Around these parts we love us some Casper Van Dien. We've had a soft spot for him since his days as Johnny Rico in Starship Troopers. We know the guy has the goods, and hopefully he gets a chance to stretch his legs a bit with the new feature June!

Victoria Pratt, Eddie Jemison, Theodora Greece, and Lance Nichols have also been cast.

I’m a short film junkie. I’ll watch anything you give me. It’s one of the reasons I continue to judge the Killer Film Festival each year. I love to what filmmakers are putting out, on a budget, with their own money, on a small scale. Why? Because they’re trying to prove themselves. I’m sure we get our share of big filmmakers getting back to their roots and making a short or two occasionally, but for the most part this format is festival fodder or the building blocks of an anthology. If you want to earn the write to make a big movie, start with a short movie and cut your teeth. In all of the shorts I get to watch about 10% are pretty damn good. Good enough for a feature length movie that will rival what studios, indie or not, are putting out. One such effort is Velvet Road,...

For their seventh annual edition, the Spooky Movie International Horror Film Festival is really blowing things up!
Well, not literally. But the world’s premiere horror movie fest is expanding to over double its regular size, screening over 50 films on nine terrifying nights Oct. 10-18 at its new home, the prestigious AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring, Maryland.
The scares kick off on the 10th with the return of local fave filmmaker Richard Bates, Jr. with the feature-length version of Excision about a teenage girl obsessed with becoming a surgeon. The film co-stars John Waters, Malcolm McDowell and Traci Lords. Bates’ original short Excision on which the feature is based screened at Spooky Movie back in 2008.
A few other Spooky Movie alumni who are back with highly anticipated new films include Mike Davis‘ “green” horror movie President Wolfman, which is composed entirely of public domain footage mixed with a rip-roarin...
