Slightly above C "in the woods" horror.
Patient44420 April 2014
Surprisingly enough the plot was actually kinda complex. Sure, had its holes but once the action starts you do start do wonder a thing or two.

So let's begin: the acting was B+ for a horror, I was relatively impressed; the characters were maybe a tad bit cheesy, only wrong element being the "creeper". That one completely failed in my book; Camera work was good, better than your usual flick in the woods horror; plot came with a twist which shows that the producers actually put their brains at work; last but not least, death scenes, weak.

Tho 3 lovely girls are involved, all of them with huge cleavages, nudity won't make an appearance here. Little blood, a few good friendly jokes and the usual "let's split and everybody run in one direction waiting for the script to decide who dies next".

The reason I said C and not B will be explained once you view this. Which brings me to the next question: do I recommend it? Well, it could work if you are a fanatic in horror and you wanna add one more to the collection. In rest, although an effort was put into it, you can clearly see that it's missing the punch! Characters were indeed explored a little but in the end it had to be a horror and acted too little like one. Watch it and you'll most likely feel the same.

Cheers!

Wedding in the woods
kosmasp20 October 2014
Not really, but cabin in the woods is overused. Oh wait: everything shown here is overused. The soon to be husband, who might not be real marriage material, the girlfriend who has a best friend, who really is into their friendship. And so on and so on, with more stock characters. Also while it's not a bad thing, the present setting (with a bit of "mystery") with a person narrating what happened, might work for other movies, but is just another thing that doesn't work here either. Especially considering what happens at the very end ... which just happens ... for no reason at all.

Anyway, there are not that many effects, though they are nicely done. Acting-wise you shouldn't expect too much. As already made clear the script is really not good either. Could've been a lot better, but as it is, a waste of time

I THOUGHT I SAID NO PARTY!
nogodnomasters9 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
A group of six people go away for a weekend prior to a wedding. Wealthy anxiety prone Kennedy (Julia Benson) is getting married to Ryan (Peter Benson). The party includes Kennedy's older slightly jealous half sister Hannah (Christine Chatelain). Emily (Emilie Ullerup ) is a super friend to Kennedy. Chet (Kyle Cassie) is the best man who wants to get back with Hannah while Derek (Benjamin Ayres) is the confrontational old buddy of Ryan. He knows stuff about Ryan that make Ryan uneasy. He has his eye on Emily. They are renting a place from the overly creepy Bo (Dave Collette).

The film smartly takes it time to build and establish character and have minor confrontations. About 50 minutes or so when the body count starts to mount in this who-dun-it, the film seems to fall apart. There was nothing spectacular in the killings. The panic aspect didn't seem to work. The plot, which was well woven in the beginning, frays shortly after the first death with one of the main suspects getting killed first.

Nice little twist on the end. Too bad they couldn't deliver the middle game.

Parental guide: F-bomb. male rear nudity. Fully clothed sex...what was that about?

A terribly bad B-movie (Not B from Boobs)
peterp-450-29871622 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Sometimes one wonders why he has made the effort to start watching a particular film and how he could think it would be a pleasant time waster. "Death do us part " contains elements of a slasher film and a common mystery movie. But it contains all the worst elements. A group of young people going on stag weekend in a godforsaken place far from civilization . Of course you do that if you want to keep such a party and don't want anyone to witness the riotous festivities that will erupt there , I suppose. The cheerful couple who are going to give their consent the following week is Kennedy and Ryan. She is apparently the daughter of a wealthy family (with also a mental illness apparently), and he's some loser who has more to answer for than you may suspect . They are accompanied by the sister Hannah, a good friend Emily , Ryan's best man Chet and his cousin Derek who also has a rather dark past .

The welcome committee alone would already make me turn around and return to the civilization ASAP. Bo, the owner of the bungalow, is not exactly a paragon of kindness and is quite frightening and threatening. The dead starlings on the porch , he cleans up reluctantly with a spade after he concludes in an intelligent way that they are indeed dead . A terrible way to bring humor in this film , and it gave a good idea what was to follow . What ultimately was the purpose of these dead birds , I couldn't figure out . An attempt to make it lugubrious and mysterious perhaps? We can't really talk about performances. It's more like a failure in performing. The three main female characters were probably selected based on the weight of their breasts. The higher the weight, the more important the role. After a while I was even convinced that their cup-size effortlessly defeated their IQ in numbers. Totally unconvincing , and they looked like members of a youth movement running around in the threatening woods anxious and panicky.

The three male protagonists tried to be tough, except Chet who behaved throughout the film as a drunken fooler. Eventually they behaved like a bunch of sissies who are running back and forth through the woods and at every suspicious noise they react like real cowards. The moment they try to flee by car and they want to check the engine was hilarious. Eventually it becomes a "who-is-now-the-main suspect" game, where you'll be put on the wrong foot a huge amount of times. Bo is of course suspicious. The guy looks a bit like Lurch from "The Addams Family", and appears every time where you least expect it and saunters around with a dangerous looking ax. Eventually, you may expect a surprising plot and a not so surprising ending. Don't expect a real massacre. That was really a major disappointment.

Conclusion: A terribly bad B-movie that doesn't look like a slasher movie at all. No suspense, no gory murder scenes and a total lack of scares.

It had some laughs
devinwatson-663834 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Not especially good but this is just a silly slasher movie. It had a couple good little twists.

The frat guy might grow on you as the movie progresses despite some of his predictable behaviour. One of his pranks is hilarious and helped me forgive a Lot in the movie. Besides, a few of the other characters... I might become the killer if I were stuck with them out in the middle of nowhere.

Take a shot of something Hard every time the Groom tells a bald-faced lie to his Fiance's face. You might also want to add in a shot for every time Bo (the 200+ lb landlord/caretaker) appears suddenly out of thin air, silent like a njnja. You could swap the Bo shots for every time the weird druggy friend does something menacing or creepy. Don't use all three drinking metrics though or you will get blackout drunk.

Enjoy!

This is indeed a comedy!
timberwolf-033717 July 2021
I love thrillers and horror stuff but this movie was sooooo awful on all levels it made me laugh out loud. The other review was bang on accurate about their horrible acting!! It was soooooo bad you'll have to laugh. All their eyes rolling and popping and that's all they did for the horror scenes. And when a house has no power at night, you can't see anything, but apparently the director picked a magical house. Also running in the woods at night when there's light all around. Sorry, still yawning here. Definitely the worst horror movie in history. Plot twist? Really!? LOL.

Well..

If Hallmark tried making a thriller/horror,saying this as it was written & acted with actors from that network.

Granted have seen worse, but so typical of a story that it lacked originality.

The cinematography wasn't horrible, with overly bad lighting.

I have liked many actors in this from other shows, but honestly their acting didn't work for such an (attempted) genre.

Some writers or actors and vise versa, need to stick to doing things they are best at.

They could of used a better place or something, sadly a scary movie does not mean a dumpy wooded location.

Is this worth seeing? Sure passes time, that's about it or if you like any actors listed.

Must say if Hallmark is allowing more actors to write & produce or why many are branching out elsewhere,no wonder movies plus television are suffering with quality.

Bland, boring and pedestrian slasher
kannibalcorpsegrinder15 October 2016
Traveling out to the woods, a group of friends enjoying a pre- wedding party find their weekend of fun interrupted by not only a series of deep-rooted secrets but a maniacal killer picking them off one-by- one and must find a way of getting away alive.

This one here wasn't all that impressive of a slasher effort. The film's biggest misstep is the fact that this one goes off for the first half in turning into a rather pedestrian and wholly unworthwhile series of soap-opera style scenes here showing them getting together at the cabin. Not only does this have the series of incredibly bland setups with the group taking forever to get settled in which features them putting their stuff away but also going through the series of scenes showing the couples having their troubles which are so uninteresting and fill up so much screen-time that it really becomes unbearably boring and excruciating getting through here. Going through the adultery angle with the sister, the best friends' unrequited lesbian angle with each of the sisters and the brothers' money issues all are just so utterly unappealing and don't strike as the slightest bit interesting not only in just general terms of being a truly fun watch but it also manages to be quite a boring way to set-up the remaining part of the film where it turns into a nominal slasher since this doesn't come up as being in the slightest bit fun, engaging or enjoyable accomplishing this different type of set-up here leading into those slasher tropes. It's all quite a long time here going through this part of the film that in the end it's almost an hour before the first kill pops up because its spending all this time focusing on the boring and wholly unappealing soap opera work found here, and it's still not nearly enough to make the film overcome it's truly banal slasher-work found here. Not only is the main set-ups truly appalling with the short, barely-there stalking scenes that are over so quickly it's hard to pick out the actions within here but also just really making the film not that creepy or chilling despite the attempts at slashing. The endless running around the woods don't help matters, and it's really overall a pretty bland series of scenes that just makes for a troubling slasher effort overall. Coupled with the lack of rather startling gore, a wholly underwhelming mystery angle that's supposedly at the heart of the film and a criminal lack of sleaze and cheese that are tempted but never delivered upon, these here really hold this one back quite readily from what could've been. The only areas this one works at all is the actual slashing in the woods, for as bad as they are at manipulating the slasher elements here really ups the action and energy away from the banal soap-opera work before it and does deliver on some high-quantity kills in a cramped space which is quite welcomed. Still, it's got a lot of problems to readily overcome.

Rated R: Graphic Language, Graphic Violence, Brief Nudity and drug use.

Death Do Us Part
Scarecrow-888 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Basic mediocre slasher flick has shady Ryan and nervous wedding obsessed fiancé, Kennedy, driving with friends/acquaintances in SUV to wilderness cabin, rented after answering Craigslist ad from intense and brooding creep, Bo. Kennedy's sister, Hannah, is seen by Kennedy's gal pal, Emily, getting it from behind while hugging a tree from Ryan, realizing just how much of a mistake this marriage would be. Meanwhile Derrick, a chain-smoking, drug-dealing, no-good rotter from Ryan's past has came along, but his intentions are selfish and desperate: he needs 20 G's from Ryan and brings up past reckless behavior as a weapon to use against the upcoming marriage. Chet is the typical slasher booger with six pack abs, obnoxious frat boy self-serving sex-on-the-mind personality, always either aiming to get laid or goofing off. Emily really considers her friendship with Kennedy important and when she's told Ryan and her are moving to New York it doesn't go over well. Okay, the synopsis out of the way, this is very driven by providing a lot of plot and delivering very little in terms of exciting action. Ryan and Kennedy are doomed to fail and it's obvious from the get go. Yet the film spends an inordinate amount of time getting us to the implosion. Anyone besides naive Kennedy can see that Ryan is a prick. He's immediately spotlighted by the film as untrustworthy and scheming. That Derrick is a friend considering how much of a tool he is should tell others all they need to know. Hannah is jealous of Kennedy because daddy preferred her and purposely bangs Ryan out of spite. Emily is just waiting to spill the beans on that cruel union behind her buddy's back. Chet loves to scare the ladies or get in their pants. Bo lurks, snarls, and warns them not to party in his house...why these people decide to stay anyway is baffling. So a class act cast that start to fall prey to a killer, are taken out one at a time, and few will care. Fingers from a hand are chopped off and bodies are stabbed but the graphic violence is not shot or explicitly nauseating. This doesn't kill them as many viewers might desire considering how much time is spent with them before the killer emerges. I think the film follows closely to how slashers are, complete with red herring and unsurprising twist of who the killer really is. Because the camera drives towards a certain character but doesn't show her die, and how Bo is even shown with ax in hand, but never killing anybody, the direction of the film goes through the motions slasher fans see right through. If anyone believes that woman in the dress at the beginning is Kennedy should watch more slashers.

It's so bad, it's good!
dobraashe13 November 2020
I thoroughly enjoyed this easy to watch campy horror comedy. Synopsis: A group of Hallmark movie type characters go to a cabin and meet a slasher. Review: The over acting, exaggerated eye movements, obvious plot holes, and poor editing were laugh out loud funny! The continuity errors were so noticeable, I wonder if they were deliberate - like in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. With the right expectations, this movie is a fun time!

Better than I thought it would be.
lizzybruck29 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I have been in a horror movie rut for the past few months with watching one low budget flop after the next. When this movie began with the two cops talking About the "victim" while not even standing a foot from her, like she wasn't even there, I thought I stumbled upon another terrible movie but it turned around and I ended up being pleasantly surprised and shockingly caught off guard with the surprise ending, which hasn't happened to me in a Very long time.

I'll start off with the faults. The biggest by Far being the writing. The script was all over the place and conversations were not believable in the slightest. This group of friends had zero chemistry and for supposed long time friends and even 2 sisters, it seemed like they Just met...And no one Liked anyone!! The characters were completely one dimensional with the "frat boy" Chet who only cares about partying and getting laid, the "bad boy" who is deep in debt, drug addicted, creepy and can't go two minutes without lighting up a smoke, the "good guy" who appears to be in charge at first but I guessed within minutes was really an asshole...I know he turned out Not to be the killer but his character was obvious from the beginning, the "jealous sister", the "ditzy blond" and rounding out the cast, the "oblivious good girl" who predictably couldn't figure anything out. Let's not forget the "creepy guy" caretaker dude who's only purpose was to distract really dumb people from the true killer.

I Loathe movies where secrets are kept for no good reason and this one was full of them. The dialogue was ridiculous and not believable in any way so that annoyed me throughout.

Another fault was this was a horror/slasher film where most of the "killing" took place off screen which was a huge let down. I could pick apart the set or what they thought looked good enough to be blood but I'm not gonna go there.

Now to what I liked. The acting was good. Surprisingly good considering the lines they had to work with! The cast Looked like they could be friends in real life (until they spoke). There were jump scares that got me, even when I knew they were coming. The camera work over all was very good except in some cut away "death" scenes, and the music and sound effects weren't bad either.

The Best part of the movie was the first surprise ending. When the good girl came out in her wedding gown (which I was shaking my head at WHY she changed into that) and ditzy girl came out of the woods I thought that good guy was gonna have to miraculously rise from the dead somehow to kill ditzy to make the beginning work...so I was Actually shocked when ditzy turned out to be the killer after all. My mind did race at the probability of this happening and I found myself itching to re watch Immediately to see if it was possible, and That makes it a Good surprise in my books. The Second surprise ending with ditzy coming back to life, killing good girl, getting dressed in her wedding gown, and then killing the cop, should have been left on the cutting room floor. Not needed, not wanted and put a Ton of new questions in my head.

Overall, it was a decent watch. If much more time was spent on the writing it would have rated a lot higher for me.

Felt like the reviews were a bit off on this film..
gottabstace26 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Here's my take on it.

To classify it as a horror//thriller is misleading.. it's like a couple of genres in one film. It starts out really funny, dry British humour, dark comedy with a slight horror element. Then it took a very romantic type turn in the middle and finally turned into a romantic drama film. So, definitely incongruous with the horror/thriller title.. despite there being infrequently seen zombies. This film is really all about the couples relationship. And the ending was naff.

But, there were many redeeming qualities.. the first half is really funny if you're into dry humour , and the acting was pretty decent. I just personally really dislike romance films, so it lost me near the end.
