Absorbing series until the DA character ruined it with 2023 claptrap
jah-9719726 July 2023
This series was great for how it steadfastly, and skillfully depicted the manner and demeanor of late 1970's behavior, attitudes, speech, styles and music. I know.. I lived it. Then, in episode 7 comes along a DA who refused the defense plea to let Danny go to a mental hospital. In so doing, a fast talking diatribe which she virtually reads from a cue card written by a 2023 leftist about how I can't let him off so easily... "with all the black and brown people" in these prisons... In 1979 no one spoke like that. That is pure 21st century cliche burble. Not saying the sentiment is wrong, just repulsed by the obligatory blather of the current day that infiltrates everything. And in this case, absolutely ruined the near perfect depiction of time and place and cutting edge psychological and legal turmoil of the day, But as always, some leftist with a keyboard and an agenda had to ruin, if not destroy, the entire 7 episode portrayal to that point. Boom. Gone. Wayback machine obliterated.

The left loves to destroy. That's what they do. Its how they get their jollies. They are the Yitzhak and the Marlin of this passion play: Angry, violent and deviant, at a level that can drive you crazy, dare I say...

Warning: Spoilers
As we say in the UK, Tom's accent is rather good. But this episode "jumped the shark" it's good, but the personalities all getting together was a bit daft, I have never heard of all the personalities working together to help the main person. All that I have seem each personality wants to be the one who takes over , I have never heard of them all sitting round having a chat that's a new one on me And the drug-dealer did not know that Danny loves to draw? Really? So when they are in this room, I take it they have no communication with Danny and what he does, or wait but they are all in the Crowded Room are they not? Talking about protecting him and the druggie gets him beaten up, how's that work?

This episode don't make sense, if his mind wants to protect him why tell him to go to jail?

The mind is a crazy thing, I used to help people with phobic's we had this rugby player who had this fear of flowers, it was destroying his life, people laughed at him. But it turned out that as a young boy he jumped into a flower patch and a wasp was not happy and stung him. So his mind every-time he saw flowers, went into panic mode as it remembered the pain the crying the hurt.

How nuts is that, Once his mind allowed him to remember the incident and the pain, the phobic was gone, just like that.

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 7 of The Crowded Room is the best episode, providing new perspectives on Danny's condition and humanizing him. Tom Holland's performance in this episode is remarkable, as he effectively channels Danny's helplessness in the final moments. The show is a story of two halves, with the first episode leaving viewers feeling uninterested, but the sudden seriousness in the second has piqued their interest. The Crowded Room may have a glowing end that none of us anticipated. In Episode 7, The Crowded Room follows an eclipse that leaves residents of NY in wonder. The episode explores the possibility of Danny being reborn in his own eyes, Rya confronting him with the truth about himself, and the reactions of Danny when he learns the truth. The episode also features a CCTV recording from a jewelry store near Rockefeller Center, as Danny's trial approaches. Rya's impatience and doubts about Danny's trustworthiness contribute to the story. Danny is the only person who shoots the gun and chases Marlin, despite Ariana's absence. When Yitzhak asks Danny to sleep, he firmly takes over and tells Rya she made a big mistake. The episode cuts to Danny in a field watching the eclipse and discovering a barn-like structure. He stumbles upon a room with Yitzhak, Jack, Jonny, and Mike together, creating a surreal moment. They discuss the mistake and Yitzhak's active role, but Danny is fast asleep and the discussion continues. In the real world, Yitzhak warns Rya about her actions, and Mike intervenes to calm the guards. Danny is taken away by Mike, who calls Rya a liar. Jack and Yitzhak discuss the system's breakdown and Rya's liarity. When Danny wakes up, it seems Jonny has taken over, but he gets into trouble when he jokingly asks an inmate for coke. Yitzhak takes over, and Danny destroys him. The guards confront Danny, and Jack takes over, almost like a baton being passed on to him. He is run down by the guards before he can speak. Stan and Rya attend a pre-trial hearing at a courthouse, where Rya doubts their chances of convincing the judge of Danny's illness. They sit down with Dr. Whitman and DA Patricia Richardson, who rejects Rya's thesis. Danny is brought in, and Rya's British accent makes him appear to be Mike or Jonny. The judge dismisses Rya's claims. Stan tries to enter a plea bargain with Patricia, but she cites pressure from her bosses and the fact that young black and brown inmates did worse than Danny. Rya reprimands Jack for his ruse and warns him that a Federal Prison would break Danny. Mike and Yitzhak believe Rya's advice might have merit. Danny needs to stand on his own feet, and Jack shoots Yitzhak, disappearing from the room. Danny wakes up to find Ariana next to him. Ariana and Jack reveal that they live for Danny, taking over when he is in trouble or needs to connect with others. They explain that Danny created the dead people as "undesirables" who have no purpose. They explain that they came into being due to Marlin's sexual assault on Danny, which caused him to split into separate personalities. They try to convince Danny that Rya wants to kill them, and if they die, he will die as well. They convince Danny to maintain distance from Rya and not plead insanity, which may lead to a decision that will haunt him for the rest of his life. Rya confronts Danny at Rikers and criticizes Jack for making her fool. She learns Danny is in control and asks for help, expressing reassurance. Rya's reassuring words may be enough.

Great episode but disgusted.

Warning: Spoilers
As an expert in mental health, an someone who has studied Identity Disorder, I can say it's an episode with accurate key points; historically the disorder has been an "unbelievable hysteria" because wasn't a lot of research at the time, and some psychologist use to think this disorder wasn't different from a delirium episode, but time has showed this mental condition changes the way the person get in touch with other people, time an places.

The performance of Tom being Danny it's okay to illustrate how can someone feel in this kind of moments, alone, and confused about how to manage his life.

The bad: an alter NEVER will kill or shut down for ever to another ALTER as is showed here, this the kind of fake ideas made for TV/Movie entertainment. I think the last thing we need to think about this kind of TV shows is that we are watching SPLIT movie, again.

The changes from alter to alter, are not that fast, and can cause fatigue in the host or the "person" in control, the way Jitzack defends himself from other guys it's also fictional, the strength is not changed by the alter, the perception of strength about the body changes, but you won't get 5 times stronger after a quick switch.

Hope more TV shows change the "huge-superpowers sensationalism" to create drama and suspense, an instead reach a bit more about this kind of disorder and trauma.

By the way, use Pink Floyd songs: I get it, it sounds cool because it's an artist from the same time 70's, and the song talks about "loose the mind". But this song it's more about "schizophrenia" not about "multiple identity", (VERY DIFFERENT MENTAL STATES) this was irrespective from the producers or who did choose how to ensamble the timeline of this episode.
