As the battles commence, the premise is simple: one song - two voices - one winner. Each battle sees two artists from the same team compete against each other in a vocal showdown. After each battle, the artists' own coach must decide who will progress to the knockout stage - and who will be sent home. But it's not quite over for the losing artist. The other coaches can steal a losing artist for their own team. Each coach gets two steals - if they missed out on an act during the blind auditions, this is their chance to finally grab them.

The coaches watch each of their eight contestants perform and must choose the best three acts from their team to continue on to the live shows. Rita and will.i.am pit their remaining artists against each other to compete in one last round before the live shows. It is now the artists who take control - they must each choose one 'killer song' that they think will give them the best chance to impress their coach. Which of Rita's acts, including Welsh school teacher Joe Woolford, Liss Jones or duo DTwinz, will she choose to take to the next round? On will.i.am's team are acts including Essex rapper Brooklyn, former YouTube sensation Esmee Denters, and the first classical Irish opera singer to have ever reached the knockouts, Lucy O'Byrne. Tensions and adrenaline run high as the artists give the performances of their lives to make it through the knockouts and on to the live shows.
