Episode 305

Warning: Spoilers
Another decent episode of Emily in Paris, but still so far we are not getting much in the form of breakout episodes. I also found Emily's behavior to be a little bit ridiculous in this one. Who would not be excited, even a little bit, about being on the cover of a huge magazine? I get that she was trying to do it mostly for Sylvie, but she still should be proud of this accomplishment.

And now we have a love triangle with Mindy too? I just feel like all of the booking of this show is getting a little too cliched and formulaic. Ever single person does not need to be in a love triangle to find drama.

Pure escapism in these grim times

You have to have a huge suspension of disbelief when watching this show, but that Aussie accent, bleurgh! You can hardly move in the US *or* Europe without tripping over an Aussie actor, yet they got a British person to play an Australian (not a New Zealander as another reviewer said, trust me that is NOT a Kiwi accent either!).

I do find the clothes get more and more outrageous this season, even on a show as OTT as "Emily". Props to all the actors walking in those insane shoes! I also do agree with reviews saying the love "geometry" is getting out of hand, but then that is a trademark of Darren Starr productions.

Fake Australian accent ruins whole episode

Why cast a British actress in the role of an Australian expat and ask her to put on a fake Australian accent?

Apologies Kate Colebrook, but that is the WORST attempt at an Australian accent that I've heard for a very long time. And I just don't understand why the show chose to do this.

The character being Australian wasn't critical to the storyline, although I am not sure what the rules are around work rights for English expats in France, so maybe she couldn't be English. But why not cast an Australian? It's not like Australian actors are a rare breed. It doesn't make any sense and the fake accent was so grating that it distracted me for the rest of the episode.

The terrible Australian accent
melissahmcgrath22 February 2023
There is nothing worse than when a show or movie casts a non-Australian to try and do an Australian accent. And that is what happened in this episode. The Actor was clearly New Zealand. The episode apart from that was fine. It was good to finally have new characters introduced - like the boarding school friend. The rest of my review is just talking for sake of talking now as they require you to have a ridiculous character count of 600, which is 4 times any normal review.

I am not sure what else they want. The scenery was great, the conflict introduced between Emily's boyfriend and an old friend was great.
