As a recovering addict of over 20 years now I understand that everyone has different reasons for succumbing to addiction. That said, I felt like this woman never stood a chance when I heard her story.
Never knowing your father as a young girl, growing up in a home where drug use is normalized, and becoming like a mom to her sister at such a young age are enough of a reason for someone who has predisposition to addiction to fall into that lifestyle. But add the heartbreaking circumstances of her losing her little boy the way she did.
I have a four year old and even after 20+ years of being clean I don't know if I would be able to maintain my sobriety if I lost my son.
I realize this episode is over 10 years old now but I really hope that this woman has been able to keep clean and find some peace and happiness in her life!
