could have been awesome...
joelherro29 June 2012
I liked this show, but it had the potential to be so much better...

Furuya is obsessed with zombies and his dream girl is a zombie, which would be weird normally, but this is anime...anyway, he meets Rea, a rich girl who has problems at home and wants to get away from her life and start a new one...meanwhile Furuya's cat dies and he uses an old resurrection spell to revive it (as you do) which turns it into a zombie...I won't spoil the story, but you can tell where this is going...

The animation was cool and the characters were interesting, but it was fairly light-hearted stuff, considering the subject matter...I would have preferred them to go down a darker path and make it more for adults, but that's just me...anyway, it's still pretty good...

Sankarea: Undying Love
Tweekums3 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Protagonist Furuya loves zombies… not just in the sense that he is obsessed with zombie moves; he would also like a real zombie girlfriend! One day he gets one! After his cat is killed in an accident he decides to try to bring it back to life. He has an incomplete recipe for a resurrection potion and goes to an abandoned building to perform his experiments. Here he meets Rea Sanka; the depressed daughter of a wealthy but oppressive father. She takes a small quantity of Furuya's potion hoping it will kill her but it doesn't… in fact it has the opposite effect after she suffers a fatal accident but doesn't quite die… she becomes undead. Unlike conventional zombies she, and the cat, don't attack people and eat their brains; instead they act normally and eat only hydrangea leaves! Furuya is determined to look after her and helps her avoid situations that might accelerate her body's decay and avoid her father who wants her back.

This is an enjoyable romantic comedy with an obvious twist; the fact that the female protagonist is undead. Those expected conventional zombie tropes may be disappointed as there are no hordes of brain-eating undead; in fact apart from her red eyes, unhealing chest wound and her strange diet Rea is an ordinary girl. Inevitably Furuya's male friends are jealous about his new girlfriend (they don't know she's a zombie) and there is a female cousin who sees Rea as a love-rival… clichés of the genre perhaps but they do provide some good laughs. The protagonists are likable, and the antagonist is fairly unlikeable, meaning we care about Rea and Furuya. The characters are well designed and distinctive and the backgrounds look good. Overall this is a fun romantic comedy with an original twist. The only real disappointment is the ending; it hints and more to come but it doesn't look as if a second series will ever materialise.

Uncomfortable
masonfewel1 January 2022
Do you like feeling uncomfortable? Do you like tasteless fanservice? Do you like unresolved romance? If so, this is the show for you.

Honestly the premise of the show isn't bad, and I really liked some of the concepts, but it just overall was not enjoyable to watch. I felt like I shouldn't be watching it most of the time, which made me just not feel very good. Overall, it could have been good, but I cannot recommend you watch this.

It really made me emotional and every single episode was great. I hoped for a Season 2. Which never occurred. I would recommend this series.

Needs another season
WeAreLive20 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Furuya has a fascination for zombies and collects trinkets and watches any movie and plays any game with them in it. When his cat dies however this hobby becomes somewhat of an obsession as he tries to revived his pet using an old manuscript. Rea, an girl who is popular and seems to have it all, is not as happy with her life as it would seem. Her wish is to be reborn another person and she might just get her wish after crossing paths with Furuya.

I personally enjoyed this anime though I wish it had another season.

Very Strange..
AngelzWingz26 February 2019
This show left me asking myself "what the heck am I watching?" after every single episode. However, even though it was definitely weird it was also oddly captivating. The plot was interesting and though I was repeatedly baffled by the strange nature of the situation I still continued watching it. To be honest the show isn't bad but it did bother me how they tried to give a redemption moment to the father when he did very despicable things to his daughter from taking nude photos to slapping her repeatedly and destroying her relationships with others. I would have felt better if they didn't let him still have some leeway into her life (undead or not). Over all, it was definitely a step out of my usual comfort zone for me and would recommend to people who enjoy something odd and different

Great concept, extremely poor execution

Warning: Spoilers
While the idea was cute and this anime started out so good, it turned into a cliche, boring and plain old stupid anime faster than any anime I've ever watched. Don't waste your time with this one.

Terrible anime..
Irishchatter6 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I just think this was rather underwhelming because it's pretty much fluffy and scenes were rather dragging on as if it was holding for dear life. I agree with some of the reviewer's here that it was indeed too lighthearted, especially when it comes to a dark backstory behind the zombie or child sexual abuse issues. I did find the father taking pics of his daughter was very horrendous and disturbing. Like why couldn't they make this anime become a lot more serious then make it all happy dappy as if it was a Disney show?

I'm giving it a 1/10, it's just completely a wash out of not getting a anime right at all especially when a crime was committed by an adult to a child!!!
