Suspenseful, clever, unique, surprising, and a lot better than i had thought is was going to be.
kbmphoto26 April 2013
I watch a lot of movies, and I really feel like I see the same crap over and over. Well a friend was telling me that I should check out this low budget movie, and first when you hear low budget you think that it may now hold up to movies that have multi millions of $ spent one them. Let me tell you, I really enjoyed it though, and it was a gr8 surprise. When it started I thought I was in for another horror story, there was the classic beauty, and mysterious crimes going on, but you were never quit sure what specifically was happening. So the mystery element started to evolve in the plot, and you are not quite sure what is going on with these crimes that keep happening you just felt on the edge of your seat ready to see what happens next. Also the acting was top notch, and the director was able to pull together some great performances. It made me think back on what Quinten Teritino was able to accomplish in Reservoir Dogs. It was that kind of gritty movie, gun fights, action, and all of the above kind of movie. Plus it was pulled off in a way that was very convicting given the budget. The best part was the ending and how the director was able to pull everything together. Really good, for sure worth checking out.

Poor film, with bad writing and direction
iraz14 May 2013
This film just came out on video on demand. I always check films on web sites before deciding whether to watch it. IMDb is probably the site I check the most. When I saw that this film had a 7.0 rating with more than a couple of people who rated it and the user and critical reviews(except for one) were positive, my decision was made. It also won awards at several film festivals.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with the one negative review and assume the people involved with this film had many friends willing to rate it very high. It has the look of a low quality film. The story telling is way below par as is the direction. The acting is amateurish and there is nothing I would recommend here. It cannot make up its mind what kind of film it is - a ghost story or one about corrupt cops? I am sure it will attract an audience based on the rating, however I would fully expect this rating to go way down as more legitimate viewers watch this mess.

Nice surprise from what I feel is an up and coming Director
hlbaum22 February 2013
I love movies, big budget and small. For me, there are times when the flash, bling, gadgets, explosions and CG just overpower a film and take away from the story line rather than add to it. To me Deadline was a pleasant surprise of what can still be accomplished on a shoe string budget given the right cast, crew and of course story line. When I first saw Deadline I really didn't know the cast that well. Low and behold shortly after viewing the film I started realizing that I have seen many of the actors on both the large and small screen. Two of them just recently went on to do the new TV series Chicago Fire Deadline does an amazing job of setting the viewer up right until the last minute. This movie sucked me into the plot as I became comfortable with the actors on the screen. Suspense, horror, a little bit of blood and shooting always get my attention when not just done for shock value. The solid performances by the actors and the addition of suspense kept me intrigued from beginning to end. The cast and crew did an incredible job of making a solid motion picture that will be enjoyed by the big blockbuster fans to the purists who prefer the indies. It will be interesting to see how the writer/Director does with his sophomore effort as there is plenty of room and reason to keep his cameras rolling.

A Convoluted Mess, Plain and Simple
gavin69427 February 2013
Kyle and Sarah are starting a life together in a renovated house in Hollywood Hills, on the same property where the original house burned-down a decade earlier with its owner vanished...

There are any number of problems with this film. I could talk about the poor acting (especially from screen veteran Gary Hudson) or the poor effects. I could discuss the slow pacing of what could have been an exciting action or horror film. I could complain of the gratuitous nudity (the woman in the opening scene must have the world's dirtiest chest for how long she stands there massaging herself).

But, really, this comes down to one big problem: a script that has no narrative and no attempt at a linear plot. Is it a story about two corrupt cops? Is it a story about a couple who move into a house that was built on top of the ashes of a murder site? Somehow the story wants to be both, but actually tells us neither. By spending so much time on the cops, we learn very little about the haunting. And even with the cops, we never really get he full story on why they are corrupt (and how they do not get caught for such cavalier actions).

And why is the wife a best-selling author who is going to go on a book tour and has writer's block? She is never shown writing, nor does her job factor in to the story. Why are we shown murders of two random friends or the forensics guy and his wife? We could hear about the forensics guy, and the friends really did not matter at all. The forensics guy was completely miscast, by the way -- he looked far too young.

As I writing this rambling response to this film, I have in the back of my mind that the IMDb rating is 6.6 -- much higher than the average movie. This suggests to me that only the director's friends have rated the film and once the general public sees it, it will plummet to a 2 or 3. And somehow the movie won a few film festival awards. Sure, none of these are film festivals that actually matter, even among independent film junkies, but to win this means that the competition was even worse. God forbid those other films ever see the light of day.

Is this the worst film ever made? Far from it. That honor goes to "Hell's Threshold". And, to be fair, I have seen enough horror films to know that this is not even in the top 10% of worst films. But it is pretty bad, and I understand why it has waited two years to find distribution. I just wish it had stayed hidden -- no one can watch this and find any enjoyment in it.

Good cop is really bad cop, and he's COMING FOR YOU!

Warning: Spoilers
DeadLine had a lot of creativity, and had me at the edge of my seat. I thought Chris Tasara did a solid job directing each moment perfectly. The locations were gorgeous, and the cast was great. The tiger from "The Hangover" was scary as hell! This movie clearly has great production value. DeadLine has a very gripping, and thrilling story line. There was an amazing amount of mystery, and I feel as though this movie is now set up for an even better sequel. Suspense, Drama, and Action = DeadLine. This movie could be watched with "the guys" and "the girls." Excited to see what this brilliant writer/director has in-store for us next.

Mystery, action thriller
clwestend24 May 2014
This is a suspenseful entertaining movie and Is very well thought out and directed for a low budget movie.. It keeps you on the edge of your seat . It's a movie for anyone that loves a bit of mystery and action. The performances were by the actors well casted and directed. I highly recommend this movie and I hope Chris Tasara would come out with a deadline 2!! His locations were perfect, and the house had a creepy feeling from the very start.. The music made it more intense . If you don't believe in ghosts this movie makes you feel it! Beautiful house but I would be afraid to live there! Great story, and creatively plotted out.. Worth watching on a Saturday night with some friends!

Great Movie
raajd18 May 2014
The movie was really great, suspenseful and very shocking at the end. Recommended to those who love Murder Mystery and Supernatural films. At first I thought I was not going to like it I'm glad I gave it a chance. I've watched quite a lot thrillers in the past, and I must say, this is a must-see movie! I would recommend this to anyone! I'm very glad I bought this one! Hope to see some more movies like these in the future. It was definitely worth the watch. The Deadline was a much more "sophisticated" horror film from those I've watched in the past which made it more believable. It was full of unexpected action as well as suspense which kept me on the edge of my seat and the story line kept me guessing. I was impressed with the cast and their performances as well. It made me think back on what Quentin Tarantino was able to accomplish in "Reservoir Dogs". It was that kind of gritty movie, gun fights, action, and all of the above kind of movie. Plus it was pulled off in a way that was very convicting given the budget. The best part was the ending and how the director was able to pull everything together. Really good, for sure worth checking out.

More than a sum of it's parts
marcdjcooper24 February 2013
After having my copy of Deadline sit around for over a year, and then finding out the film pick up it's 13th award (to date), I thought it was time to see what all the fuss was about...

And I can tell you, Deadline is worthy of all the buzz it's been generating. It's a mystery/ psychological thriller that succeeds on so many levels. It shows just what can be achieved on a limited budget, when a creative script meets a talented cast a crew.

The story-line is tight, and the acting sharp. The technical aspects of the movie, particularly the lighting and soundtrack choices, really help to increase the mood of the film. It's creepy!

Deadline doesn't boast a big name cast, and didn't blow it's budget on elaborate special effects, but the production value obtained does allows it to tell the story very well.

Overall, Deadline is much more than the sum of it's parts. If you enjoy these types of movies, you'll definitely appreciate the work that went into it, and the final product output.

Roll on the sequel...

Deadline delivers satisfying endorphin driven entertainment from start to finish.
caroline-q-nguyen16 June 2013
Entertainment That Satisfies

I usually bore within the first 15 minutes of most movies from most genres , no doubt a by- product of being a movie addict. While I am always hopeful to be entertained, I am usually left wanting more -- like when you can't have that last bite of your ice cream cone.

But in this case, Deadline left me satiated. In fact, I was annoyed that I wasn't able to stop watching in order to catch up on my paperwork as I often do while watching movies.

Deadline fixated my whole attention span from start to finish. It was a bizarre, thought- provoking and very entertaining movie. To box it only into a single 'horror' genre is almost negligent. Deadline also delivers solid elements of: crime drama, suspense thriller, social commentaries regarding the homeless, drug lords/terrorists, prostitution, police corruption, drug addiction, animal rights, all interlaced within sexy romantic interludes and very cool special effects.

I couldn't even accurately describe this movie to my friends so I simply told them to watch it. I promised that Deadline would deliver full entertainment value.

To me, 'entertainment' should be the core objective of any movie. An entertaining movie can skillfully transport you into another world so that you don't even remember that you have work to finish, bills to pay, and worries to stress over.

Truly entertaining movies offer us the relief and freedom from our everyday lives and worries --- and I believe most of us need and appreciate that.

When a movie can offer me the level of escapism that stimulates my brain and generates endorphins, I not only get that last bite of the ice cream cone, I get the whole enchilada!

Fun and entertaining movie that gets your heart racing at times.
amy-sowers7 March 2013
This movie is a ninety minute break from reality that gets you on on the edge of your seat at times while mixing in some laughs. The characters are developed just right without being overly developed...in this type of action/suspense flick I don't expect background details and the underlying psychology of each and every character to give me insight on reactions and motivations. I also really enjoyed the way the sounds and music added to suspense and tension; it reminded me of an 80's horror/suspense flick in that respect. The story line has multiple dimensions that blend really well together as well. Overall fun and entertaining..I would recommend it to any action/suspense fan.

Deadline- A must see!
xkailienicole27 May 2013
For a low budgeted movie, DEADLINE actually turned out to be a really good movie. When I first heard about it, I did not know much about the movie but after watching it, I would definitely recommend it to others. It was very suspenseful and mysterious with all the added effects and especially the music. The cast and crew did an excellent job putting this movie together. The locations were stunning and the lighting was on spot! The house used to film the movie was absolutely gorgeous. It played out the setting perfectly. Deadline will keep you on your feet with all it's shocking twists and turns especially at the end. It had a thought provoking plot and it was super creative. The director, Chris Tasara, did an amazing job with it! This movie was thrilling and keeps you wanting more, waiting to see what would happen next. It wasn't any typical scary movie because the storyline was so interesting and mind boggling. The actors and actresses played their characters so well which made it seem so believable. Deadline was action-filled with a "horror" twist and lots of suspense! Don't miss out on this great movie! It's definitely worth checking out!

Deadline
aabatteries12329 May 2013
I watched this movie with a group of friends when we didn't have anything better to do on a Saturday night. We picked this one at random and found that is was a pretty good choice. The first scene is really good because it really makes you want to watch the whole movie, not for kids under 13. Even though this a low-budget thriller the cast was exceptionally skilled at doing there jobs and keeping us the audience on our toes. One thing that I will really praise this movie, is the music. The music is super duper suspenseful and always keeps you on the edge of your seat, your always thinking 'expect the unexpected' when watching this. The movie was pretty short and i was expecting sub plots but, this straight forward and intense. This movie contains a ton of action, blood, gore and kick-ass scenes plus its fun to watch with a girl, the music keeps ready to yell. So overall good movie and worth the time to check out, for a low-budget film it succeeded my expectations. If you like mystery/ thrillers this is a must, and the craziest part is that its based of real events, so if you don't like ghosts and all this is a must watch.

For all thriller and mystery genre fans, please do not let some of the other bad reviews keep you from watching this movie, judge it for yourself! I am sure you will find it very entertaining just as I did. It makes for a perfect Saturday night movie. Just grab yourself a bag of popcorn and you'll be good to go! A+ to Deadline!

Low budget? No problem!
frap-farrales29 May 2013
Wow! When I first heard about Deadline I was expecting it to be a typical horror movie, but I was completely wrong! It actually turned out to be a good movie! I like the suspense and the horror mix along with it. I like how the story goes and the music was really cool and adds a whole lot to the composition of the movie. The actors were on top of their game and was great throughout the whole movie. The suspense kept my blood running really fast and my heart beat like crazy! The plot was amazingly unexpected. The dirty bad cops and their schemes made their investigation so believable and the way they take advantage of their job is mind-blowing. Also, the couples' house was really beautiful! The main characters were amazing in their role and they played it really well. And the antagonist was really great too! He also played the role really well. The setting was perfect for the movie. There were no times I got bored while watching Deadline. This movie proves that even with a low budget, a great movie can be produced.

Must see movie of the year
Kaylanakayama4 June 2013
Deadline was a climatic gripping story that appeals to anyone Who like scary movies. Although it is a low budget film it defiantly wasn't perceived like one. The location, actors, story line and action packed scenes, we all directed perfectly to a T. The house of the film really complimented all of the scenes that were required to make you jump. The characters did a fantastic job with acting out their roles. In many horror movies many scenes are predictable but in Deadline most of the scenes were unpredictable, causing you to jump from your seat. This is the best low budgeted film I have ever watched, if you're looking for a movie that will give you goose bumps, keep you on your toes, with action packed scenes and wanting more, then watch Deadline its the movie for you. Honestly I cannot describe how good this movie was, whether you like scary movies or not Deadline is the must see movie of the low budgeted film. Chris Tasara, the director of Deadline did a fantastic job with picking the perfect actors and actresses for their parts. Chris Tasara did an amazing job with taking what he had for his script and putting it in a movie. His use of different angles and special effects really pulled the movie together. The dramatic and climatic scenes gave the real essence of a horror movie. The music he added to the movie added the final touch to the amazing movie called Deadline.

Suspenseful and entertaining
cfuston-111 June 2013
I'm typically not a horror/thriller movie fan, but the preview drew me in and it was definitely worth the watch. The Deadline was a much more "sophisticated" horror film from those I've watched in the past which made it more believable. It was full of unexpected action as well as suspense which kept me on the edge of my seat. It was shot in an amazing location, the characters were developed just enough, and the story line kept me guessing. I was impressed with the cast and their performances as well. It was entertaining and gave me the break from reality I was looking for. The Deadline is worth checking out if you need a horror film fix without too much blood and gore.

A definite must!
kkhs_keiki2830 May 2013
Deadline will keep you up all night! This movie gives you an adrenaline rush and keeps you on edge the whole time! The plot is well thought out and will keep you guessing. In the movie a couple realizes that their new home has a strange past and it begins to come after them. A lot of supernatural things take place throughout the movie that will make you jump. With all of the recent occurrences they question what really happened and begin to dig deeper bringing in a whole new conflict that will keep you wondering. This movie is packed with a lot of exciting action especially with the dirty cops that come into play. the murder case of the previous house owners will make you curious until the very end. This low-budget movie is quite an impressive production and the scenes are well executed. The special effects make for an intense scary movie and the actors are very skilled. The director of this movie did an amazing job and had me sold. It easily deserves a ten out of ten and a high recommendation. Deadline is a definite must see for all of the horror and action movie goers out there!

Deadline is a must see movie!
trevor_lee2326 May 2013
The Deadline is a movie that will definitely keep you on your feet! It is a suspenseful movie with tons of action and keeps you wondering what's next. This low-budgeted horror movie ended up being exciting and tense throughout the whole movie. When I first heard about this movie, I didn't think much of it, but once I started watching it I was actually very surprised on how well directed this movie was. The couple living in the haunted house and the dirty cops did a great job acting their specific parts in this movie. Deadline really made me think throughout the whole time as I was trying to figure out who the real murderer really was. The ending was a thriller as it made me jump out of my seat after finding out who committed the homicide of the person whose remains were in the house. I think this movie really separates itself from other horror movies as it has more of a plot than most scary movies that I've seen! The director did a remarkable job picking out a perfect house to film it at because it really fit the horror scenes with the dim lighting. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes mystery action thrillers! A must-see movie.
