A most excellent mini series on science.

I often hear my cousin cursing the snow back east. I often hear people complaining about rain. I remember years and years ago driving through the remnants of Hurricane Fred in Washington D.C., and have been out in a lightening storm on the high seas while fishing (don't ask). Thunder, lightening, severe hail, wind storms, we tend not to like them, save for a nice gentle rain, but if you think the weather is bad here on Earth, then you ain't seen nothing!

"Deadliest Space Weather" looks at all the worlds in our solar system and beyond, and lets us know not only what conditions are like there, but what it would be like to have those conditions here on Earth.

Winds so powerful that they would "sand down" the Pyramids of Egypt within a year. Lightening so powerful that a single bold would smash a sports stadium. Heat so hot that it would turn you, me, and every living creature into a column of pure carbon. I mean, all of that sounds kind of abstract and detached from our own reality as we have a hard enough time coping with our own weather, but if you're able, stop and think about the worse wind storm or snow storm you've ever been in. Think about the worst hail or the worst lightening you've ever seen, and multiply that a thousand-fold.

Now, aren't you happy you live here on Earth? For all the bad weather that we have to put up with every now and then, that weather, for the complaining that we do about it, is why we are alive.

The series goes over four or five episodes, each just over twenty minutes long or so, tells us the conditions there, and what those conditions would be like here, and then, in the final episode, we are told some truly astonishing facts about worlds outside our solar system.

Truly, if you're into the study of other worlds, then this is a must see. Highly educational and highly entertaining.

Enjoy.
