Solid seasonal episode.

A cold case involving the disappearance of a young boy is re-examined, a case a young Selwyn was unable to solve.

First of all, what was with those ghastly new opening credits and remixed theme tune, I hope both are ditched ahead of the new series.

Let's be honest, it's not Christmas without a good murder mystery, and with no Agatha Christie mystery once again, it fell to Death in Paradise to fit the bill.

So it may not have offered up the surprises that we had last year, but it was still an enjoyable watch. A cold case, interesting thar for Christmas they went for a slightly more heavy story, no amiable holiday murder here, this is a case dating back decades.

Beautifully presented, you could see a lot of time was spent in production, the visuals were great.

A love interest, we all know what that means, is Neville now on borrowed time, the love interest is like a death knell.

Great to see Siobhan McSweeney, I just wish that she had gotten more screen time, she wasn't in it enough.

Les Dennis, I like the guy so much, i bet he had a riot in makeup.

In the context of what we had over the festive period, this was pretty good, 7/10.

It is back to Saint Marie for another Christmas special.

The murder of podcaster Jennifer Langan allows Commissioner Selwyn Patterson to revisit an unsolved missing person case from 1977.

A boy called Linus had gone missing and Selwyn had made a promise to his twin brother Marvin that he would find him. Alas nothing more came of the missing boy.

Now Jennifer Langan claimed to have found new information. Psychic Danny Sheridan (Les Dennis) also claims that Linus might still be alive. While Marvin thinks that his twin brothers ghost is haunting him.

DI Neville Parker has his work cut out as his mother also plans to visit the island for Christmas.

As this was a feature length episode it was a bi flabby as some fat needed to be trimmed off the story. However it was suitably complex enough that brought closure both for Marvin and the Commissioner.

Les Dennis looked suitably grotesque as the fake psychic.

Warning: Spoilers
The opening scenes of the Death in Paradise Christmas Special was 2022 was quite intriguing for sure, and it kind of kept me on the edge of my seat till the very end.

Riotafari Gardner plays Young Marvin, and Jason Yeboa and Young Selwyn, so that sets the scene for a flashback. In fact, if Death in Paradise were to ever have a spin-off series, I suggest it be called Young Selwyn and cover Selwyn's days in the police force and his heady rise to commissioner.

Chelsea Edge plays Sophie Chambers, the potential love interest for Neville, so we'll see what happens in season 12. Will they or won't they?

There was some novelty in the idea of a 90 minute festive special of 'Death in Paradise' last Christmas.

Unfortunately when you go back to a holiday destination too often that novelty is lost a little.

I thought this was a decent if unspectacular outing for the show, and while the murder case was engaging, it did take one twist too many, perhaps due to the extended run time.

Neville was on good form, and I am growing to like the new team they have built around him. I really hope we don't have any personnel changes for a while - the show could do with a bit of stability.

Overall, this was a decent enough special.
