Good actors and that's about it!
EyeDoc1626 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Kivanç & Beren are some of the best Turkish actors out there. Their acting is great if they are given a good script. The movie and storyline is ridiculous though. The writers/ directors/ producers are trying to appeal to an American audience and trying to seem more westernized by showing sex scenes, racy content and lots of cussing. Guys, you are Turkish, just be Turkish! Embrace your culture. Stop trying to do "American-like" movies and shows. People love Turkish dizi's and movies because they are so different than western media. This movie was a major fail in my opinion. Very cliche and too much trying to be something you're not.

... pretty to look at, not much else
bjarias24 November 2023
... attractive-actors, better than average production values & the city views are highlights of this romance-drama... a fantasy based story that half way through come's the one twist on which the entire plot-storyline of the movie rests... it would have gained one rating point had not the ending be so typical Hollywood

... appears mostly Christmas & romance films make up the bulk of viewing choices.. as they go, this one's not terrible, yet definitely not worth going out of your way to see... fits right in a Netflix lineup, satisfying audiences speaking the language, they are a worldwide entertainment-conglomerate after-all.

What a disappointment
buzice24 November 2023
It is more like a NewYork guide... to be honest I was not expecting such a light one esp. From Kivanc... I watched just to refreshen my NYC memories.. the story is very ordinary.. And how cool can one be with a lost luggage especially if her purse is also in?? Instead of going to the police, she makes a Chinatown tour!!

For a long time, Netflix is making very simple, low level productions.. I assume here they had to downgrade the potential and thats why we have such a simple movie.. I am really so disappointed because I thought finally there is sth to watch on Netflix! But all we have is a movie that I think any of us could have written!

Enchanting Chemistry and Missed Opportunities
mournfulmaniacc24 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Intrigued by the palpable chemistry between Kivanc and Beren, I found myself engaged throughout the film. Their on-screen connection is undeniable, leaving me hopeful for future collaborations between the two.

While the plot held my attention, I couldn't shake the feeling that it only scratched the surface of its potential depth. It felt like a snippet from a TV show rather than a fully developed cinematic narrative. The opening scenes teased an intriguing premise, raising questions about the characters' motivations-would it be a forbidden romance or a fleeting affair?

Personally, I couldn't help but imagine a more intricate storyline involving Mehmet and a mysterious medical condition affecting his memory. Perhaps he struggled to remember Serin as his wife, leading to a poignant exploration of love, loss, and rediscovery. This alternate plotline could have added layers to the narrative, creating a more memorable viewing experience.

Despite this missed opportunity for a deeper exploration, the film is still worth a watch. The undeniable charisma between the lead actors and the initial intrigue make it an enjoyable experience. However, it falls short of leaving a lasting impression, and you may find yourself moving on to the next cinematic adventure without lingering thoughts about this particular movie.

Melodrama @NYC view
falihk9924 November 2023
The feelings the actor and the actress expected to show do not match the main flow. You miss the sensations; they cannot reflect. Movie starts with a woman who puts her wallet and cell phone into her luggage and luggages are mixed at the airport. The audience is expected to follow everything with this beginning. One asks why someone puts her purse and especially cell phone in her luggage ona very long flight; actually at any flight. Then, other hard-to-believe scenes make you loose your connection with reality. K Tatlitug's performance is a bit better; however way worse than his previous movies.

Unapologetic promiscuous married woman plans to seduce stranger
robinhio84_24 November 2023
This movie is unlike any Turkish production most of us would have seen. And it might not be appealing for everyone in the Middle East as it is a romcom with a woman who is highly unapologetic bold and assertive in her explicit intentions. Acting of the male character is good. And the woman is not bad, but her behaviour especially is quite scandalous. The way she carries herself with the guy is remarkable and will make people frown more then a few times... The opposite way around (him chasing her that way) in today's standard would not be accepted.

Who should watch this, hard to say, but initially it will probably be progressive people or those that watch the movie from an adult entertainment perspective. As the movie progresses somehow it picks up and get into a more realistic story. Which is worth finishing.

STORY: A woman and a stranger connect of the lost suitcase on New York City airport. After both expression that they are married, the women shows up for drinks in a skimpy glitter dress and speaks out that her marriage is boring and that she wants to have fun with the man. What follows is a night out with drinks and her winning a saucy contest which is filmed for social media...

As the movie progresses, It is strongly recommended to keep watching

ANALSYS The story on itself is not that shocking, but the way the female characters goes about having fun outside of her marriage is really what makes it a bit of an uncomfortable watch. In real life, many men would not like this approach, but it is better the watch the movie until the end before judging. It is a movie that one probably will remember in parts.

DECOR / STAGING / VISUALS / EDITING It all looks very good and professional. The scenes are beautifully captured and the editing is smooth. Technically this is great movie. And the scenes all look great. Aesthetically the movie looks good, including the main characters, they look like a flaming couple.

SCREENPLAY Acting is good, initially the director mainly choose for good looks, later dialogue becomes more prominent. Side characters are a bit theatrical.

A fun start, even more senseless than senseless-a disappointing ending once again.
olcare24 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I just finished watching it, and once again, unfortunately, it was a disappointment. Netflix Turkey continues to produce works that are simple and, in my opinion, well below the expected level. The simple and poor ending, along with an uninteresting 2nd and 3rd act, truly surprised me.

Firstly, the film's obvious flaw, in my opinion, was the idea of turning the romantic-comedy plot established in the first 40 minutes into a game played by a married couple and two strangers who are new to each other. This idea caused the entire first 40 minutes to be wasted because there was no smooth transition between the two parts. It felt as if Beren Saat and Kivanc Tatlitug played some scenes six months ago and some scenes six months later, damaging the performances of these two actors. Their performances were generally ordinary due to this imbalance, and in a film like this, the acting should have stood out.

Another part I didn't like at all was the ending. It became tedious with the cliché of connecting everything to a suitcase and an overly clichéd reunion. I got bored at the end, even though around the 30th minute, I thought they had at least managed to make a light-hearted film.

The film's only positive aspect was its successful portrayal of New York. Having such an opportunity and creating this film with a scenario reminiscent of a middle school Wattpad book is incredibly funny and bad. It's a disgrace that there is nothing different in all the Netflix Turkey works I've watched recently; there's zero imagination, which is a huge disappointment.

The music selections were successful, and there were two or three scenes with fast cuts that worked well. The costume choices were okay; I liked them. However, a terrible script, combined with two actors who were influenced by this script and acted artificially, ruined the film.

In the final paragraph, let's reflect on this. It's incomprehensible to gather such talented actors and produce such dull works. Has our imagination really died? I've seen many things much more quality than this for ten or twenty thousand dollars. I don't think it's about money. There's nothing more to say; it's a shame.

Where did all the good Turkish writers disappear to?
VH0765425 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The concept of the Last call for Istanbul movie is interesting but unfortunately execution is heavily flawed

Both characters are likeable and their respective contribution to the marriage and its problems seems well thought of. The premise is good but that's the extent of it. Everything else about that movie failed. The movie lacks several things:

1) The script underplays Beren and Kivanc acting abilities. These two actors have such a wide range of acting skills and are capable of so much better quality acting. The writers should have written a better screenplay to take advantage of the skills of these two actors. Instead they went with the basic too-easy romantic movie. Last call for Istanbul had the potential to be a landmark Turkish romantic movie but it totally failed

2) Why was there a need to over-sexualise the female character played by Beren Saat? It feels like these digital platforms tend to always over-compensate for the conservative censorship inside Turkey. They overload the stories with over-the-top sexuality that is not natural to the story. It would have been much better to let the story play out with the right dose of physical attraction, similar to the right balance that Aski-memnu series managed to reach back in 2008-10. This is where an experienced writer is needed to balance the story out and set the right tone. It feels like Netflix and Disney+ have a complex to go overboard with physical scenes. It made Beren's character dislikeable and very close to being taken as a prostitute in the movie. It was a weird story arc

3) It feels like the movie missed on a great opportunity to showcase Manhattan. The movie is supposedly set in New York which is one of the most beautiful places to shoot a movie in. The director and producers could have done a much better job showing the beauty/vibe of the city and the magic that this city has to offer. It would have elevated the movie so much and would have given it an epic dimension. Such a shame that it missed that! In addition, it is so obvious that the hotel they stayed at is fake/not set in Manhattan. There are literally several thousands of hotels in Manhattan that they could have used. Shooting in real actual locations gives dimension and depth to the movie and grounds it well, like we have seen in so many Hollywood movies and shows. Surely Netflix would have the budget to shoot the movie in NY

4) The premise of these two great actors reuniting after the 2008-10 success of Aski-memnu reminds me of Leo DeCaprio and Kate Winslet second movie (Revolutionary Road movie), and Michelle Pfiffer and Al Pacino second movie (Frankie and Johnny movie). Similar to these movies, Last call for Istanbul rightly narrowed down the story to focus on the on-screen dream duo (Kivanc and Beren) and their chemistry, which is a good call. Unfortunately, the screenplay and the execution turn out not to be up to the task

5) For the first half of the movie, the story of two strangers connecting in a city has been done successfully in the past with great movies like Lost in Translation, Once and Before Sunrise which where able to capture our hearts and portray the beauty of that connection. Unfortunately this movie is falling short from this. Again it is the poor writing and directing that are unable to meet that standard

Great actors but the movie missed the mark by a lot. Overall very average movie, which is a shame as it had so much potential! Makes me wonder if there are any good quality writers, producers and directors left in the Turkish movie industry.

Great plot but disapointing ending
hamzaelgharime28 November 2023
I liked the scenes, the chemistry, the cinematography but specially how they painted well the problematic situations in couples. They did a good job at it! I still think they could have done a better ending that involves a more realistic behaviours and a psychology lesson. Overrall nice. I'm just adding this paragraph to reach the required characters for the comment to be posted, they really a lot of characters 600 exactly. You can stop reading by now you're probably tired and i'm too. Oh my god this is not ending god help please this is not ending. They should seriously review this characters policy. Ouf it ended. Thank you.

Don't waste your time
betul_ayberkin24 November 2023
It is terrible as expected from Beren and Kivanc. They both play in many Turkish movies replaying same Turkish clichees on love etc. The English speaking scenes were so bad it made me laugh. They try and speak so slowly it's like kindergarten English class.

Also the wrong grammar of Turkish language used in Turkish movies and series irritates me. We don't use pronouns in the beginning of sentences such as I will come; instead we say will come. This wrong use of language with the typical pauses and stares in Turkish Movie industry really annoys me. This is bad use of language.

I definitely don't recommend anyone to waste their time.

It's a cute romantic comedy movie
zgnruh24 November 2023
I understand the criticism about "cheesiness" of the story, yes it's not something undone before and all.

After all, it's a romantic comedy movie to watch at home when you got time to kill. The actors are amazing, there is something empty with the plot such as the Asian guy who mistakenly took Serin's suitcase, if he is at the hotel then why he can't come back until the next morning? Or if his family lives & working in Manhattan why the guy stays in a hotel? That part did not make any sense to me.

The transmissions are well done, imagery is beautiful in my opinion. The ending didn't sit right with me, why Serin has to give up her job opportunity again? I thought they were going to agree on finding a middle ground. Ending was wrong.

Cute lovestory in turkish hits the modernity obstacle
Tomaslillebror11 December 2023
A romantic takeoff during a warm New York summer sets the feel of this lovestory. The main characters are played by a turkish actor and actress in this turkisk production. Both actors are very good looking and very charming which makes this movie easy digest.

Beren Saat, an uncanny lookalike of Ellen Barkin and Linda Fiurentino, plays. Serin, a woman getting headwind in her creative design career but is confronted with a choice. Her co-actor Kivanç Tatlitug, a lookalike to Ricky Martin, plays Mehmet. A man also developing his career and also confronted with life choices.

Its very well made production, a classic cut I would say. The directing is satisfying, cinematography, photo, music and acting are all on point and not much to criticise. You get a genuine feel. Every character does a great job and its a movie easy to digest but not all uncomplicated. The story has some depth.

With that said, you will likely not cry or walk out of the theater like a new person. Its not a gamechanger but nice.

Funny thing I couldnt help but notice is how similar turkish sound to japaneese.

Yeah Im neither.

pretty indifferent love movie, a wasted potential
cagataykugu27 November 2023
I don't wanna make a long review for this one. A basic love story, nothing interesting about the story itself but the circuitous storytelling makes it (a little bit) interesting at some point. To not give any spoilers I will not mention that part in detail but if you have already watched it you'll understand what i mean. Also I didn't like the parts set in New York. NY could be more detailed and involved because the movie is set in NY (like 90 percent of it). There could be some romantic scenes at NY, i mean like the couple having a picnic at the Central Park, hugging each other by the view of central park's lake... But as you can guess non of them is in the movie... Buttt our producers somehow wanted to have an orgasm and doggy sex scene instead of this beautiful romantic and heart warming scenes... Probably they wanted the movie to trend on social media because of this scenes so they can gain viewers and off course more money. I personally didn't comprehend the motivation of making such a move, 'cause movie already has two brilliant stars that pretty popular in Turkey. We haven't seen this two together for a while and they deserved to be in a better movie together. I don't think it's worth the hype for it...

Dont waste your time
eminoz-2786624 November 2023
This might be up there with one of the worst movies i have ever watched in my entire life. I have honestly wasted one and a half hours of life.

The story line was non-existent!! The director recycled two famous actors from a popular and successful turkish movie 'aski memnu' and hoped for the best. It tricked me into thinking it would be a good movie!

The acting was boring and there were some inappropriate scenes. It definitely isnt a family friendly movie.

Theres literally two actors in the entire movie as well, the rest are extras in the background. Im really disappointed and I would not recommend anyone wasting their time.

A film that gives so much expectations and ends in a droll way that doesn't feel sustainable.

Synopsis: A man and a woman from Istanbul stumble upon each other at the baggage reclaim area where the woman's trolley bag gets swapped with someone else's identical bag.

The man decides to extend a helping hand and drops her off at the place where the man whose bag she has lived. He's not there and would be able to swap back the bags in a day.

So the man drops her off at a hotel where he later decides to stay as well, in case the man never shows up and the woman is left helpless. The two later meet on the rooftop and flirt while delving into their marriages and partners.

worst movie ever
mergawi24 November 2023
It seems like such cliche movie at first but as you dive into it it's much worse than even that, Turkish cinema/media act so hard to pass themselves off as Westerns but they fail miserably.

These type of movies don't comply with the native culture and morals of the communities in which they are shown in, so why show something like that to an audience which does not approve of these.

And the acting is so fake and forced you know they're acting which makes you take the movie less serious, and the portrayal of New York is nothing like what they've appeared it to be, people don't draw your pictures out the kindness of their hearts, they don't hand out flyers to you since you're a cute couple together.

Love marriage life
vickieyang-981637 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I couldn't believe that so many friends don't like it . This movie is more than a movie but also Leading us to think about life. This reminded me to think about my life as well. I'm slightly the same with the female actor, I've been always tending to feel bored with all the same things, including places friends parters. I think the reason why it happened is that I didn't dig deeply into my life. So I couldn't find the exciting moments most of the time. So I've been always struggling to how to have a radical change with my life and wasting loads of time of my life not in the real activities. This movie sent a red flag that I should touch my life with silent mind.

Big disappointment
bozhankurt27 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
If a cinema student writes such a simple and cliché script, he would never graduate from the faculty. But in the peculiar cinema system, some people manage to receive huge budgets to realize such an ordinary movie... I cannot believe why two of the biggest actors/actress of Turkey accepted to be such a simple and cliche script! Why?? Basically a married couple go to psychologist before their divorce. The psychologist recommends them to give one last chance to their relationship, and after they spend one more night together (in New York), they decide to continue to their marrige... there is not any special, cinematic scene. Thats all :)

There's only one good thing about it
EMMYY994 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I can't say I'm not disappointed, i was waiting for something bigger from two big talented actors.

Poor script, mid acting and cliché ending.

The only good thing about it is that we are watching Beren and Kivanc once again together on the screen since Ask memnu.

This movie just brought up the memories of Ask Memnu that every fan of this show loved and missed, so if you haven't watched it or loved it probably wouldn't get what I'm talking about.

That's why i give it 6.

You just can't stop smiling while watching them together, you gotta admire the chemistry between them.

Definitely if this movie was featuring different actors I'd give it lower rating.

Major Disappointment
nhqzmbqr26 November 2023
These Turkish stars are not capable of acting in a western world. They fail miserably. Plus I can't even imagine how the Turkish audience will react. Doesn't play well here in America either. Poorly written and edited. Cheesy plot. Cannot believe that Netflix even bought it. What were they thinking? The male protagonist is popular in Turkey but in shows more befitting of the Turkish culture. Plus I would like to comment on the voiceover actors. They are quite simply terrible. They have no inflection in their voices and make the movie even worse. Having the location as New York does not make this movie appealing in any way.

Gave a 6 just for Kivanç and Beren
anxhelabajramix29 November 2023
Here's not much to say, the story is so simple and so unattractive that it even fades the great chemistry that these actors used to have. Both Kivanç and Beren are great actors and they deserve a better plot. I know we're accustomed to those typical dramas and they wanted to do something different but the beginning was a bit unbearable for me, don't know why, just didn't gave the click needed to attract my immediate attention. The whole thing looked vague. The production was more concerned on showing us New York's sights than focusing on the characters or the story. Also what about that ending?! Ok Kivanç and Beren act really good but it was so cheap, unmeaningful, the typical airport scene. Wish they had gone for a different ending so they could make a part 2.

The magic disappeared
nanaxanything28 November 2023
After years of waiting, the movie by two popular Turkish stars was released with a lot of publicity, but it soon turned into a huge disappointment.

The last call for Istanbul has a weak and trivial scenario. A woman (Bern Saat) mixed-up her luggage with another person at the airport, and this is the beginning of getting to know Mehmet (Kivanch Tatlitou). At first, the viewer expects to see a twisty and drawn-out story from the two main characters of the film. While basically there are no other actors in the movie, this is a douet of Beren Saat and Kivanch Tatlitug, who have to carry the burden of the story. There are so many weaknesses in the scenario structure and raw storytelling that it is impossible to count them all: Why did she keep her cell phone and wallet in her luggage on a long flight of 11 hours? So what's in that handbag?

Why did she open and check the luggage after receiving it at the airport? How did the guitar that Mehmet carried affect the story? Why was the Asian man absent from the hotel and arriving the next day? He was neither with his family nor in the hotel. So where could he be?

Shouldn't the woman have looked for her missing luggage more seriously? She would go to the police or look for an Asian man instead of going to New York to have fun. Is Fake Orgasm Club the only place to see in New York? Or the only thing that can be done in New York and not in Istanbul?!

About the acting: It was said that Beren saat and Kivanc Tatlitug are the best actors of their generation in Turkey. Those who follow them are very familiar with how they play and their projects. In the last call for Istanbul, we see a very weak and disappointing act from both of them.

Kivanch gave a weaker performance than usual, but Beren saat's performance was worse than anything and hit the audience like a sledgehammer.

Uncontrollable, careless, and fake. She was trying to look sexy and seductive, but she was more ridiculous. Constant laughs for no reason throughout the movie, even when she was sleeping on the couch; that big stupid smile on her face; even, oh my god, she was laughing during sex! Exaggerated body language; uncontrollable facial and lip movements; terrible English, just like an amateur actor. It can be claimed that even Kivanc's acting was affected. The design of clothes and make-up had no definition. I can say with confidence that Beren Saat came to New York with clothes from her own closet, because we know her choice of clothes.

No matter which part of the movie we remove, nothing changes because the parts of the story are not connected to each other.

The first 40 minutes of the movie is a boring story of a couple having fun.

Maybe they thought that because they are having fun, the audience must have fun too!

The ending of the movie was another big weakness. This couple did not reach any conclusion about their problem. The woman gave up her dream job and returned to her country! Was this what the audience expected? Wouldn't it be better to reach a third solution that would be win-win for both?

I can say that the dream of playing a movie in New York tempted them. If this script was made in Istanbul, would they be willing to act in it? My guess is no.

The magic of the unforgettable couple beren saat and kivanc tatlitug disappeared after 13 years.

Disappointed
ElifK-198326 November 2023
Please do not waste your time watching this movie. Upon viewing the film, it is my observation that the portrayal of the actor and actress does not convincingly convey a sense of romantic involvement. The performances lack of the necessary elements to evoke the perception that the characters are genuinely in love. Maybe we should criticise bad script as well as actors. Really really a bad movie. It is evident that the quality of the shooting does not align with the standards typically associated with the excellence in cinematography. It is my sincere belief that a comprehensive evaluation of specific criteria is warranted before finalising the decision to release the film to the public.

Last scene is the only good one in the movie.
xykatexy16 December 2023
This is the most wannabe romance movie I've ever seen. All the while predictable, with many tasteless scenes (like on the street when she is stopped by people, or the competition scene)- none of them brought anything to the plot at all. I liked the theme of struggle with marriage and career goals, it is very current and a problem for many nowadays.

Now tell me why, WHY, do the two actors who are famous for their chemistry in Aski Memnu have NONE here. How did the directors manage to do that is beyond me. Kivanc is a much better actor now than he used to be, but this project... he's too good to be there. Beren's way of speaking made me want to jump out my skin, it was so juvenile and unlikable. She's usually a good actress, I don't know what happened.

I disliked the majority of the movie, except for the very last scene- no, of course I'm not talking about the most cliche airport reconciliation scene- instead, at the very end, they are both laughing over a lost suitcase I presume. I loved that scene, it's so realistic how exasperated they are, and it's genuinely funny.

Overall: this is a classic romance cliche film, don't get your expectations high just because the cast is strong.
