Hal gets a job
Tweekums20 February 2012
Warning: Spoilers
As the household is getting short of money Annie and Tom tell Hal that he will have to get a job and contribute if he is to stay there. He isn't impressed with this idea but eventually agrees and ends up working in a burger bar with Tom; it is not the way he expected to be spending his time; after all he isn't any old vampire; he is one of The Old Ones! The work is mundane and the people who go there aren't the most interesting people around; even if some like Michaela think they are. She believes that she is 'dark' and will one day be a renowned poet; she does not to be in a burger bar when it is attacked by vampires and only get away alive because she is rescued by another vampire and a werewolf. They manage get back home but when they get there they find Annie preparing to leave with Eve after another warning from Regus. There is of course a problemÂ… the vampires find them and by the time the confrontation is over Michaela's life will never be the same again.

This was a decent episode with just the right mix of frights and laughs. Damien Molony did a fine job as Hal; it was interesting to learn more about his character; it came as quite a surprise when it was revealed that he was one of the Old Ones. I recently saw Mark Williams in 'Hustle' and wasn't too impressed; thankfully he is much better here playing Regus; the scene where he made Annie show him one of her sexual memories was hilarious! Laura Patch's performance as Michaela was pretty good even if the character could be a little annoying at times. I wasn't sure how good this series would be now that Mitchell and George were gone but it has still got what it takes to keep me entertained.

Fantastic episode

Warning: Spoilers
Well this series is the most promising yet. There were so many laughs and memorable lines we had to watch it again to hear what we had missed. Hal is wonderfully acted - the 5 min prequel showing his early days with Leo is a must on the website - and has both a troubled presence and a voice strongly reminiscent of Russell Crowe! I predict Damien Moloney will be a big star. I loved the honest, decent and, yes, dog-like virtues of Tom developing here and our dear Annie whose range of facial expressions can convey so much. Mark Williams is excellent as usual and will no doubt be popping up again but I did miss the promising "They've eaten my focus group" Cutler in this episode. The humour and originality of Annie's memory was delicious - I have always felt that there was something illogical about the Pensieve in Harry Potter and here they blast is open to hilarious effect! Well done to Fergus too - he was developing well (though Herrick is a hard act to follow)... I loved the earlier series and characters but feel no guilt in relishing this second 'incarnation' (pace Annie). Looking forward to the rest of the series.
