Warning: Spoilers
I can't believe we survived another Hellatus. Supernatural is finally back with one heavy episode. I can't deny I had a hard time finding proper words to describe this one. I watched "Out with the Old" three times already, The first time I was too excited to have the show back that I couldn't process it properly, the second time to digest that whole bunch of events and the third time to be able to write a proper comment about it. However to be completely honest I still can't and I'm confused about giving it an 8 or a 9 out of 10, so as usual I go with 9, So yeah I like it.

In a shot out to one of my favourite season three episodes "Bad day at black Rock", The boys run across a case where an antique store sells cursed objects, Only to collide with some Levaithans that act as real estate agents buying everything in town. Meanwhile Sam comes clean to Dean about his Lucifer hallucinations and we get a glimpse of how dangerous Sam's situation would be.(OH Poor poor Sammy)

Bits and pieces:

1- I know the budget might be a little too tight for the show, But I wish they would ditch the blood spatter thing it is being used way too much lately and as cool as it may be, it is starting too lose the awesome factor.

2- Lol at Dean watching Black Swan TWICE, "the depth of your..."

3- SO SO sad to see Sam trying desperately to fight the Lucifer hallucinations and it is heartbreaking that he doesn't even bother to finish the joke. :(

4- Oh yes, we finally see snow in the show, it's been a long time and it was a brilliant scenery to see the boys in.

5- Dean getting kicked in the face twice by a little girl, do I even need words?! (Though I wonder, Why didn't Daddy officer follow the strange FBI guys into the ladies-room where his girl was?)

6- It was hilarious to see Dean lovingly eyeing the Ballet shoes (and I can't imagine the scenarios that ran through fans' heads wishing to see Dean in them), Also seeing Sam run around on the street carrying those shoes made me laugh my fool head off.

7- Is it me or did that Scott guy seem stoned?

8- If you think a Ballerina that dances her self to death is gruesome, wait till you watch the Tea pot. (Only in supernatural you can really turn the most harmless objects to weapons of mass destruction, Lol) I literally hide my head with both arms on the first watch in front of my Laptop and then looked around checking to see if my parents were watching me and wondering if I have gone insane. I kept gasping first thinking she would chop her fingers off with this knife, only to find it much much worse, Kudos for the special effects team on that scene, now thanks to you I'm scared for life.

9- Okay okay I'm a detail freak but didn't it seem strange that the woman and the boy didn't seem to panic much when a strange man barged into their home?

10- Nice tip Dean, But were you advising Scott or yourself? Anyway I'm so glad that Dean seems to be getting his grip on things and we haven't seen him drink in a while.

11- Thought the MOTW story was wrapped up too soon, Nice weaving the Levaithan story into it and I really enjoyed Joyce and George.

12- I don't know about you, but I kept screaming at the screen " Wake up Sam" OMG I'm very scared for that man. And yes Sam, Sleep deprivation is torture, You ask me.

13- "you see a Winchester, you don't eat him, You tell me and I eat him"

14- Lucifer singing "stairway to Heaven", We should've seen that.

15- Sam and Dean in a gallery café, That right there is scary, Ha.

16- Sam here was in no shape to go through that fight, Luckily for him and for us, George was too tired of his boss.

17- Cure cancer! Yeah right like we don't know better.

18- Frank might not be my favourite but I'll be sad to see him go. We have dealt with enough losses already and I for sure will miss his snarky conversations with Dean.

Jensen Ackles gave us a new side of Dean, He is worried about his brother, he keeps giving out concerned looks and keeps telling Sam to get some sleep and though I was initially angry that he can't see how serious the problem really is (or he might be hoping that Sam would find a way to cope with it again), I was glad that he didn't force his will on Sam and trusting him on the job. However I wished Dean would slip something in Sam's drink, The guy needs to sleep or he will die.

Jared Padalecki, What can I say! I grew to love this man over the years and I have been re-watching some of the old episodes lately, only to notice how far he has grown as an actor. Sam is honest with his brother about his hallucinations, he is too tired, incoherent, impatient, nervous, resigned and has no energy to sympathize with others. And though we couldn't see Lucifer, Jared made him present through facial expressions, blinks and his nervous posture and Kodus for the make up team, for Jared really looked sleep deprived.

Any way get ready for next Friday, keep your napkins close for I will. The sneak a peek clip is heartbreaking already and I wonder how will the rest be. And finally, Congratulations Jared and Gen for Padababy.

Great Story and Magnificent performance of Mary Page Keller
claudio_carvalho26 February 2013
Dean and Sam head to Portland to investigate the mysterious death of the ballerina Irina Koganzon, who danced to death. The Winchester brothers discover that she was wearing a cursed ballet slipper and they go to the antique where Irina bought the shoes. They discover that the owner had just inherited the shop after the mysterious death of his mother and he had sold cursed objects that were kept in a safe. Dean and Sam retrieve the objects but soon they learn that the real estate agent Joyce Bicklebee is buying all the shops in that area, using her assistant George to help her. Dean asks Frank to help him to discover the secret of the real estate agent.

"Out of the Old" is a funny episode, with a great story. Mary Page Keller "steals" the show with her performance. I only do not understand why George was spared. My vote is eight.

Stairway to Heaven

Warning: Spoilers
What a brilliant episode!

Cursed objects all over the town (I mean seriously - ballet shoes, tea kettle, porn magazine, old gramophone, ...!). Of course we remember the wonderful Bad Day At Bad Rock and this episode takes out the old, but in a new light. There are also problems with Leviathans, and as the good old song from season 1(!) reminds us I See A Bad Moon Rising ♫.

When I remember the music, this episode has really No1 soundtrack - Swan Lake (the gradation when the ballet dancer lost her feet was stunning - with the close looks on the broom! They made fun, drama, horror and ballet in the opening of the episode - within minutes!!!) and its variations! (Listen closely, the whole beginning -Sam and Dean chasing the shoes- is filled with the motive!). Then the gramophone song, song that plays in the car Sam drives and Creedence Clearwater Revival in the end. Such a nostalgic atmosphere!(Do you remember that the song Bad Moon Rising played during the car crash in the last episode of season 1? In this episode, we are really close to the car crash - nice job writers!) And of course we didn't hear that, but Lucifer 's singing Stairway to Heaven 50 times in a row!

This episode was another one, in which we discover the brotherhood of Winchesters. Sam is sincere about his Lucy-problem, can't even sleep and for a minute I really believed he could've died. Dean cares about Sammy, trying to make him fall asleep. But the problems just fall on their heads and there isn't a lot of time to sleep. They find a mess in Fank's "residence".

I have to admit that Joyce Bicklbee got on my nerves like Dolores Umbridge in Potter series. "No..Nononono...no" and "a Grande non-fat no- whip white mocha, one pump sugar-free, double-shot espresso, 'kay?" Great job that the actress delivered.

Organised monsters
shwetafabm23 June 2020
As much as i like the organisation and the monster talk from seemingly normal people i still feel like this great leviathan thing was a letdown of sorts. I get what they went for and i'm okay with it, i just want more. Funny assistant but really stupid. The first half is typical crazy stuff, i love that but it's getting a bit old i guess, i did like the ballerina shoes

This works despite its slapdash quality
CubsandCulture23 April 2020
I suspect that at one point that this was going to be two episodes. It is pretty terribly disjointed between the cursed object plot and the Leviathan plot development. It is especially sloppy around Scott being really passive about the what is happening. But it overall works because Showalter manages to keep the tone consistent and does his best to hide the seams between the two stories. And Dean liking Black Swan is a fun character beat.

It also helps that George is a great side character and the red herring about the Leviathans helping humanity largely works.

Recycling more ideas.
mm-3921 March 2012
Supernatural is a very environmentally friendly show. Surpernatural is recycling old show ideas, and adding comedy to this season's episodes. The viewer should know not to take the sup-plot stories seriously. The tongue and check episode "Out with the Old" recycles the cures items story with comedy and Dean is brunt of the humor. The episode also focus on the main plot of what Dick Roman is up too. "Out whit the Old" is bridge episode which connects the recurring Dick Roman storyline. The storyline is why is Dick Roman buying everything? We know Dick has an evil master plan! The ending leaves the viewer hanging. I think the series is going to pick up from here on. I give "Out with the Old" seven out of ten stars.
