Murder is not the answer
biorngm16 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
A longtime high-school football coach is the primary suspect in the murder of the high-school principal and coincidentally the weapon used also was used to shoot at a similar car of a TSA employee two weeks prior. A video of the coach is available to Major Crimes of an open-forum principal-parent-teacher meeting and another video of coach Carr arguing with the principal. The principal is new to the school, his declarations are academics first, then sports; he also has the coach transferring to another school. The school will be closed if the student grades do not improve; no athletic program period. Coach Carr argues for the students having nothing but the school, since their lives do not look promising without it. Word gets back to the students of the decision Principal Reed makes.

Captain Raydor wanted one more thing to tell Brenda but watching the video took precedence. When Chief Johnson turned around to inquire exactly what the captain wanted to add, she was gone; she left for Pope's office. Chief Pope and Commander Taylor hear firsthand of Captain Raydor's choice to resign, collect her captain's pension and enter the private sector. No doubt it was Taylor informing Major Crimes of her resignation, and thus notifying the informant as well.

The story leads to discovery of the weapon buried in the coach's backyard where he had been housing three of his students to protect them from their respective homelife.

Fritz informs Brenda the casings matched those taken from the TSA shooting, leading to the conclusion coach Carr had no reason to harm the TSA agent; he turns the case to LAPD; the FBI is passing it on. He tells Brenda Raydor is retiring, finding out from who else, Taylor. Brenda says Raydor can't quit, she has not found the leak yet. Fritz responds, you don't believe there is a leak. Brenda retorts, it doesn't mean I'm right, surprising her husband with such a response.

Agent Howard informs Brenda the gun found in Carr's backyard was registered to a Terrance Miller. Detectives looked, there is no connection to the principal or the coach with the ex-con Miller. Brenda had read Carr his rights, and he wanted an attorney. Interviewing Miller, Brenda learns the connection to Carr's student Lewis Rivers. Miller was shacking up with River's mother; he hid the gun at her place when he was sent to prison. Miller enters the breakroom recognizing Lewis, who attempts an escape from HQ, but captured at the elevators; Lewis confesses to the murder in front of several officers.

A student took it upon himself to make the world better by murdering the principal, and mistaking a TSA agent for Reed two weeks prior driving a similar car, same weapon used, the agent survived. Listening to the killer's statement while being handcuffed lends itself to the mentality of criminals, murder resolves the problem. Decisions made by Lewis Rivers and Coach Carr were wrong, both were overzealous, Lewis' was a felony. Poignancy was felt at the close with the coach, as told by Raydor and Brenda.

Captain Raydor greets Goldman as he exits the Carr home. A cold discussion begins with Goldman talking of the early retirement notice from Raydor, when she told Pope and Taylor she was resigning, moving on to another position outside the LAPD. She confronts Goldman about only the select few knew of her conversation, but in reality, she has no intention of ever retiring. Her intention was to prove the leak she suspected. Goldman refuses to provide the source. Raydor has now positive proof of the information leak that Brenda refuses to acknowledge.

The episode provides the quality production displayed throughout the series, it is never the story at fault, simply the professionalism of the actors; they do not disappoint performing their roles, great acting by all. A must watch for fans, superb performances by guest actors and top-quality from series' regulars, too.

Strong performance

This role is one of the best roles to be written no male could have done better. The strength to play a vulnerable woman and with being an even stronger women in charge of an all male staff is better. I would watch this show again and again.
