What starts like a whimsical short, soon turns into a dark and emotional tale of sacrifice, involving a pretty bleak and sinister view of afterlife...
Is amazing to think that less than 6 minutes where needed to tell a story like this one, with a pretty effective (albeit a little bit predictable) ending, which shows that not all the stories always have a happy conclusion.
That being said, I must say I had some mixed feeling about the animation style used in this short: On one side, the backgrounds were quite beautiful, with a perfect atmosphere in each frame. From the charming, almost dream-like beginning to the sinister mechanical after life, the short manages to create a fairly captivating world. On the negative side, the movement of the human characters felt a bit robotic in a couple moments. However, that is only a minor complaint taking in consideration how satisfying the overall result is. And it does not even a single word to evoke more feelings than your average Hollywood blockbuster.
7.5/10
