Can't wait for next season
soreal-bhadoria11 May 2012
OMG! That was a fantastic finale. can't wait for the 4th season premier. This episode was full of emotions and thrills. Finally Elena makes her choice and eye watering scenes. This was a Perfect finale after a little disappointing last episode. They could've done a much better job in previous episode than this after creating a negative character of Alaric.

I haven't read a single book of Vampire Diaries, so i can't compare it with anything but i surely love this show. They have done a brilliant job with the storyline and a great base for the next season and just hoping that they continue like this in the next season. On the whole 3rd season was brilliant with some Amazing starting 9 Episodes and last 5 episodes... and some bad episodes like 1912,Break on through...

If i have to pick "The Reckoning ,Heart of Darkness , The Departed " were the best episodes...... 10 stars to last episode and 9 star to season 3.

Just loving these Finales!!
ava79224 September 2019
Damn! I am just loving these finales! These are so good I am consumed. My oh my it is an epic ride!! The only thing I did wrong was watch half of The Originals first😓 So now I can't feel all the feels. Well, but the love triangle is still new to me. So there's that. Anyway, I'll still enjoy all that I can.

Awesome, come on with season 4

Warning: Spoilers
This was just an amazing final, I always wanted Elena to chose Stefan and I liked how she said goodbye to Damon, also the flashbacks of Elena in the drowned car and from Damon when he first met Elena,One thing I didn't like was that Alaric had to die because he was just awesome, I liked him and I wanted him back like he was before, Also the fact that Elena turns into a vampire is fantastic, I waited for her to become a vampire since the beginning of season three. And I have to add that Rebekah (Claire Holt) and Damon would be a perfect couple :) I hate it that Jeremy and Bonny had to break up but I really really really can't wait for season 4 to start! fantastic three seasons and I hope season 4 blows them away :)

this is the final straw
Like I said, the fun of Season One is long gone. And with what happens to Elena at the end of this episode... I just sat back and used a trusty old expletive followed by "I don't like this." First, Catherine, then Alaric, now Elena...? That said, though, Candice Accola's vampire performance has made her just even more unforgettable, so... I may yet be swayed...

And this episode delivers thrills and spills galore. I knew last time that it would not be goodbye to Klaus, but now, TVD-wise, he has been relegated to the spin-off show THE ORIGINALS (of which I know next to nothing about, although I've got Season One waiting in the wings). It kinda seems that Zack Roerig might finally be out of a job (guy probably came in late and left early anyway... :) I mean, anybody else found it funny that he is billed before Candice Accola?)

Welcome sight in this episode: Sara Canning as Jenna, albeit for back-flashes only.

Next season may see a somewhat reduced cast...? (yeah, I watch on DVD years after the event, and I don't peek up ahead...)

a great season finale for a less than awesome third season
jackDee-5656527 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I love this finale it was awesome lots of great stuff that was missing from the rest of the season, a game changing cliffhanger, a goodbye (not for long) to one of the series best characters, if only elena had just chose Damon in this episode instead of changing her mind in season 4 episode 6, overall great season finale

Pros of season 3, ripper stefan storyline and Alaric being the big bad in the last 3 episodes

Cons of season 3, too much drama, the originals family story goes nowhere, main character become very annoying, to much love triangle stuff, episodes 10-19 are the worst slum episodes of the series

Overall season 3 8.5 out of 10.

Let's See the Sequel of This Soap Opera
claudio_carvalho31 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Elijah returns to Mystic Falls and requests the corpse of his brother to Stefan and Elena to leave the town and Elena makes a deal with him. Damon is forced to agree to deliver Klaus to Rebekah and hides his coffin in a storage room. Bonnie asks Damon to leave her alone with Klaus for a moment. Meanwhile Sheriff Forbes and Mayoress Lockwood are deposed from their position by the council after being denounced by Alaric, and they ask Caroline and Tyler to leave town. Elena cannot decide between Stefan and Damon, and Matt and Jeremy drug her and Matt drives Elena out of Mystic Falls to protect her.

"The Departed" follows the shape of this terrible "Third Season": the "die-non-die" of The Originals; the boring "soap opera" romance of Elena, not sure whether she makes out with Stefan or Damon; and the annoying and spoiled eighteen or nineteen year-old Elena always deciding what to do instead of the two ancient and experienced vampires. The wooden Nina Dobrev was funny as Katherine; maybe she improves her performance on the next season as a vampire. My vote is five.

Season 3 is officially one of the worst seasons...
m-4782621 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What have they done to the show? It used to be so entertaining and well thought out. But they kept going on and on with a messy and contradictory writing. In this season finale, we learn Alaric will die when Elena does. Which is a good thing, because she just did. So why is he still on the show afterwards? Esther was the only one capable of breaking the binding spell. So him returning next season, makes no sense. Also, we get to witness Elena making a choice between the two brothers. And she chooses Stefan, giving Damon the same exact platitude as Matt, a couple of years ago. So why does she picks him, next season? Because they actually met first? I don't get it, it's completely illogical. And shows writers, decided to go the vocal fandom's way afterwards, instead. Which begs the question, who wrote the show? Them or the fans?... At one point I thought I was watching a cheesy slasher, when Rebekah entered the warehouse, searching for Damon. And now they pull the dirtiest trick with Klaus not being dead, and possessing Tyler, with Bonnie's help?! How ridiculous is that? Wasn't she supposed to stop being a doormat? I think they should've had Elijah take Klaus's body, honor his part of the deal. And maybe have the Original family come back in a two hours special, next season. Before launching their own spin-off series, with Klaus's triumphant return. That way, no more Hybrids nonsense, and Tyler's drama. Which was what dragged most of 4A down. Not to mention Elena's brave face... Why didn't Stefan rescue both at the same time? Are his powers getting rusty underwater? It makes for a tragic and heart wrenching scene. With that tear jerker song. But it's a lazy cop out. Even though the season ends on a depressing note, it's only a tempest in a tea pot. Because vampire Elena takes over, and most of what happens will be erased later. By bad fan service.

Potential Deaths
vivianla12 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Very emotional episode. By far the most in the series I think.

Elena has a dream of a flashback in her life. She has Pink's So What on the radio and dances. She put on her cheerleader outfit and goes down to meet Jenna. Elena says Jeremy locked himself in the bathroom and Jenna replies they know what he is actually doing, he is 14.

Jeremy and Matt get together to get Elena out of town without anyone else knowing.

Damon hides the body inside a garage-looking place. Matt is driving Elena when news that Alaric had come and killed Klaus is announced. Matt tells Elena he can drive back to Stefan or keep going to Damon. We don't know who will die yet because they are not sure who is in Klaus's bloodline.

Tyler starts to turn again and Caroline cries.

Rebekah goes to Elijah and Elijah wonders why none of them has died - only Tyler. Bonnie however tells someone to come out and it is Klaus in Tyler's body. She saved everyone.
