I enjoyed this quite a lot more than I expected to. Obviously, though, this first episode is far from groundbreaking. The story is predictable, the characters are all pretty obvious archetypes and even the central narrative of the show itself doesn't seem to offer much originality- But it does everything it does quite well. It's really nice to watch an anime with an optimistic, lighthearted tone that doesn't feel like it was dumbed down to be just for kids, and this pilot certainly feels like that. Also, oh my god, the music- It's worth watching for that alone. So, yeah. This pilot isn't great, and it's far from groundbreaking or strikingly original, but if anything, it's a fun time, and a refreshingly lighthearted one, at least for me.

Warning: Spoilers
I just want to start by saying I love this show. This episode was a good opening for character development of the main character (Gon) and watching Leorio in the boat was entertaining.
However most of this episode is dialogue and pretty boring however it was not all bad as character introductions were good. The start of this tv show was not as good as the later episodes so if you found it boring just keep watching. This episode was a warm opening and Gon was hilarious as usual.
Summary: Gon wants to take a hunter exam to try and find his dad who also became a hunter at the same age as him (12 years old) so he gets his aunts permission to go and then he encounters the first challenge on a boat and then in the end arrives at the dock of the island which has the exam.

Great start and first chapter with a colorful animation and a great aura of adventure without a doubt invites you to follow the story, somewhat rushed but quite effective a quite beautiful adaptation although it omits several things,or manga details that we will notice later.
However, leaving all this aside, it is an effective first chapter for a series of adventures that little by little will change its tone.
The drama is left a bit aside by the direction of the anime to make it fun and colorful and the result is very correct Hunter x Hunter has a solid and concise start and more so considering that it is a classic shonen.

A solid enough start

I've heard great things about Hunter x Hunter, and am completely new to it. I like the way it looks, right away - nice and colorful, and this world seems like one that will more than justify 100+ episodes, because it already feels pretty epic in scope.
I can't say this is as powerful an opening episode as some other great shows - anime or otherwise - I've seen before, but with so many episodes, it's okay if things start off a little slow. The characters are endearing, there are some already interesting things set up here, and it's been blending comedy/fantasy/adventure well right from the get-go. Interested to see where it goes.
