Do You Like Irish Tenors?
boblipton23 April 2021
True enough, we are assured that Joseph Regan is an Irish-American tenor, but while it may make a difference to experts, it doesn't to me. He has a good voice, I guess -- the sound is a little off here in this very early MGM sound film. The two songs he sings, "Mary Ann" and "Beloved" are very sentimental.... in fact they're shmaltzy.

Not much is known about Regan except that he died three years later.

Meh....you could do better

Joseph Regan might have had a very nice voice. But it's sure hard to tell in this MGM short. Part if it is that at times the music dominates his singing and part of it is because the singing is so very tinny. It's obvious that the early sound equipment left a bit to be desired and Regan's two songs put me to sleep and if he'd had more charisma and charm it would have helped. Instead, he just stands there, stick-like, and sings a couple songs in which the musicians dominated and Regan comes off like a nice enough act...but not one you'd expect any studio to sign to a contract.
