This is a review for the fourteenth episode of the first season of the Night Court Revival. This episode is called When Abby Met Gabby.
First of all, big congrats to the B story in this episode. It is funny, entertaining, and well paced.
Now, as for the rest of the positives in this entry, the standout cast members this time around are John Laroquette, Lacretta, and Kapil Talwalkar. Lacretta as Bailiff Gurgs always works best when the character is more aggressive, as she is here. Kapil Talwalkar as Court Clerk Neil gives a fantastic performance but is once again sadly underused despite the fact that the A story is Neil centric. Other positives here are the maintaining of the sets and the implementation of the good old laugh track.
Too bad that the Abby Neil story here exists solely to (somewhat) resolve an arc and adds nothing worthwhile in terms of story, character, or comedy. A cohesive melding between the two stories is much desired but doesn't happen. I give this one a 6/10. 5 stars for the B plot and 1 for everything else, for anything involving the Abby Neil story (other than Neil) is certifiably atrocious. I take that back, Olivia is showing slight traces of promise.
