Scandal - Blown Away
Scarecrow-8822 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
There was a statement by Verna, visited by Acting President, Sally, about karma to Olivia, coming to haunt them. In this episode of Scandal, it sure appears that way. Huck appears to be doomed. It looked as if he were the man responsible for the assassination attempt of the President, but this episode shows that he was snookered by Becky, his lover, into entering the room as a mechanized gun (remote controlled from a different location by her) was shooting its intended targets. Becky flaunts her skills as a hired killer and intends for them to run away together as a "Bonnie and Clyde hired hit-man team". Instead she kills the family Huck spent nights watching, dreaming of the idea of having such a life. A phone with a partial print could link Huck to the room with the gun, but a series of events implicate him further. Verna realizes Huck is perhaps the killer matching the shooter's description in the hoodie, and to save her seat on the Supreme Court offers him up, turning her back on Olivia. Olivia realizes Hollis Doyle has worked his magic with Sally over getting Verna removed (or so he propositions this is her opportunity), and he seems comfortable weaving his charms with her to further his financial means, gaining power in the process. Because Olivia and Cy seemingly shanghaied Doyle's chosen politician to take the Senate majority, he was going to try and get his hooks in without their help. Huck's arrest through the use of the Patriot Act certainly seems to indicate that Olivia's crisis management is faltering in its abilities to maintain success. Meanwhile Cy has a PI following James, soon learning of his trip to Defiance, Ohio, and so he attempts to appease him with the "purchase" of a baby, but this doesn't exactly work…James seems satisfied, but when he meets with David Rosen, it is obvious this big story involving scandal tied to the Grant Administration means more than his marriage to Cy. Harrison isn't able to corral Huck, and Olivia's devotion to the White House, going back to her old job, has hindered her work with the crisis team. Grant's funeral arrangements are under way, and this is amazing in how despite his critical condition, so much plot elsewhere often overshadows the President's health situation! Huck's dilemma (Becky getting her comeuppance should be a crowdpleaser in the future if she happens to make a mistake), Olivia being betrayed by Verna, Fitz' potential demise, Abby and Rosen perhaps on the verge of mending their fractured relationship (it appears as if Abby is starting to waver in her contempt for him as she slaps his face, expecting him to fire back, and when he doesn't has sex with him!), James going behind Cy's back in conducting the possible big story regarding how the voting machine won the presidency for the Grant Administration, and Hollis Doyle stirring the pot all collaborate to infiltrate the powerhouse development of the President's potential death as he fights for his life in the hospital. The show just keeps ratcheting up one wowser cliffhanger after another. Huck's viewing of Becky's handiwork of the obliteration of the family is chilling. Huck's deterioration is a major storyline that seems to have really forced its way to forefront. Sally's confrontation of a sickly Verna in a hospital after receiving chemo, threatening to go public and destroy her image if she doesn't retire from the seat is also quite despicable. Lots of backstabbing and posturing going on in this episode. How will it all result? I think the flaw in the Huck/Becky storyline is that he could so easily be a foil for her and be duped into his predicament.
