Blue Bloods has walked on autopilot for a while with plot lines oriented with a favorite few characters and outcomes that are fairly predictable at the get go. This episode doesn't do too much to sway in a new direction, however the script writing was noticeably good for a blue bloods episode.
There were moments where Jamie or Frank would go back and with lines that seemed to roll off like poetry through carefully timed word play that interact an a way more artful way than I'm used to in an episode of a cop show, especially this one.
The characters all did predictable things, and there wasn't much development with an overarching season plot line (and there doesn't seem to be one other than Erin's push for DA). While this is fairly regular for a cop show looking to squeeze out as many seasons as possible while they're still relevant, I expect more from a show that lends itself to its wide ranging overall hook. I do however appreciate episodes that work to emphasize that attitudes of the characters and give everyone a taste of where they stand and who they are. This episode does do that.
