Feels like Toei made this season
djacob-8521012 June 2023
Not that we aren't getting some great moments here and there, but man are they dragging this out. The stakes don't feel that high either which doesn't help. Definitely the weakest season so far with the blandest antagonists.

Im left wondering if this is more of a setup season so Tanjiro can get his sword fixed because clearly the ones who're here to shine this time around are the Hashira. That's not a bad thing but I feel there are too many flashbacks between the climactic battle that cheapen the fights. Not to mention the Love Hashiras backstory was really bleh and I feel like they could've done something much more interesting for her like they did the Mist one.

All in all, I hope the second half of this season is much better (I'm assuming we're getting another 12 or so episodes?). Really want it to finish strong!

Best Hashira gets the spotlight 💕

Warning: Spoilers
I wish we could've gotten more but there's only so much that could be done in 20 mins, Mitsuri's breathing style is really cool and the way she's able to defend against all of Zohakuten's abilities is awesome. It's hard to think any Hashira are stronger. Also her protecting the trio is really impressive and awesome to see while she's keeping Zohakuten on lockdown. I hope next episode dedicates a bit to more of Mitsuri fighting. As the season is marketed as Muichiro's AND Mitsuri's but Mitsuri didn't get as much spotlight it seemed.

Also Mitsuri > Muichiro in a fight Fs, there's no way Mui could keep up with her.

Kanroji san is amazing

This is my favourite episode of this season by now, ufotable did a great job of showing how strong is mitsuri (unlike the manga that it didn't showed that until the last moment of the whole show).

Her past was well portrayed, making the audience symphatize with her even if it is the less tragic back story of all the hashiras among with rengoku's back story ( funny because rengoku was mitsuri's master).

But also making her love breathing a visual masterpiece combining dancing and elegance.

We are in finale ride of this and I know that ufotable will elevate the final episode to the next level so a lot of people can be satisfayed as always.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode focuses on Mitsuri Kanroji- The Love Hashira. Unlike the previous episode, she rightfully takes the spotlight in an episode titled on her.

A recap is played showing her amazing moves from episode 9. The way they have adapted Love Breathing, especially the 5th form, is so beautiful and makes Mitsuri so elegant. They perfectly captured her aerodynamic fighting style and with the effects work, it cannot look better than this.

I loved how they adapted Striking Trees and Compressed Sound Waves making the scale of this fight even bigger than the manga. The camera angles to show off different moves used is so unique.

The pacing in this episode is far better than what we have got.

That one scene where the camera rotates around Tanjiro and the burning wood is so amazing and that tells you how amazing the storyboarding this episode was.

As for Mitsuri's backstory, they really knew how to capture Mitsuri's struggle with her insecurities and how being around the people you love can change yourself and that it's important to know your own worth where Mitsuri isn't ready to changer herself for a marriage.

I love love how they extended a panel of Mitsuri and Obanai to a wholesome sequence.

The OSTs for Mitsuri by Yuki Kajiura is phenomenal!

And now if you know what's gonna happen in the next episode, you can understand my excitement for that moment.

Also, learn to form your own opinion and not agree to what Twitter Sakuga experts tell you who form an opinion before the episode releases!😂

Loving the season so far
crebstarpaul-8676516 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Would love to make a Pro's and Con's list but the Pro's would surely take up all the review space. Here are the few cons:

  • Go back to old Japanese, older style music
  • Bring back the more dark atmosphere where you really do not know if someone will live or die
  • The Love Hashira deserved another episode, like Takito
  • When Kanroji did get her katana around the Hatred spawn, she should have at-least cut off the head while the sound wave attack commenced
  • There was a big disconnect between Kanroji helping Sword Smith chief and her arriving to help Tanjrio and the squad. I feel like they could have used some extra scenes to bridge this gap
  • I don't mind the comedy injections but go back to the serious tone that season 1, Mugen Train, and season 2
  • I wish there was some emotional attachment involved with Upper 4 and one of the Hashira's or main characters, such as killing a relative

Again, still 10/10 season for me so far.

This season hasn't been too bad considering how poorly paced/written the source material is. The first episode was an incredible experience (for the first 23 minutes at least) and then we got a series of poorly stretched meh storytelling that goes to show how being repetitive, even as a shonen, ends up costing a lower audience conversion. I feel for people who hopped on the bandwagon after an insanely well produced season 2 to be let down and bored for this season. I hope the finale delivers, at least to the point where it keeps the audience hooked for what's to come next. Season 4 onwards is probably peak shonen and I can't wait to see how great ufotable does!

As for this episode and the last few (except a cheeky ep5 tanjiro level up), it's been an absolute snoozefest.

-_-
