Avoid at all costs!

Warning: Spoilers
Never have I seen such an obvious list of "reviewers" (ie actors, friends of the director, etc) giving such an awful pile of utter garbage so much undeserved praise. Do not believe the 10 star reviews, people, this film has nothing going in its favour - cheap and shoddy "actors" and sets, horrific dialogue, amateur film-making...at it's absolute worst! Those of you with a masochistic/misogynistic streak in you may get off watching an endless stream of women getting tortured, knifed, raped and killed, but as a horror movie fan, I am ashamed of movies like this - there's no wit, context, explanation, just women (and women only) being horrifically murdered. Don't support this kind of film-making, please, as it gives the horror genre a terrible name.I didn't manage to sit through this pile of garbage to the end as I already felt as if my eyes were being punished - it's NOT hostel, not by a million miles. It's just cheap, nasty and cruel.

What the hell did i just watch?
scott_dunning12 February 2014
I've seen some weird movies and I've seen some bad movies, I've even seen some bad weird movies, but I've never seen a movie quite like this. I really don't want to rip in too hard because I don't know why or how this movie came to be made. My guess would be a group of film students decided to make a film using their own camera and editing equipment, with no budget whatsoever, and they got a bunch of friends with no acting ability to play the parts. If that's the case then good on them for giving it ago. If in fact this was a serious offering by a movie studio then I question their life direction and would suggest they should limit their industry involvement to ushering people to their seats at a cinema. The acting was some of the worst i have ever seen. The story was woeful. The special effects were, ummmm, ahhhh, well, I don't think I can adequately describe just how bad they were, you have to see it to believe it.

All in all this movie was terrible. There really is no other word for it.

they should be in hospital
dagdave8 February 2014
no sorry who ever gave this film higher than 1 should be taken to there works HR for tests as this is possibly the worst film ever, OK its very low budget but come on, give it 10 minutes have a giggle then move on, The movie shows gratuitous rape scenes to try to attract an audience outside those just looking for a decent indie horror, since there seems to be little else the film has to offer any other type of audience. My recommendation would be to stay far away from this one. with a budget of $100k, someone should have used that money for acting classes. Horror fans, run far away from this movie. The nudity will be the only thing that draws people into even watching this movie. Don't waste your time on The Hospital 2013.

One the Worst Movies!
kaduncan82025 February 2014
To the reviewer Myra Tripp (lyinguncleanspirit@gmail.com) you must know someone in this movie or are in the movie yourself. This is one awful horror movie; I would not even be able to class it as a B-show. It appears the actors, using the word actor is an improvement in this case, the actors seem to be reading off of q-cards. The acting seems so fake. I have not jumped one time as you claim with suspense or horror. I did almost cry when I saw the budget of $100k, someone should have used that money for acting classes. Horror fans, run far away from this movie. The nudity will be the only thing that draws people into even watching this movie. Don't waste your time on The Hospital 2013.

I wish I could unsee this horrible failure...
davebucklymp7 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
If I could give a review lower than 1-Star, I would. I don't even know where to begin. At first, I was really looking forward to this movie. I had read some reviews, but none really gave the concept of the film. When I first heard about it, I was under the impression this was a "haunted hospital" film.

Wrong.

This film does nothing but glorify and condone rape. There is no real justification for the actions in this film and, having watched it, feel as if part of my soul and humanity was raped in the process.

It's sickening.

I can take horror films, even ones that center on rape. However, there is always a justification or redemption that leaves you able to deal with the horrific themes and elements presented. The Hospital doesn't do that. There is no redemption for this film. Trust me, I waited for it.

It never came.

The Hospital was written and produced by depraved individuals, desperately seeking to live out some rape fantasy\fetish and got funds to make a movie so it could be presented as "art" and be legal. That's basically what this is. It's a rape\fetish film, full of sex, nudity, and horribly satirical themes. The rape is too much and only satisfying for the people who made this train-wreck and waste of budget.

When it boils down to it, I watched this movie and was disgusted more than I have ever been in my life. If that's what the filmmakers wanted, they got it. However, I'm sure they find it funny people were as appalled as I was. It takes a sick mind to want to make a 90 minute film about rape, glorifying it more than a sexual deviant would in their own mind.

The budget: clearly wasted. The script, acting, production values, special fx, and everything else was absolutely terrible. I've seen better from backyard movies made by twelve-year-old kids on YouTube.

All in all, this film was a waste. It was a waste of money, time, and effort. The filmmakers should not be posting "fake" reviews on any site trying to boost popularity. They should be evaluating their skills and abilities and maybe thinking of another career choice.

I would have given this 'Zero' if I could...
fiftydegreesnorth6 February 2014
Terrible scripting...

Terrible acting...

Terrible lighting...

Terrible continuity...

Terrible special effects...

Terrible good reviews from people connected with the movie on IMDb...

If you waste any more time on this movie than discerning it's not worth watching then that's your choice...you will never get the time back.

IMDb - you need to allow zero scores...

...or even minus if possible

I have never seen such an awfully produced 'film' in over 30 years of watching horror movies
mjsreg14 March 2014
Lighting = awful, camera work=awful, sound=awful, editing = awful, sfx = awful, acting = awful, direction = obviously awful, and production = must have a mental health issue to finance this.

According to IMDb the estimated budget was $100,000 – NO WAY. At most a few hundred bucks for fake blood and a few props – unless members of the cast were paid – which seems highly unlikely.

From the opening title which is so badly produced, edited and encoded that it jerks and jumps its way overlaid on top of equally poor quality video, to (what one presumes and hopes is) the end, it lumbers along, struggling to find any continuity whatsoever. Totally random shots and people appear with no link to the previous scene and… well, it's just awful from start to finish.

Goodness know what 'equipment' they used, but the image is of such a poor quality that it could have been shot on an old smartphone. Either that, or whoever was the camera operator didn't have a clue what they were doing.

The lighting was direct and harsh, and it seemed as though there was only one light used, although the colour temperature of the light ranged from orange to blue – with no discernible reason for the change.

The sound sounds as though it was recorded on a Dictaphone placed 'somewhere' in the room, with much of the overacted dialogue remaining unheard because of the sonic ambiance of the room. Echo-a-mundo! The few post-production 'effects' were so bad it was as though a five year-old had been employed to do them.

Really – what were they thinking!! Absolutely everything is awful with this film. I have seen a thousand times better amateur holiday videos than this trash.

Looking for something positive to say about this film is a struggle – and that's being generous. Perhaps the only thing was that there were some very nice naked breasts – apart form that, nothing at all.

Disgusting
jacobmontoya7 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I would give this a -10 if I could. This was one movie I wish I have never seen or wasted my time on. To me it seemed like it was the filmmaker and possibly even the male actors involved cheap excuse to get all the girls naked and to subject them to rape, torture, etc... Disgusting and vile acts are shown dealing with "body fluids" and "Necrophilia" just to name a couple... Why the females would even agree to be a part of this is beyond me? If they were or are that desperate to be in a movie then they would have been better off doing an honest porn/adult movie or even a soft core adult movie instead of what they subjected themselves to in this movie just to be in a movie. Like I said, I just can't believe people would actually agree to go ahead and do the things or allow the other people to do things to them just for a "movie" and with how it is it just appears like the writer/directors cheap way of getting girls to be naked and to abuse them. Completely horrible and avoid at all costs...

Soo Bad
SpringheeledKat22 March 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I'm sorry I managed 4 minutes of this movie. I thought I would give it a go on the merit of the first review that said it was a good film. I wish I had read more reviews than just that one. The first minute after the film title in the café shows you everything you need to know - the acting is bad, the script is bad, the set is bad, the cast are bad - whoever put up any financial backing for this must have had money to throw down the drain. I really have absolutely no idea how someone could ever have rated this movie unless they made it or starred in it (and if you did I wouldn't shout about it if I were you, not one of you is talented enough to do a haemorrhoid commercial let alone have a viable career in acting).

There is nothing redeeming about this huge steaming turd of a movie. Just don't do it.

Sadly
ddv1-974-35900213 April 2014
The concept of the movie is good. The execution is very weak. With the right people behind this movie and a decent budget this movie could have been much better. Change the actors as well. Such terrible acting, I think my 4 year old is a better actor than most of them combined.

Once again, good storyline, although, a few too many boobs and rape scenes.

Don't get fooled by the cover of the DVD.. I believe those are fake reviews as well here on IMDb. 5 of the reviews get a perfect 10, which is according to any standards impossible for this movie.

Hopefully the makers learn from their mistakes and next project will be better.

Different but a great Movie
steve_hodgson1 May 2013
This movie takes you through a lot (cannot give anything away). It keeps you interested and paying attention. Daniel, Jim and John are excellent in this film. The characters continue to grow throughout the film. This is something you rarely see anymore in horror films. Usually characters and plot is one dimensional. Well you will be pleasantly surprised with The Hospital. Jim and Daniel takes the films through twists and turns and keep the viewer interested as to what will happen next. You will see many a horror film actor and actress in this film. The cast is well assembled and play their parts perfectly. This is a throw back to the good old days of scary films. You need to check this out...you will be glad you did!!

Sick puppy of a movie... and I say that with love...
ssmith20104 August 2013
Let's start with a word of warning -- or encouragement, depending on your tastes. "The Hospital" is a sick little puppy of a movie.

The plot is deceptively familiar -- a student reporter goes to a small town to research a "haunted hospital." The locals warn her to stay away, but she ignores their warnings and goes the the hospital where she is promptly captured by the caretaker, a grotesquely fat creep named Stanley. Meanwhile, a group of twenty-somethings get together to investigate the hospital for one of those "Ghost Investigation" television shows. Once they get to the hospital, they run into Stanley and, of course, end up getting more than they bargained for. But the film lulls you into a false sense of security, because when the crap starts to hit the fan (and hit it, it most certainly does), it does so in a way that is unexpected and jolting.

"The Hospital" doesn't scrimp on nudity, violence, and overall sickness and that is a point in its favor. The acting is, as is typical for a low-budget indie, of varying quality but in general it's pretty good -- the victims, in particular, give very brave and believable performances that give the film some real power. Most of the actresses (with one exception) are attractive and the actors don't look like just they were just a group of the director's friends. There are certainly flaws -- the film meanders at times, there are some attempts at comedy that fall flat, and the filmmakers seriously overreach for some special effects (especially in the climax) that just don't cut it and, to be honest, look a little silly.

One specific warning is that in addition to the violence the film has some pretty strong rape sequences. But in a way that actually adds to the realism of the film since that's what you'd expect a real sicko to do. Adding to the realism is that the original student reporter is a very heavy woman -- almost as heavy as Stanley the caretaker -- and in real life these type of women get captured as well as slender and fit gals. (As an aside, they probably should have rewritten some of script once this actress was cast, since the characters continually refer to her as "She's so pretty!" and "She was the prom queen!" which, despite the brave performance of the actress, is not how anybody would describe her.)

"The Hospital" is not for everyone, obviously, but if you are a fan of sick indie horror and want to spend some time with your mouth agape stunned at what you're seeing unfold on the screen before you, then "The Hospital" is definitely worth checking out.

You spilled my milk!
nogodnomasters13 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Stanley Creech (Daniel Emery Taylor...also wrote and directed film) is an obese creepy individual who abducts women, rapes and kills them at the abandoned St. Leopold hospital. A film crew goes there to shoot about the haunting of said hospital along with several young females.

The film is a rape/slasher movie with friendly ghosts and not much horror. The rapes are off camera. Consensual sex is on camera. The acting was better than a "Brain Dead" film and for the most part worse than Asylum. The acting in the restaurant scene had me laughing. If you are expecting a creepy ghost horror film, this isn't it. It you want a fun rape/slasher, this is it, you sick pup go get help.

There is nothing like topless slutty goth looking chicks to make a film say "beer movie."

10 stars as a fun local cult film. I could see where fans of "Blood Sucking Freaks" finding some enjoyment in this short production.

1 star for a serious viewer.

Blood, no gore. F-bombs, sex, and nudity ( April Monique Burril aka Chainsaw Sally, Alicia M. Clark from "Killbillies", Lauryn MacGregor, Christina Schimmel of "Naked Women's Wrestling League" plus others)

This was, well, it was just bad...
paul_haakonsen10 April 2014
Right, the movie's cover/poster actually sold the movie quite nicely, especially because it was the most professional and best part of the movie. Already less than a mere couple of minutes into the movie, you know that it is going to suck.

The story in "The Hospital" is about a group of young women who pay to stay at an allegedly haunted hospital with a some paranormal investigators who are shooting an episode for a TV show. But things are not at all what they appear at the hospital.

Story-wise, then there were potential in the storyline, but it was horribly executed and even worse portrayed on the screen by the people hired to be in the movie. This was the epitome of wooden and rigid acting.

There were so many things in the movie that were just downright horrible to witness, starting with the title track song. Wow, that was just laughable. And the effects in the movie were very low-tech and just came off as way too fake.

For a horror movie, then "The Hospital" was frightfully devoid of anything even remotely scary.

I will give some credit though, the fact that the movie makers did manage to put together a coherent enough movie on a budget like that. Yes, this was low budget, but you could see that the director was pouring his heart into the movie. And thumbs up for that. Just a shame that there was so many other things working against the overall movie. The reason for me rating "The Hospital" 2 out of 10 stars and not a mere 1 star is because that it was clear that a lot of heart and effort were actually put into the movie on some aspects.

If you enjoy horror movies, then stay well clear of this movie. I assume that you might find some enjoyment if you actually know someone who participated in the making of this movie in one way or another.

Waste of an evening
joanneeverett-189-43833618 December 2014
Somehow I managed to stick this movie out until 20 minutes before the end when I got so bored I had to switch it off. At first I thought it was an out and out parody because I couldn't believe that anyone would release a movie with such terrible acting in it. But no, the writer and director were serious and the budget was wasted on this abomination rather than going to a decent director who could have made something of a measly budget (it has been done before).

To the reviewer that said they are a fan of this genre and then goes on to sing this pile of crap's praises, you must have watched some seriously dire horror films in your lifetime. And to all those who gave it more than a couple of stars, clearly your either getting paid to bump up the reviews you know someone in the film, or you're being ironic and the joke's on us (Ha ha). And I'll tell you what is a joke, this film.

DO NOT BOTHER WASTING YOUR TIME WATCHING THE HOSPITAL 2013. WATCH SOMETHING, ANYTHING, ELSE.

Worst.Movie.Ever.
shari_22225 January 2016
I've seen a lot of 'b'movies in my life. Some of them were alright, other were pretty bad, and some were plain bad.

But this? This was just plain terrible. NOTHING in this movie was good. It actually made me angry when I watched it. The acting is beyond terrible, there is no storyline, it's also very misogynistic.

Also the 'special effects' were SO bad, it's not even funny. After I watched this, I felt like 'The Room' deserved 10 Oscars. I still can't believe I watched it out, curiosity? Maybe? Maybe I kept hoping it would get better? I don't know. I'm sad I wasted more than an hour of my life on that crap. I wish I could get that precious time back, and I wish I could erase this bullshit out of my head.

Never I've seen a movie that was so bad as this one, seriously worst movie ever. Thinking about it makes me angry again.

Stay away from this one, I beg you.

Sick, twisted, gut-wrenching, and depraved...
nick-huntsman907 February 2014
But in the best of ways. I tried my best to avoid spoilers on this film as much as possible before viewing, because all I knew ahead of time was that it was full of plot twists. I also knew going into this, it was going to be disturbing to watch. It didn't disappoint. This is a film in the category of "We don't give a f**k how you feel, you're gonna watch this and you're gonna be sickened."

From a critical standpoint, I have to point out that most of the acting is sub-par, but some shining stars in this film are Daniel Emery Taylor, Jim O'Rear, Jason Crowe, and Alicia Clark. The kills are nauseating, and some of them actually hilarious. Some of the production value seems to be cheesy as well, but what can you expect from a soon to be cult classic B-movie?

From an artistic standpoint, I have to give this film a thumbs up. If someone can make a film like Hostel, then why can't they make a film like The Hospital?

All in all, if you want to get some of your friends together and have an unusual viewing experience, do yourself a favor and check this one out. You won't walk away from this feeling the same ever again.

WELL for a home made film they get a(B)for the effort.I JUST HOPE.
mikevonbach9 February 2014
HERE YOU HAVE SOME guys that have a passion to make films.I myself have been involved in filmmaking I couldn't tell whether it was 16mm or a grade of look a like video. In any event they found the resources to get actors,a location, lighting, editing, original basic soundtrack, subject matter and a script. All these elements were pulled together in hopes of entertaining the public. At the end of my intro i wrote {I JUST HOPE} that the next time i see one of their films IT COMES FROM A BETTER SCRIPT.The story is everything most viewers are willing to sit thru low end technique if the story is intriguing. This very same story could have been told in a more interesting way.One idea would be to raise the social status of the women so when they were kidnapped and tortured the viewer could have felt more of a loss.the audience needs to think --HEY THAT COULD HAVE BEEN MY SISTER OR MY GIRL FRIEND.But no one wants to claim throw away low class women.Acting is pretending that you are someone you are not so make your actors act. There also could have been a villain and a hero and someone that was worth saving even if one of the VICTIMS SAVED THEMSELVES.Everything was present BUT THE STORY.

Revisiting for BluRay release.. wait.. this is different!
HorrorFilmHellion24 July 2022
I do recall watching this on its original DVD release, and I remember how I knew it was going to be really bad after the first 10 seconds opening scene, with the dieseling fuel-injected Honda dub-over. It's like those poorly dubbed 4-stroke/2-stroke motorcycle mix-ups that should be impossible to get wrong. Regardless, that's the least likely complaint viewers will have for this low budget exploitation project, especially in its original DVD (apparently heavily cut) form. In reviewing the BluRay print I have now, it is a whopping 25 minutes longer (1:35 vs 1:10), and anything that was cut from the DVD print (at least the one I have) is restored here in all it's low budget glory. I was actually quite surprised in reviewing the BR, as it really is packed with quite a bit of sleaze in forms of rape, general nudity, depravity, and mutilation (even if not well executed). I have to give this team props for being out there on a limb of something more severe and daring than most. Again, it's not a good watch, but it is "I have to see this" daring and quite exploitive, in a trainwreck sort of way. As far as the BluRay transfer.. the quality is not much better than the original DVD, but the uncut content makes this a different movie, in which I had to adjust my rating score up 3 points. I recently reviewed the BluRay release of Adam Ashlbrandt's "Hunters" from 2016 which most viewers think is exceptionally severe in similar content. While that may be, I can say that this one tops it in explicit content and viewability quality than Hunters. ...in my opinion.

Sick & Twisted Containing The Most Depraved Kills In Cinematic History
sarcophagi8 May 2013
AIN'T IT COOL NEWS REVIEW

THE HOSPITAL is a sick and twisted ordeal which, like THE G-STRING HORROR, centers around a paranormal investigation show. This time around, a group of guys lure a handful of women into a supposedly haunted hospital telling them that they will be a part of a paranormal investigation show which will be seen by millions of viewers. In actuality, this is a trap and GHOST HUNTERS soon morphs into an especially tasteless installment of HOSTEL pretty hastily.

To give this film credit, it does have some unexpected turns from start to finish and is able to mislead pretty well throughout, making this a truly unpredictable ride.

On the other hand, this is an especially diabolical film with no woman in its large cast getting out without being stripped, raped, and killed—and sometimes not in that order. There are scenes of torture, abuse, rape, and murder a-plenty here, and though there is attention to story, it is clear the focus of the film is to show different girls in peril over and over and over again.

Had the torture inflicted in this film not been such the object of so many minutes in the film's run time, I'd believe the filmmakers may have been trying to make a statement here about violence by going so far over the top. But sadly, I felt the film may be a little too much fascinated with the torture to know when enough is enough. It was very tough to sit through this film and it definitely caused a lot of unease, which a good horror movie should do, I guess.

But I like a point to my violence, and THE HOSPITAL doesn't seem to have a lot of it besides racking up a kill count with some of the most depraved kills enacted upon anyone in cinematic history. If you have an iron stomach, you might be able to withstand this perverse little indie, but though there is some kind of retribution to the rapist killers in the end, it is definitely not what the camera seems to linger on.

"The Hospital" is probably not what you're expecting.
furshedfilms7 February 2014
About ten minutes into "The Hospital", I realized that this was not going to be the film I was expecting. Billed as a haunted house (or abandoned hospital, to be exact) / psycho-slasher hybrid, I was fully prepared to take in a little indie picture akin to the recent "The Haunting of Whaley House" with a dash of slice 'n dice slasher sauce thrown in to satisfy the gorehounds. What I got was pure B-grade exploitation.

While a supernatural element is present, "The Hospital" has more in common with the grindhouse shocksploitation of the '70s ("I Spit on Your Grave", "Last House on the Left", etc.) than it does any haunted house film. All the staples of the genre are here- shocking deaths, rape, dismemberment, breasts (lots and lots of breasts, all shapes and sizes), and vile depictions of unimaginable acts intended to shock and disgust. Viewed in this context, I found "The Hospital" to be quite an enjoyable slice of sleaze.

In addition to aforementioned genre staples, the film also does feature some of the unfortunate (or charming, depending on your point of view) elements commonly associated with the breed- some sub-par acting, poor lighting and sound design, and shoddy special effects (specifically the ineffective CGI. I understand this was most likely done for budgetary reasons, but in this type of film, I would personally take the cheapest, most amateur practical effects over mediocre CGI any day.). However, none of these issues severely hindered my enjoyment of "The Hospital". This film is not "Citizen Kane", nor does it have any intention to be.

As a fan of horror of all sub-genres, I would recommend "The Hospital" to those with a strong stomach. It's most certainly not a film for everybody, but those with an affinity for exploitation and ultra low-budget indies should find plenty to appreciate here.

Shocking
kosmasp23 August 2020
It's a bit weird rating something when you know some of the people involved in making this. One of the producers and one of the actors that is. But I can't just give this added rating stars just because of that. I gots to keep it real - real as to what I feel and what I would tell people considering this movie. And it is what a friend of mine did too, who warned me about part 1 of these movies.

And right he was. This is filled with ... filth. Now obviously it tries (and I would say succeeds) to shock you. I would also assume that you should not feel terrible or say anything bad about the filmmakers. As in them being depraved or whatever. I don't know them, but I would think they tried their best in piecing together a movie that is or should work as catalyst for some.

But I can't find myself feeling any sympathy nor anything else remotely "good" about watching this. While this may have been intended at least to some degree, there is no redeeming factor to this. Torture, rape, blood and mayhem ensue. And happening almost any other minute. While there is no explicit intercourse (if that is what you want to call it), it almost completely numbs you ... especially if you can think of this just being a movie ... and that is the only way to stay sane ... and while the overall blood effects are at least decent, the "overlaying" effects towards the end (made in camera, but very badly), do not work at all.

Edit: there is one cut that is very well timed and made. It cuts (no pun intended) from a screaming woman to a man scrubbing the floor. The audio being eerily and almost identical. This may be one of the best cuts (audio wise), I've seen and I've seen a lot of movies. Still this does not elevate the movie as a whole and the "acting" in that follow up scene almost ruins that genius moment itself ...
