Don't waste your time!
frank-liesenborgs15 April 2023
Despite the link to the real-life Jack the Ripper case, the film Ripper's Revenge failed to deliver a captivating storyline. Writer/Director Steve Lawson's fictitious take on the infamous serial killer lacked originality and seemed to rely too heavily on the Ripper's reputation to keep the audience interested. Even with the casting of Rachel Warren as Iris, the lady of the night and Stubb's girlfriend, the film failed to add any depth to her character or the plot. The lack of character development made it difficult to sympathize with the characters and their struggles. The plot twists were boring and predictable, making the overall storyline unexciting. There were no special effects worth mentioning. In conclusion, Ripper's Revenge was a disappointing film that failed to live up to its potential as a sequel to Ripper Untold (2021). It lacked the necessary components to make it an exciting and memorable film. Waste of time.

Not a bad film
alizay-0100723 May 2023
As a fan of all Jack the Ripper movies and tv shows ( RIPPER STREET and WHITECHAPEL the best), I watched Rippers Revenge. Well it's not terrible. The majority of film takes place in Maggie's room. She shares it with Sebastian the newspaper reporter who want to be famous. She pays the bills as each " evening she goes out to work". Sebastian decides he will create another Jack the Ripper frenzy here in London. He plants letters at newspaper. And a murder happens. At newspaper is another writer named Lenny. Sebastian brags that Jack is back. Lenny asks how he knows? Then another murder. And another. But Sebastian swears it wasn't him. Who was it? The Real Jack? It's not a bad film. Very slow paced though. I was mesmerized by Sebastian . He really hates his life!

Very very poor movie
gtlinfield30 September 2023
The opening moody shots across what is supposed to be Victorian London should be warning enough to give this movie a miss as it showed Portcullis House which was only opened in 2001 having been built in the late ninties. The plot was awful as was the acting, how this movie ever made it to the production stage is a mystery. The plot line was, at the very least, only suitable fo a pre teen viewing audience and even they would have found it tedious, even the "twist" at the end wasn't even worthy of a primary school exercise. A particular point was that all the costumes provided by the wardrobe department was always in a pristine, freshly laundered state, not commensurate with the period and setting at all. A very dismal waste of time, avoid at all costs.

Micro budget. Micro talent. Watch something else.
stevelivesey-371839 August 2023
There's something very eighties about these movies by Steve Lawson. By that I mean that back in the days of video stores, we all used to judge the quality of the movie by how the front cover looked on the shelf. The better the cover, the more likely we were to rent the movie. The number of times that we took home movies only to be disappointed by them within the first half an hour. Just like Rippers Revenge.

In truth, the set up is not that bad. The problem with all Lawsons movies is the lack of budget and thus production values.....and maybe talent.

Nevertheless, I must give credit for getting the thing made.

Just one question. Why the naked woman committing suicide in the opening scene?

Not what i was expecting
rayven-3888216 April 2023
I came by this film expecting a cheap slasher style film and was pleasantly surprised by a well acted drama.

This is in no way a horror like the poster suggests but the story definitely keeps you engaged. Chris Bell and Rachel Warren do really well leading the film. Costumes look authentic and the director clearly has a good eye for talent and creating this type of film.

Would have been better with more locations and a few more ripper bits but it still works well as it is.

I enjoyed the twists and the fact that just when you think you have worked out the story, theres another twist around the corner.

This will be a DVD ill be keeping.

Well what can I say, Steve Lawson's writing at its best, a slightly different angle on the Jack The Ripper story albeit still very good, the two lead actors Chris Bell & Rachel Warren delivered great parts & were definitely cast right, I've seen a few of Chris' work & he never over performs & just gives the right amount of pure dedication to his work as does Rachel.

I'm pretty sure these two actors will definitely work together again some day soon the working chemistry between them is great you get some actors who work opposite each other doesn't work as well.

Well done to all the team 10/10.

Drama Drama Drama
recemac21 April 2023
If your looking for a FROM HELL type of film then your gonna be disappointed with rippers revenge. I gotta admit i was expecting more gore and horror and more thrills, but; I gotta say the characters made this film what it is. They do very well to keep you watching and the twists are very good. I would say its more of a drama than a horror though.

I havent seen the first one of this film and don't think i need to by all accounts. I have seen a few films now from this director and he does appear to use a small cast but the actors he uses are definately getting better, as are his scripts.

Overall ive given them a generous 6/10 as it did keep me gripped and was well done.

Great plot twist
ccdgx16 April 2023
Once again Chris Bell knocks it out the park with his portrayal of Stubbs in this sequel of the Ripper tales!

Along side Rachel Warren the pair really drag you in to the plot as it twists and turns toward the final conclusion!!

Chris has many titles to his name and they just keep getting better. If you are a fan of Jack the Ripper stories then this one's for you!

Chris really pulls you in and brilliantly helps you create a love/hate relationship with his character! As always he is made for the loveable rogue portrayal.

Rachel plays the perfect partner in crime with her wicked streak portrayed perfectly as Iris which paired perfectly along side Chris they keep you guessing till the end.

Jack the Ripper Fan
alya-6366620 April 2023
As a massive Jack the Ripper fan I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this. Wasn't trying to be something it can't by doing rubbish killings. The cast were brilliant and I preferred this to some of the other Ripper films in recent years.

One year on from the notorious "Jack The Ripper" murders, the killings have stopped, but the identity of the killer remains a mystery. Down-at-heel newspaper reporter Sebastian Stubb has moved on to reporting on other scandals, but when a new "Ripper" letter appears on his desk and the killings start again, he unwittingly finds himself at the center of a new mystery. Has the "Ripper" returned, or is it a copycat killer? Or something else entirely?

A Mystery of a Mystery
themovieraidshow15 April 2023
The story involves a London reporter who is struggling to make ends meet and provide for his girlfriend that he lives with, one day at work he discovers a letter in his bag that was signed by Jack the Ripper a murderer that he wrote about a year ago. A dark mystery is further investigated that there is more to it than the murders.

This story is wraveled with mystery, betrayal, deciet and denial. The scenery although feels tight spaced it does make the tone more in focus between the main cast. It is also praised with such a small cast it achieved a tough challenge on how can multiple characters have a connection and have the mystery of the subject stay relevant.

The lighting within each scene really paints a warm color scheme despite how dark it is. As you watch the mystery becomes more than a character defeating evil or being submitted to it it's just the opposite.

This is a film for mystery lovers it is sure to surprise you and keeps you wondering until the climax moment.

It's the angle of the story "heros become villains and villains become heros" it's up to you who you think fits the title.

Decent watch
allcelebritiesarebald16 February 2024
There is good acting in this and also the pacing is decent. The story is okayish, it's a jack the ripper is back murder mystery, or is he? Main character is a news reporter figuring things out.

It's obviously low budget with most of it happening in 3-4 locations, it could work as a stage play. It's dialogue heavy. Even though it's lower budget the makeup, costumes and locations all look decent. No low budget mishaps, lighting, camera work etc. Are all good.

There's a couple of dead women in rather gruesome fashion but I didn't find it too extreme, there is also some bare breasted lady. Minimal actual violence the dead bodies are just laying with blood on them.

Surprisingly good
shill-7760015 October 2023
I went into this with no expectations whatsoever. Well that's not exactly true. I really expected it to be another 'churn 'em out, never mind the quality just get the money in', waste of resources with no artistic or even commercial merit. I was quite wrong.

First thing to say is that this isn't a Jack the ripper story, nor is it a morally dubious slasher movie. It's more of a whodunnit, thriller type story set against the background of the Whitechapel murders. Anyone looking for a gory horror is going to be very disappointed. As for the storyline, there are so many twists in the second half of the film a comparison with 'Double Indemnity' is quite fair. A couple of times I found myself thinking "Yes! I knew it, it was obvious....er...oh! I didn't expect that...".

The design, costumes, make-up, dialogue and photography are generally good, evoking real life in 1880s London, but the errors are intensely jarring - the use of what looks like a farm building to represent an East End warehouse, the sight of Portcullis House in the views of Parliament, and no woman would ever be seen on the streets dressed like the prostitutes here without being arrested. A lot of things can be forgiven when the filmmakers have a very tight budget, but the film is really let down by these. The biggest flaw, though is the music. It's far too intrusive. When the audience pays more attention to the music than to the drama, you know it's wrong.

All those criticisms aside, I still really enjoyed the film, and it's worth another viewing.
