At time of writing IMDB has this 8yr old film down with less than 60 ratings and no views, it is the pinnacle of obscure independent horror and I had the honor of witnessing this.....wonder.
It's essentially a found footage style movie following a family experiencing unusual activity in their home and documenting their paranormal investigation.
The first problem is that the market is saturated with these types of films. They are ideal for independent filmmakers as they are incredibly cheap to make and are meant to look amateurish.
For this reason there is very little originality left. They all tend to follow the same formula and that wasn't a good thing to start with, all these years later we're simply burnt out on this generic copy and paste nonsense.
Paranormal Proof includes all the usual sub-genre tropes, but plays down the attempted jump scares or actual happenings.
It's lifeless, dull, overwhelmingly unoriginal and brings absolutely nothing to the table. The whole thing is simply recycled, we've seen every single frame before and knew where it was going at the same pace as the writer did when he was putting pen to paper.
Is this the worst of it's kind? No, but it's against so pretty dire competition for that title. Paranormal Proof isn't one I'd even recommend to fanatics of found footage movies, it's just awful.
The Good:
Script isn't the worst
The Bad:
Entirely unoriginal
Unengaging
Things I Learnt From This Movie:
Every movie of this ilk needs a scene where cupboards are randomly all opened overnight
Writing an original movie is hard so best just poach from others and put your name on it
