It’s happening; it’s finally happening! Sony Pictures Television announced that it is adapting the Wheel of Time book series. Sony, Red Eagle Entertainment and Radar Pictures will co-produce the series. Rafe Judkins will write and executive produce. Judkins’ credits include ABC’s Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D., Netflix’s Hemlock Grove, and NBC’s Chuck. Red Eagle’s Rick Selvage and Larry Mondragon will also serve as executive producers as well as Radar’s Ted Field and Mike Weber. Harriet McDougal, books series writer Robert Jordan’s widow, will serve as consulting producer.

It’s been a long and meandering road for the adaptation of Robert Jordan (real name: James O. Rigney Jr) fantasy epic The Wheel of Time. The 14-part novel series, which concluded with the release of A Memory of Light in 2007, has flirted with the small screen before when Jordan’s widow, Harriet McDougal, revealed that the legendary property had landed at a major Hollywood studio.
We now know that studio to be Sony, and we understand the company has partnered with Red Eagle Entertainment and Radar Pictures to do good on that initial vision. First reported by Variety, and later confirmed by IGN, the serialized spin on Wheel of Time has appointed Rafe Judkins (Agents of Shield, Chuck, Hemlock Grove) to write and produce, with Harriet McDougal on board as a consulting producer. The importance of her involvement can’t be overstated, either, given McDougal served as an editor...

An adaptation of the Robert Jordan fantasy novel series Wheel of Time is finally moving forward with Sony Pictures Television. This project has been in and out of development since the year 2000, but now it's going to happen as a TV series.
There's an abundance of content to adapt as there are 14 novels in the series that began in 1990 with "The Eye of the World" and ended in 2007 with "A Memory of Light". The story follows the quest to find the Dragon Reborn, who it is said will help unite forces to combat The Dark One. Here's a brief description:
Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time is a story that takes place both in our past and our future. In his fantasy world, the Dark One, the embodiment of pure evil, is breaking free from his prison. The overall plot is about a man who learns that he is the...

2.9 Home Again
After spending two episodes embodying what Evil Dead isn’t, it was time to get back to the basics. And that’s what Home Again is all about if you can’t already tell that from the reading the title with your own two eyes. We take a trip back in time, via an evil Necronomicon-powered time portal that Ash forces Ruby to open up by reading the incantations written on Pablo’s cold dead skin, to the year 1982. Ash wants to stop himself from ever picking up that god forsaken Book of the Dead and start reading random words out of it.

This week, I watched The Quick And The Dead all the way through for the first time ever. The funny thing is, I owned it on DVD once. It’s one of those movies you mean to get around to watching one day, but I was never in the mood for a Western unless it was full-on spaghetti, so I wouldn’t make it past the first half hour or so. After sitting through its entirety with rapt and (mostly) undivided attention, I realize now that it’s one of Sam Raimi’s greatest achievements as a director. This review contains spoilers.
2.1 Home
The recent ubiquity of reboots and belated sequels has rightly bred a bit of cynicism towards resurrecting long dormant franchises, and when Ash Vs Evil Dead debuted last year it was easy to be somewhat suspicious. Sure, the pedigree was all there, but would the irreverent, anarchic mayhem of the Evil Dead films translate to episodic television? And would a character like Ash Williams actually work over a sustained amount of time?
As it turns out, Ash Vs Evil Dead is in many ways a masterclass in how to do these sorts of things right. It respected the past while looking to the future, it gave you everything you loved about its source material along with new and unexpected elements and it presented an...

Ash vs. Evil Dead has had an absolutely remarkable debut season, and everything we’ve seen so far has been building up to the season’s end. Let’s take a look at the season one finale, “The Dark One.” As I usually do with reviews of finales, I’m going to keep this one as spoiler-lite as possible. The episode opens with our cast in some pretty dire situations. Kelly is trying to get the Necronomicon’s face off of Pablo, Ash is arguing with the book’s author, Ruby, and the tourist girl is stunned by the return of Deadite Amanda. In the ensuing chaos,

If last week’s episode asked us who Ash Williams really is, then this week’s finale gave us the definitive answer that we’ve known all along; he’s an idiot. A simple, none-too-bright guy who makes mistake after mistake due to his own inability to think things through or see beyond his own desires. He is, on paper, singularly unsuited to be a hero. And yet, he means well. Does that sound like damning him with faint praise? It’s not meant to. Ash vs Evil Dead, Season 1, Episode 10, “The Dark One”
Written by Craig Digregorio
Directed by Rick Jacobson
Airs Saturdays at 9pm (Et) on Starz
The first season of Ash vs Evil Dead comes to a close with an episode bordering on greatness before offering an ineffectual shrug of an ending. “The Dark One” has a lot going for it: Ash (Bruce Campbell) and recently revealed “big bad” Ruby (Lucy Lawless) finally go head to head, the stakes the show have set up feel serious enough to cause tension, and episode director Rick Jacobson ratchets up the visual insanity. Jacobson’s direction here is the closest the show has come yet to accurately capturing original franchise director Sam Raimi’s gonzo style: quick, violent cuts that come in bursts, titled angles, horror that comes as a result of overwhelming lunacy. There’s even a nice Three Stooges moment, where Ash attempts...

In a way the arc of the season feels like the pilot was dunking your head into ice water, taking it out, then submerging your entire body over the next nine episodes. We got an explosive taste of what the show would be like, followed by a season that slowly ratcheted up the extremity and frequency of gore. And suddenly seeing one of the main characters being held aloft, impaled through her gut by a chainsaw as she cackles in demonic ecstasy, is just one of like 15 crazy things you’re yelling “Oh Jesus!” at in a single episode. “The Dark One,” this season’s final episode, throws so much crazy shit at you it’s hard to even catch your breath until Wham, suddenly we’re dropped back in the Delta 88, taking a leisurely road trip down to Jacksonville. But how did we get here?In a chaotic flurry...

The Dark One's plan has finally been revealed! Tonight's double episode of Once Upon a Time achieved a whole lot, and not all of it is very happy, especially if you're still invested in a certain couple involving a pirate and a so-called savior. In the first hour, Emma's plan was finally explained: She had intended to transfer her darkness into a post-baby Zelena then get rid of her once and for all with Excalibur. That sounds like a nice plan and all, especially after she had sped up Zelena's pregnancy to get her baby girl out a few (seven) months early, but that's not the only thing Emma's done. In a battle at Camelot, Hook was nicked by Excalibur, and Emma did...

Ready for a history lesson, Once Upon a Time-style? "Nimue" is essentially The Dark One and Excalibur 101, as flashbacks reveal how Merlin got his magic, how the first Dark One was created and how Excalibur came to be.
While only a few minutes are actually spent in present-day Storybrooke, they are a very important few minutes. Most of the episode is spent in flashbacks, whether it's the missing time in Camelot or the time Merlin spent before he was a tree.

ABC's "Once Upon a Time" Season 4 ended with the name "Emma Swan" shown on the Dark One's Dagger. So now our main hero, The Savior, is also The Dark One. That should be interesting, dearies...
