* Slow pacing * May not be to the taste of viewers who prefer commercial films.

No Story, Just drugs, sex, alcohol and some cheap thrills
minatobarrigun20 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Overview: Musharraf Karim acted really well in this film, pretty much the only reason for watching this.

The scene transitions are haphazard, fails to build a backstory. The current storyline has no real story.

A biographical film based on the life of notorious gangster Hubba Shyamal Das, promises a gritty exploration of the underbelly of Hooghly. However, the film ultimately falls short, failing to deliver a cohesive narrative amidst a barrage of drugs, sex, and violence. While Mosharraf Karim delivers a powerhouse performance as the titular character, the film struggles to build a compelling story around him, leaving viewers with a series of cheap thrills rather than a lasting impact.

The most glaring weakness of Hubba lies in its narrative structure. The tagline, "No Story, Just..." on the poster feels almost prophetic. The film hopscotches through various events in Hubba's life, offering glimpses into his rise to power, violent encounters, and personal struggles. However, these scenes lack a sense of connection, failing to establish a clear cause-and-effect relationship or a chronological flow. The audience is left scrambling to piece together the timeline and motivations behind Hubba's actions. This lack of a coherent narrative arc makes it difficult to invest in Hubba's journey, leaving the film feeling disjointed and unsatisfying.

Furthermore, the film's reliance on violence, sex, and drug use as its primary tools for engagement feels cheap and exploitative. While some level of violence is perhaps inevitable in a gangster film, Hubba often depicts these acts in a gratuitous manner, sacrificing emotional depth for fleeting shock value. Similarly, the scenes involving sex and drugs feel more like unnecessary detours than organic elements within the narrative.

Despite these shortcomings, Hubba shines a light on Mosharraf Karim's exceptional acting prowess. Karim embodies Hubba with an unsettling intensity. He captures the character's ruthlessness, paranoia, and occasional flashes of vulnerability with remarkable nuance. His portrayal is the film's saving grace, offering a glimpse into the complexities of a man consumed by power and violence.

The supporting cast delivers competent performances, with Indraneil Sengupta as the police officer hot on Hubba's trail offering a decent counterpoint. However, their roles are largely overshadowed by Karim's dominant presence.

Technically, Hubba is a decent effort. The cinematography is appropriately gritty, capturing the dark and seedy world Hubba inhabits. The score, while not particularly memorable, complements the film's atmosphere.

In conclusion, Hubba is a film with immense potential that ultimately squanders its subject matter. The lack of a strong narrative and reliance on cheap thrills leave the viewer wanting more. However, Mosharraf Karim's captivating performance elevates the film, making it a watchable, albeit flawed, exploration of a dark chapter in Bengali history. If you're looking for a character study anchored by a powerful performance, Hubba might be worth a watch. However, if you crave a well-structured narrative with depth and emotional resonance, you might be better off looking elsewhere.

Expected much more
coolstg10 February 2024
The direction is biggest letdown. Expected much more from a movie starring Mosharraf Karim, he just didn't seem himself. A good direction can bring out the best from an actor by his skills, which is missing in this project. The other actors also didn't perform well, take Indraneil for an example. There was no emotion on the dialogues. Poor cinematography as well, lacked quality in details. Most of the conversations didn't seem normal, specially between the ones between Indranil and his wife or brother. Directors shouldn't compromise if the project is made keeping OTTs on mind. Bratya Basu did make better movies earlier for sure.

In short, I just wasted a weekend afternoon on it.
