Sums up the series
btgloki24 January 2024
This episode is very representative of themes we're seeing in the production of this show. It opens with an instance from the books; rushing the plot of the story and leaving the viewer with a feeling of being shorted. Luckily; it properly motions into the episodes A plot and gives an immediate understanding to the viewer on why they made that choice. Overall a very good episode; maintaining a strong balance between focusing on the story as it is happening and creating backstory and development for the characters. While certain things are being cut down to save time; the reward for the main plot is plentiful.

Finding the bolt seemed a little anti-climactic
sleepyari29 January 2024
I'm still really hopeful for the series but watching it one by one as opposed to binging it is a good change but it's also a lot more difficult to keep the audience engaged. While I appreciate the world building and how the Underworld looks, especially tartarus and the Field of Ashpodel, I find the conclusion of the episode about how Poseidon will only meet Percy when he knows who he is feels a little bit contradictory to how Percy can fully know himself without knowing his father - but of course, the overall message of knowing yourself despite these things you can't control.

I'm a litte bit dissapointed at how they introduce gods. I'm hoping theres more action and more dynamic personalities or wrting from these gods but so far Ares is the only one that comes alive to me. I'm hoping the last few episodes turn out better.

Meh episode

Warning: Spoilers
TBH there were things I liked and there were also things that I absolutely hate. First the underworld was super awesome and Cerberus scene also, then the flashbacks were also very emotional and cool. The things I hate are Crusty scene, Hades's behaviour (HE SHOULD BE GRUDGY) lastly NO RUSH AT ALL. Like they missed the deadline and THERES NO RUSH LIKE THEY HAVE 5 DAYS TILL THE DEADLINE. And why the hell they know about everything?????. It reduces the tension and fun. The Knowing thing was fun till Echidna scene. And Hades is like "Yo wassup get some things and get me the helm and yeah take ur mum alr, now give me the bolt to pprotect you all". Bruh why he is not serious and scary, I am completely fine with the height but WHY HE IS COOLER AND CHILL THAN EVEN ARES.

Almost at the end now😢
rheapathak28 January 2024
I have to start by putting it out there-the flashbacks in this episode were sooooo good!!! And little Percy is just so adorable and accurate! They've tied these flashbacks so well into the main story flow, and it adds a little colour and depth to Percy's background and his hard life-which doesn't happen in the books but I find as excellent additions.

I really loved the scene where Grover's getting pulled into Tartarus-it felt really lifelike and well thought out. Percy finding the bolt in his bag was an unexpected plot twist, but it also tied in with the story really well, and made sense in the scene where he's negotiating with Hades.

And last but DEFINETELY not least the Poseidon, Sally conversation at the end of the episode<3 oh my gosh it was so insane. It added the kind of heartbreak that Sally went through while Percy was growing up, which really showed how strong and how much of a total queen she is. And we get a glimpse into the fact that Poseidons always watched over Percy and has always wanted to be there for him. And the episode ending with "When he's ready?" Chillllllsss This episode was stunning;)))))))))))) Can't wait for the last one, even though I'm gonna be devestated once it's done.

What is wrong with the kids knowing?
pauli_gomez27 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I've read other comments where people complain about the kids knowing the dangers and not falling into traps. To be honest, I do not understand the problem. I am more or less thinking the opposite. I did not read the books, but in the series it is explicitly said that Chiron, Sally and Grover (via games) taught Percy about Greek mythology. Also, Annabeth is clever, she is Athena's daughter. And Grover has a family who taught him things. So why would they be clueless? I am angrier when Percy does not know things, like when he seems clueless about Hades offering him pomegranate juice, or a couple of episodes ago when he did not understand why it was bad to see Atropos cutting a thread. Again. I did not read the books but in the show it makes sense that they have information.

I enjoyed the episode. I liked Fluffy (I mean, Cerberus) and I think the flashbacks were quite interesting.

Just Mediocre
dantucher24 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I will get straight to the point, this episode was a big disappointment. I would grade it a 6/10 and here's why.

Pros

-I loved the design of Tartarus that was fantastic, props to the artists who designed and brought it to life!

-The Cerberus was design was fantastic as well.

-I enjoyed the new material with Sally, and Toby Stephens has a great voice for Poseidon.

Cons

-Once again, the heroes know the dangers before they encounter them. First Medusa, then the Lotus Hotel and Casino, and now Crusty's. The whole point of the first book was that the trio were inexperienced and that they made mistakes. That's what made the books so fun. Yet in this series, the trio know about every danger beforehand. This is just bad writing! It ruins any kind of suspense or intensity.

-Jay Duplass is one of the few miscasts for the adult cast in this show. His Hades was way to laid back to be a god who has been neglected for eternity. The Hades that was described in the book was bitter, cold, and angry at the Gods and Percy for their mistreatment of him. Hades should have been played by Walton Goggins who would have nailed not only the cold and bitter side of the character but also the sympathetic side of Hades which can be seen in the later Percy Jackson books.

-I do not understand the decision to take Annabeth out of the scenes with Hades. It is a big deviation from the source material that just makes this show feel less and less like the first book. Annabeth is a very important character, why take her out of one of the most intense and heartbreaking scenes in the first book?

-The Underworld stuff is just far better in the book. Where are the skeleton warriors? Where is the danger? This Underworld just felt so empty, bland, and boring.

Overall, I was really disappointed with this episode. Considering how much Rick Riordan despised the Percy Jackson movies, I would have expected him to be true to the source material. I am not sure that this series has gotten even 70% of the book correct. As a huge Percy Jackson fan, I really hope this show improves, but so far this series has fallen quite short of being the great adaptation its passionate fanbase deserves.

The show needs to do better with tension and suspense
munrogmclaren24 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Like the title says. The show needs to do better with the tension and suspense. This is there third trap that the trio have figured out. It just ruins the experience if the characters know everything. There is also no urgency with the deadline passing. Like at all. There wasn't even any leasing up to the deadline passing. It's just falling flat. I'm still really enjoying the series, but Season 2 needs to do better. More showing less telling, less exposition, more tension and suspense, and more action scenes. Don't dumb things down and skimp out on certain "gory" aspect. For example the Medusa scene. We didn't see the head cut off. Kida can take a decapitated head. And Procrustes (a wasted scene honestly). We should've seen Percy wit and intelligence play and see him kill Procrustes. If you can't show Percy killing Procrustes, how the hell are you going to show him killing props later on? You can't keep it at this PG level. It doesn't work. Kids can take it. Rick said he's open to suggestions on how to do better in Season 2, well this is it. Also Percy figuring out Kronos is behind everything this early on?? That's a HUGE change. Anyways, the show is still entertaining, but there are glaring issues, that die hard fans aren't really seeing because they're just so happy for a Percy Jackson adaption that is much closer to the source material. I hope once the rose tinted glasses have been taken off, fans will see the issues that many others have seen and ask for Season 2 to be better. Because it can be. This is not a bad show by any means, but there are issues that need to be addressed if this is going to be a franchise like Harry Potter.

Anyways, that's my sorta review about Episode 7, but also about the previous 6 episodes. I hope Episode 8 really isn't like Episode 6 or 7 and goes out with a bang. :)

Disappointing, but not surprising at this point
Fruiz121424 January 2024
I swear they are changing up everything from the books just for the sake of it, because they're definitely not adding anything of substance. Tonally dissonant, bland and casual, this show needs a refresh for next season.

Charon, Procrustes, Hades, the pearls, Asphodel; nothing is the same and every change has no purpose or effort beyond it behind the surface level idea of generating a tiny amount of tension or subtlety, which inexplicably always fails.

Underworld looks good effects wise, but nowhere close to how it's described in the books. It's still baffling how they've fumbled what should've been an easy adaptation.

Zero Tension.
endoftheworlds25 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It's like one of those fanfics where an OC, who is a super fan of the book, is inserted into the body go the main character and knows everything. I couldn't believe my ears when the episode started with, "I know who you are" or something along those lines.

The cast are great, and are doing the best with the work they're given. I've noticed a few awkward trailing off moments for Grover. But it's abrupt and unnatural. The silence is awkward.

The person who realistically should've had regrets from what we've gathered in show so far is Grover, with the whole Thalia situation. Maybe we'll see Annabeth's regret next episode.

The whole 4 pearl thing would've been great for stakes when one went missing. But even if they had the extra pearl, they wouldn't have been able to take Sally, anyway, ruling that 'tension' null and void.

The whole Kronos realisation was also abrupt and not enough lead up. Maybe I would've had context if I'd read the books before watching the show, but I'm left confused and overstimulated by the info dumps so maybe the info was there to follow. It seemed like a leap, though, in the context I had.

Hopefully pacing issues will be sorted next season.
