Bring on the guest stars!

'Cut Ties' has an interesting switch between Raylan and Art; the former taking an unusually diplomatic approach to his work, while the latter isn't afraid to dirty his hands. To see Art using his fists to extract information is completely unexpected, but it's a treat to see Nick Searcy (who's always been a likable presence on the show) go full badass.

Compared to the prior season, this has the air of one of the earliest episodes, centering on keeping witnesses safe in the Protection program. Low-key is a great way to describe it. The upside is adding the exquisite Carla Gugino as a like-minded tough marshal. Spices things up and it's a great hat-tip to her brief stint as Karen Sisco.

And just at the last moment, the episode takes a turn with the into of Ellstin Limehouse. Kinda hard to take a guy with teeth like those seriously, but Mykelti Williamson makes him just about as scary as Quarles.

This show's just a rogues gallery of buffet of solid character actors.

Something stinks.

Warning: Spoilers
I have to admit I'm jumping the gun a bit on this review... I'm 28:30 in and I can't help but notice there is just something not "Up To Par" with this whole episode so far. This show has, mostly, had good writing, good character development and at times excellent acting... It's always had plot holes and wildly inconsistent continuity flaws, but not like this with almost purposeful bad acting and stunts added to it. Guest actors are clearly phoning it in, but the usual anchors of the series seem to be as well. I'd love to have some insight on what was going on during this week or so of shooting. Maybe they rushed it. Maybe I'm too critical and the last 13:00 will turn out to be a wild turn on the audience... Here goes nothing.
