Absolute trash, but still one of Mikels's best movies

INVADERS FROM CYBERSPACE is the fourth and thankfully last in the series of ASTRO ZOMBIES movies started by cult director Ted V. Mikels back in the 1960s. This is a film almost exactly the same as its predecessor, CLONED, although it has even less of a storyline if that's possible. Once again the infamous Astro Zombies are on the prowl, using machetes to slice their victims to death, while a bunch of assorted army staff and scientists have to team up to find a way to stop them.

This amateur film is a near-endless barrage of cheap and tacky sci-fi effects and cheesy gore scenes. In terms of quality it's an absolute dog, but as I said in my review of the previous entry in the series, it's mildly entertaining which means that it's better than 99% of the director's output. I did find that INVADERS FROM CYBERSPACE picked up at the climax with one hilariously cheesy scene after another in quick succession, but only those who really like trashy movies will enjoy this nonsense.

Spare no one

This is number 4 in the series dating back to 1968. Astro Zombies (not really zombies) live in cyberspace and can only come out of a computer when someone turns one on, which you would think would not be an issue. They have laser beams that shoot out of their eyes. The first kill was a cool skeleton remains like "Mars Attacks" and after that they resorted to cheap blood splatter.

The film is designed to be campy and funny, I did not find it to be clever at all. The man has been making films for 50 years and can't afford a decent microphone that doesn't project a hollow sound. The quality of the film is about what you would expect from the old Polonia Brothers or early Brain Damage films, The acting was horrible by design, but without decent lines, they can't make the film campy. Hardcore Ted V. Mikels fans only.

The fourth film in the series (!!!!!) has director Ted V. Mikels back in the director's chair. The story starts off on the World of the Astro Zombies where the zombie leaders are talking about the various ways they've tried to destroy Earth but have failed. We then learn that their latest plan involves attacking humans through the internet, cell phone and other devices that they use each and everyday. ASTRO ZOMBIES: M4 isn't going to win any major awards but I must say that it kept me entertained from start to finish and that it's easily the best film in the series. Yes, I know that might not be saying too much but there's just a certain charm here that's hard to deny if you've enjoyed the director's work or at least find him charming. I'm always thought Mikels was an excellent person to listen to because of the joy he brings to a conversation and that there is fully on display here. I'm guessing the budget was just a few thousands dollars here but instead of letting that hold anything bad, instead the director takes it and actually uses it to his benefit. The special effects here are downright awful. They look fake. They're cheap and they just are so downright bad on every level. However, none of that is a negative thing because the director takes these cheesy effects and makes them fun. When you see the Astro Zombies blast someone whose head then blows off...it's rather funny. The scenes of humans melting into skeletons are down so cheaply but it's fun. The entire film seems to have been made so that Mikels could gather up some friends and have fun. Obviously this means many of the performances are horrid with several people having trouble getting through their lines but this really doesn't matter as it just adds to the charm. As with the previous films, this one here has some over-the-top gore, which helps keep things moving. Obviously those seeking "serious" cinema are going to hate this film but this is the perfect excuse to kick back with a few beers and have fun.

I had to come here as I was seriously misled by the only evaluation here. The film is just painfully bad. The acting leaves much to desire. The sci effects, well do not let me get started, what special effects? Gore? What gore? Some red ink splashing the screen....my god. The robots/zombies are not better than clothe store dummies. It would help more people would commenting. The only comment present was (is) *very* misleading. The film, while already bad for the time, has not aged well, and this is writing a nice comment. Do not seriously waste your precious time seeing this movie. It really is not worth it. Yes, it is that bad...I would strongly advise selecting another movie. Z-Nation compared to this is a master piece of cinema.
