its the worst movie i've ever seen.
dananeira4 January 2023
The directing? Awful. The screenwriting? Even more awful. It does not help that the principal character speaks like a mr beast dub, the main relationship is toxic as hell, and the own movie is confused as to what it is, is it comedy? Is it satire of other movies of the style?

And just don't take my word for it, several people left the screening at different points.

I generally try to look at the positive things over the bad things but seriously there was not even something good in this movie (maybe except the character of pilar and the performance by Itati Cantoral)

I was physically aching by the end.

Watch at your own risk.

Hilarious! Don't miss it
felipealvarezrod22 December 2022
This is a wonderful comedy, I had an amazing time at the theatre. Everyone was laughing hard at all the scenes. Itati Cantoral, mostly known for her role as La Maldita lisiada, was so funny as a mother-in-law villain. The movie also hints at some of the pop culture that has made her famous, such as singing "La guadalupana", and screaming ¡Maldita lisiada! Loretto Bernal is a revelation as well, she is the screenwriter as well as the main character. This movie has action sequences, songs, conjunring, even a bit of horror! I totally recommend you watch it, in theatres. You will have a laugh, guaranteed!

Loved it! Must watch
manugonzaestre5 January 2023
It's a light comedy, with some hints of horror. Loved it. Went with my bf and my mom. I really needed a good laugh and this movie helped with that.

I thought it was funny, and intelligent. The vegetarian metafor was on point, and it speaks volumes about the dychotomy in today's society, about intolerance and rage about someone having different ways of living.

It"s a must watch if you love Itati Cantoral's villains. She gave a heck of a performance on this one. Lol It captures modern times' preoccupation with accepting differences, and it has a lovely message about dealing with mental illness.

Funny. An ironic comedy with a great villain
gabrielasalabrio5 January 2023
I just watched this movie in the theatre, and I thought it was one of the most original I've seen in a while. The main character has OCD, and the movie deals with how people are prejudiced against mental illnesses. The mother-in-law wants to help the main character by giving her a bogus treatment. It was hilarious.

The ensemble was really fun to watch. It's a fantastic comedy, with a bit of the "horrors" of dealing with a mother-in-law who doesn't understand mental illnesses at first, and ends with a sweet message about accepting your family just as it is. I'm definitely watching again. Perfect for the holiday season.

A fun story with a strong message to accept mental illness
FrancoSalcedo5 January 2023
I liked this film. It is a dark comedy. Went with my mother-in-law and had an amazing time. 100% recommend. The movie's main character battles with OCD and she leads a really normal life until she meets her boyfriend's crazy family. I loved it.

I have OCD and I really enjoyed how they chose to portray the character, because she was not the butt of the joke, but a person with a life, a boyfriend and a good job. I think it's important that movies portray characters that lead good lives, while dealing with mental illness.

The message in the end, is very positive, and I thought it was emotional.

100% recommend.

Unexpected! Funny with subtle ironic humor
German2018cine5 January 2023
I went to the theatre without much expectation, and left with a smile. The movie follows Clara, who goes to visit her in-laws for the weekend. The mother is a mess, and Clara is very neat and clean. They are the opposite of each other, and that's what generates all the humor, which I thought was very subtle and ironic. The mom is very old school, and wishes Clara to do stuff for her "baby", such as preparing his favorite food, and pampering him like she does. But Clara doesn't want to do that, and revels againt her. At one point the mom really steps over the line, when she hipnotizes Clara in an attempt to cure her OCD. Then Clara gets her revenge. I thought the message behind, is that of not trying to change who you are to be accepted. I think this is an important message given today's intolerance.

I'll watch again.

Ironic comedy with a twist
LucasLob10 January 2023
If you like comedy, this one is surely a gem. While it's divisive, and some people don't like it, I think it's because not everyone enjoys parody and irony. The story centers around a mother-in-law, Regina, and her daughter-in-law, Clara, and they hate each other. In a way they look like opposites, but they truly aren't. The two women share their love for Patricio, and are both really controlling in their own ways. Throughout the film we see both find the good in each other, and they learn to accept the fact that they see the world very differently. I felt identified and really happy when Clara's character finally faces the mom, and tells her that she shouldn't hide her true nature because of someone who discriminates against her. I thought it was a really fun film, there were some wacko moments I really enjoyed, some slapstick humor, and some truly ironic bits. The combo is a 10/10 for me.

Easy laughter if you like absurd humor
sebastiangarridochile10 January 2023
This is a movie that you could love or hate, depending on whether you love absurd comedy, and a quote of silliness. I really enjoyed the film, and thought it was a really straight forward comedy. No deep feeling messages, just an absurd comedy, with some hilarious jokes. The universe that we go into, is that of a nudist community, where the mother-in-law lives. The mom wants the daughter-in-law to show that she cares about the family by adopting this eccentric tradition. Things get hot and heavy when Patricio's ex shows up and wants to go skinny dipping. Can you imagine something more embarrasing than meeting your in-laws and seeing them naked? That's one of the most over the top and hilarious scenes in the movie. This movie is fresh, and funny. Watch only if you love over-the-top humor. I sure do! I recommend!

A scary mother-in-law to make you wet your pants laughing!
jamesdaviddavenport10 January 2023
Mi suegra me odia portrays the latin mother-in-laws, that have historically been deemed as overprotective. She has the typical issues with her son, she misses him, and believes the reason he doesn't come visit as often is because of his new romance. She finds fault in almost every little thing that the gf does, to the point that the poor gilr starts trying to resemble the mom to gain her approval. She starts trying to become more like her, and she starts participating in some of the things that she tought were awful, such as being an extreme vegan, or doing witchcraft rituals.

The son has a serious case of "mamitis" of being a momma's boy. At the end, as in every comedy, this mirrors life, and if you like a comedy about a disfunctional family-a truly disfunctional one-, you'll like this movie.

Funny take on extremism, through the eyes of a mother-in-law
LiamLi8610 January 2023
This movie makes you want to pee in your pants. At times it is really absurd and at others, really emotional, but what I thought was most striking, was the take on extremism. The MIL is extremely vegetarian, to the point of accusing people who eat meat to be murderers, bad people. The daughter in law, Clara, tries her best to hide most aspects of her life, including the fact that she eats meat, in order to accomodate her. At the end, Clara realizes that she shouldn't try to hide who she is in order to be liked, even if the person in front of you is the mother of your bf. It's a nice film with a message that resonates a lot with cancel culture, and what the extremist views of some people cause on others.

Funniest film of the year!
Liam7407310 January 2023
I rarely say something like this, but this was the funniest film you'll see this year. The story is a hilarious, at times deliverately stupid, with a nude scene that was comedic gold. During the film, we see Patricio's mother, who is really overbearing an at times really sexist, try to separate him from his girlfriend, Clara, who has OCD. With the characters singing along to an absurd song about Patricio's ex, and some bogus hipnotism around a campfire, this movie has many great moments. I guess the ending was too mellow for me, but I did enjoy the film's message and comedic timing. Alexis de Anda's acting was funny, I love her stand up routines. Watch now in theatres while it still plays.

A comedy that doesn't pretend to be anymore than it is.
ElijahNoah4510 January 2023
I watched this film with my girlfriend over Christmas, and I enjoyed it very much. We needed to forget about the world for a moment, and we did. The story is about a couple that go to meet the guy's parents, but they are hoarders, anti-scientific, extremely vegan. The moral to the story is that no matter how different others are, you shouldn't judge or try to change them. Some people are fine just as they are, even if that means they get it wrong sometimes. Bernal's portayal of an ocd person was hilarious and dramatic at the same time. Cantoral's portrayal of the mom is legendary. A true villain!

Fun family comedy -or is it horror?
oliverwilliamreviews10 January 2023
Clara and her boyfriend Patricio head to his mom's house for a weekend of horror, where she'll meet her Mother-in-law, who hates her before even meeting her. The movie captures the difficulties with dealing with someone in your extended family who hates your guts. The problem is that if her MIL doesn't approve of her, she thinks her boyfriend, who is a total momma's boy, will be disappointed and leave. Jerry Velazquez's acting was super relatable, because he just wants to let things slide, to put on a nice smile and hope everyone gets along. But what he'll discover is that family issues are better faced head on. This movie is funny, with lots of awkward silences, and moments where you feel bad for the poor girl. Overall I thought it was very original, unlike other mexican comedies. Don't miss it.
