A breath of fresh air in the Philippine movie scene Warning: Spoilers
Pera Kwarta Salapi offers a fresh take on a drama/comedic musical film in the Philippines. In light of the recent booming of erotic films on streaming apps in the country, this film takes you to a different but fun experience. We follow the journey of a disbanded musical group (Erasmostars) through their midlife blues. Driven by greed and self-interest, they forgot that friends, family and love are more important than money and fame. Parallel to the musicians' story is the forbidden relationship of Robbie (Jiro Custodio) and Julie (Sam Coloso), a couple who wants nothing to do with their parents' dream for them. The catalyst is Vino (Marvin Velasquez) a talent manager who happens to be the one that was left behind by the group 20 years ago when they were offered to have a musical career as singers in a hotel and casino in Las Vegas. Little did they know that he had a plan. Now that he is wealthy, has the upper hand and driven by revenge, he will do anything and use anyone just to succeed. Pera Kwarta Salapi is the director's (Carlo Alvarez) first venture into the musical genre. He is often associated with suspense and crime related films such as the multi award-winning films TRES and SABADO, this is definitely an odd choice for him but nevertheless an effective one. The songs are originally composed by the film's executive producer Erasmo Mallillin. This film is highly recommended for families all over the world.
