A beautifully-shot romance, definitely off the beaten track

Warning: Spoilers
This quite lovely period romance impresses as a prime example of how Adult Entertainment can be literate and positive, not merely gonzo content aimed at the typical fan (or addict) of pornography. Extremely slow-moving storytelling is subject to the traditional criticisms, mainly ill-founded, of a "Masterpiece Theatre" type of television production, but I found it an engaging and at times moving viewing experience.

The two key protagonists, Beatrice (Jasmine Teaa) and Anabel (Nicole Kitt) are experiencing sexual awakening in 1819, during a stay at the idyllic title estate. Anabel is the shy one, but quite strong-willed, while Beatrice is already aware of her lesbian (or perhaps bisexual) orientation, shown explicitly when they're visited by her friend Katherine Dansby (tall Nolina Nyx) and her husband Philip Dansby (Dillon Diaz, better known from his Gay Porn assignments).

Visiting laong with the married couple is a haughty but handsome count (Jonte) who spars verbally with Anabel throughout the show, en route to a satisfying romantic conclusion of their tastefully explicit interracial sex outdoors in the final episode (shot hardcore but with softcore camera angles and noticeable absence ot those genital closeups which have marked "sleazy" porn ever since porn became legally exhibited circa 1970).

Casting is specifically multiracial and inclusive, I suppose the porn equivalent of similar breakthroughs via the stage hit "Hamilton" or perhaps more relevantly the recent tv success of "Bridgerton". Lovely Nicole Kitt stands out, having also scored lately in similarly female-friendly roles for Missa X and B. Skow. Dialogue post-synching is of variable quality, especially in the case of Diaz who may have been dubbed with someone else's voice, even though he has proven perfectly capable of delivering his own lines, especially recently for the Transsensual porn label.

Screenwriter Johanna Lord and director Inka Winter have created a quite different Adult work here, which emerges as niche entertainment more by design than default. Consumers of pornography have voted with their wallets in recent decades, preferring all-sex content to the traditional storytelling movies of the '70s theatrical era, so it's folly to recommend this lengthy feature (2-1/2 hours total) to the typical porn fan.

Its tasteful approach, bordering ofttimes as very "precious", is not generally appreciated, but definitely fills a gap on the current scene that is currently filled by the output of its producer Erika Lust. I prefer the stronger (and far more explicit) approach personified by filmmakers Missa X and Nica Noelle, latter who has also made several movies for Erika Lust several years ago -but I welcome this softer format as a valid alternative -what might be classified as X rather than XXX.
