Great NCIS episode
acfurst25 May 2022
This was the best episode of the season, including the ones with Gibbs. There were ties to prior episodes this season (including several mentions of Gibbs), and every regular on the team had a strong role and great performance. Even Ducky had a lot of airtime, despite not being in all the episodes this season.

Parker became the central player and they developed his back story a bit, but the team was also very important here. It was pretty cool to see Parker's residence, and Kasie had an interesting connection to Parker with her interest in plants (Kasie has become a good quirky replacement for the quirky Abby).

If NCIS were to have another season (apparently they will), Parker's character had to be developed, so that was accomplished. He's not Gibbs, but that doesn't mean the show won't be interesting. They left the episode on a cliffhanger; I'll be looking forward to next fall's conclusion. Next season has a lot of possibilities, maybe bring back DiNozzo for a guest appearance, etc.

I agree with other reviewers that the Jimmy & Jessica romance is not a high point. Then again, it's not a huge negative for me. I didn't see the hint that Torres might be leaving (that someone mentioned); I hope not, because he's become a prime character, and provides the "macho" element that Gibbs used to bring, although Jessica provides some of that too. There are so few decent shows on tv today, I'd hate to see this one end. Keep it going! Mmm...kay? If you could do that, that would be great.

X-Wife a Jezebel . . .
garysteinweg24 May 2022
Admittedly, this episode was not one of the more "action-packed" episodes. However, it still had several "twists & turns". The "cliff hanger" came at the very end, of course. What I want to say is that I know who the last text message exchange was with. I clicked Yes for spoiler because my making a "big deal" out of the final exchange may lead others to come to the same conclusion. If so, don't reveal. OTOH, I could be completely wrong. Time will tell. UPDATE Aug 10 - (original post May 24) my guess is the last text message exchange was with Gibbs. It's doubtful anyone's going to be looking back at this episode's comments anymore. UPDATE Sep 19 - Welp, I was wrong. The text message exchange was with Fernel who shows up briefly, adds very little, then disappears. I changed the "spoiler alert" to No accordingly.

Some Love
AdollAdishAbone2 January 2023
After reading the other reviews I felt this episode needed some of the love it deserves. I love Gary Cole as Agent Parker, Gibbs' time had come and they did a great job with his exit earlier in season. However, I get the feeling many people are still upset with the departure then give new episodes bad reviews. Parker deserves a blank slate, an open mind from all the viewers and I think they'd come around. He adds MUCH needed levity to the head of the team that Gibbs had been lacking for some time. Also, it feels like people that say the new cast doesn't have any chemistry are watching a different show than what I am watching. I think the one thing this show has always done well is keep good chemistry amongst the main characters. I was afraid the loss of Bishop would have a much bigger impact than Gibbs leaving.but Agent Knight has been as good if not better than Bishop who tended to be mopey more often than not the last few seasons. I truly believe NCIS could have another 5-7 strong years if people just stop dwelling on the past and enjoy now and the bright future ahead.

A fine finale!
harrykivi4 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The 19th season is definitely not a great season. There have been only few surprising episodes in this season (quite liked "All Hands", "Docked" and "Thick as Thieves"). Every single season has had its fair share of bad episodes, this season is no different ("Peacekeeper and "First Steps" were pretty boring, "The Brat Pack" fell flat too). Even though I miss Gibbs, have nothing against Gary Cole. He has fit rather well in the team. "Birds of a Feather" is a fine finale to the 19th season. It's a decent episode, could have been better.

Let's start with the good.

. The production values of the episode are great. "Birds of a Feather" is well-directed, the music fits the scenery. The acting's very good all around. Gary Cole gives a solid performance, David McCallum is a delight, who will be missed. McCallum is so charming in the scenes he's in.

. The mystery is intriguing for the most part. Glad the audience learns more on Parker and the series continues along with the Raven storyline. Some jokes hit home.

But...

. The subplot about HR forms wasn't very entertaining, actually found it silly. I don't know who I feel about Knight and Jimmy getting together, but the scene with them felt rushed. The dialogue is a bit wooden at the beginning, some jokes miss the mark. Also the mystery could have benefited from less predictable twists. Didn't find the ending that shocking. Wished the season would have ended differently, I agree that a cliffhanger doesn't always work.

Overall, a fine finale!

6/10 HK.

Bottom line: confusing
CrimeDrama129 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Most of the CBS crime drama writers don't believe in writing scenes that are realistic and believable. This is a great example of them trying to hit a home run with a whiffle ball. Yes, I had experience with that during my childhood (hit it over the backyard fence). How many different suspects were there in this episode? It appears that Vivian faked her kidnapping to lure ex-husband, Alden Parker, to be kidnapped...or worse but what possible motive could she have? Also, if Parker and Vivian are SO close even though they are divorced, how is Parker so clueless? I have my suspicions on the next episode but it doesn't make me excited for season 20. I'm still glad Mark Harmon/Gibbs is not on the show anymore. The Palmer/Knight romance only exists to add tension to the team. No sign of conflict but it definitely feels forced. Who would have thought at the beginning that Palmer would have the most workplace lovers? His first lover, years ago, turned out to be a mole at NCIS.

A "Meh" season finale for a "Meh" season.
kenbur-0568824 May 2022
I mean really what is left to get excited about.

I mean the "romances" are getting tiresome and even Torres gave a foreshadowing of his future departure (if you were paying attention. ) Just give us a 2 hour series ender in the fall and wrap it up already.

Boring
jdgtc128 May 2022
There is little remaining chemistry with this cast. What's left is forced. The stories are boring. The writing is lazy, with boring, old contrived plots. Agent Parker is not Gibbs, and the loss of his character would have zero impact. Bring Gibbs and the original surviving cast back, and end this show with grace and dignity.

Another freakin' cliffhanger??? Really???
lotekguy-124 May 2022
NCIS has been running for19 seasons with #20 under contract. Do they really think it takes a principal in peril to get viewers back in the fall? If they've held an audience this long, even after losing their accustomed time slot AND Gibbs, who wouldn't be back in front of the screen in September without this curiosity gimmick? C'mon people. Have a little faith in your fans and don't leave us hanging. Lowest rating I've given any NCIS episode.

And... I'm done
koohii7 May 2023
The cast has been great. They've done the best they can with the crap material they've been given, but it's time to let go.

The writing for the hast several seasons has been tremendously uneven, and at best 1 or 2 episodes per year are ones that I'd watch again. (This was NOT one of them, even though it was slightly better than most.) So, I'm done.

I quit.

I will not be watching anything more where this show is concerned.

It has lost it's way, and nothing short of CBS purging the entire writing department and hiring fresh, new people will bring me back. Maybe not even then. Clearly, no one working on the show now understands what made it good and interesting. Go back and watch the first 2 years, people!

Sorry, but y'all should be fired.

Goodbye, NCIS.

Fortunately, I have the good seasons on disk.
