Slow narrative pacing in favor of a solid plot
fabiolafrastimarezetti22 February 2022
The last episodes of Attack on Titan are covering one chapter of the original material each. I guess that this means that the story won't be concluded with Part 2 at this point and probably left for a movie or a Part 3. The plot is interesting as always, there are some old acquaintances returning in this episode (finally!) but the story pacing is as slow as the first season now (which is not bad, but could be a bit faster). Overall a good episode that sets the ground for future events.

The sun sets on whats to come
and_mikkelsen22 February 2022
To me this was a nice breath of fresh air, after the last couple of crazy episodes riddled with plot twists and action! Instead this episode was character focused, with small, satisfying moments! The animation is superb as always, with the colossal titans looking really good! Now i am just excited too see what moral descissions our characters .will make.

Great Character-Centered Episode
MamadNobari9722 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After getting to see Gabi change into a more rational person, we now get a look into a lot of characters.

This episode is a character-focused one and it focuses on characters that we haven't seen for a long time or that hadn't have much screen time in these later seasons.

We get to see how Armin feels about being the one to inherit the Colossal Titan and his internal conflict about all the things going on around him. And it's kinda great that he talked sense into Mikasa, because she's been one-dimensional this whole season, at least to me.

And Armin talking about why Connie shouldn't feed Falco to his titan mom because that just makes the cycle of revenge and violence continue, is the central theme of the anime and it is why I'm now glad that Gabi is still alive even though I still hate her for what she did on the ship.

We see how the words of Armin and Hitch have changed Annie throughout the years she's been in ice. I hated Annie in the season 2 and how she just didn't give up and die. But I'm liking this turnaround of her character and she's becoming more likeable.

We get to see Connie and Falco together which is a weird combination that I wasn't expecting, and I'm really looking forward to see what's gonna happen to them next.

Floch is batsht insane like he was in the first half of the season.

We don't see Eren once in this episode. I don't even know the last time I truly felt like Eren was doing the right thing. Since season 4 started, I don't even know who root for.

Overall, it was a great episode for characters like Armin, Annie and also Gabi. I'm just wondering how they're gonna wrap up all these plots and storylines in just 5 episodes.

Shinzo wo Sasageyo!
aboalhyjaa22 February 2022
Yes, this episode didn't have the action most of us wanted but it contained things a lot more important. Our characters feelings and their reactions on their relationships after what Aren did!

The scene with Armin and Mikasa forces me to give this episode a 10 out of 10 and yet its not the best scene in the episode. Wanna know what is? LEVI ACKERMAN IS BACK!

Isayama knows politics very well
rezaa-0131123 February 2022
Why it took 2 days to make a page for this Episode? It ruiend the hype for this episode. We seen backstory of around 20 characters in total. AOT is the best series at character development.

Pure story telling genius
udaythepokemonmaster24 February 2022
I normally wouldn't write reviews on great shows like attack on Titan cause it does it so well there are no need for words. But, this episode in my opinion is a special kind of episode not because it has mind blowing animations or actions but has the power to set the ball rolling and makes you excited for some sort next arc or phase of the story, which it does without distraughting the pace or the impact of the current character revalations or story plots. And, this is done so effortlessly, which infact is very difficult to pull off even for the very best of tv shows and cinemas.

Solid
tinlittlenerd22 February 2022
Not every episode needs insane action or crazy plot twists. Transitional episodes like this are essential to making the story flow. It's a solid, necessary episode, nothing more nothing less.

An Excellent Adaptation
Qoenntrell22 February 2022
Rumbling shots this episode had significant improvement and Mappa's Annie CDs look fantastic, maybe an improvement from S4P1 even. Almost every scene so far in 125 had been elevated from the manga, for example the anime original addition of Annie's POV in the crystal, highlighting the darkness she endured over 4 years, and the nightmarish shots of the marching CTs with a sunset backdrop that's just wallpaper material.

I applaud the choice to use the instrumental version of the ED while credits roll over Connie and Falco's scene which not only allowed for more content to fit into this episode but also made the scene more emotional, which fit well as it transitioned to the after credits scene where we are met with a slick Levi CD. I'm pleasantly surprised and satisfied that Mappa managed to keep up the quality of these episodes, so I'm just as excited for the rest of the season as with the first 5 episodes.

Annie's Story
Adam-0926522 February 2022
No spoiler as we found out in the last episode that all the hardening was undone thus breaking Annie free.

Not a potentially big episode but still great as always. We focus more on Annie's goals reflecting the paths she's taken and her intentions on getting back home. Armin and Mikasa's debate on Eren. Connie's focus on getting his mother back and Floch's continuation on power play.

Like i said in the review for the last episode, the atmosphere for this series has changed since the rumbling and a mist of depression and even desperation flows from character to character. The story is intense at this point and keeps on giving.

Seeing Hange near the end with Levi's body could tease a possible Levi return before the end of the series.

A slowed down episode but tensional all the same.

9.0/10.

Great Episode
BadgerStorm434523 February 2022
This episode does a great job at portraying the hopelessness of the situation the characters are in while also not doing anything major as far as the plot goes. The animation and music as always is great and the character moments in this episode are fantastic.

A great reminder that victory never comes without cost in war for either side
mattxrt22 February 2022
Collateral damage, internal politics and prisoners of war are a big focus of this episode as you can feel Attack on Titan slowly wrapping up any loose ends as it approaches the finale.

It's easy to think "Hey we won, everythings gonna be fine and dandy now" when in reality, it's rarely if ever the case in times of conflict. Just cause Eren has saved his people doesn't necessarily mean there is gonna be peace in the world now. Existing internal divisions and politics threaten to tear apart the lives of the Eldians and it's pretty obvious at this point things are gonna get much worse before they get better. The collateral cost resulting from the rumbling are starting to split apart the Eldians on how they view Eren, and how they treat the survivors on the losing side and how they deal with Reiner, Annie, Pieck, Falco and Zeke from this point on may very well decide if the Eldians end up repeating the same mistakes as their predecessors and that of Marley.

Also I never thought I'd be excited to see and feel bad for Annie of all people but I guess it just once again goes to show what a fantastic job Hajime Isayama has done of blurring the lines between good and evil & right and wrong, that I no longer feel the same animosity towards her now that I felt in Season 1 for her actions.

8.5 A well-needed break from all the reveals and action.
nucleus-2471823 February 2022
This episode shakes people out of denial of what Eren is doing. Annie has now un-hardened and we get to know more of her backstory. A constant flaw in AOT is it's use of flashbacks. They constantly interupt the story and pacing to make us care about some person. It's like pointing a gun at you and saying, "CARE." This was thankfully already built up with past fragments of her past and the pacing wasn't interupted as it was already slow.

Not much happens in this episode apart from some few and far-between character moments. It practically leaves us in the exact spot we were last time.

Why????!
drnarimantavakoli22 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It doesn't make sense, why would Hange do something like that? Negotiating with people who killed her comrades. They started it, Marleyans started the war by killing all those innocent people from Paradis Island.

How many Scouts did they murder. Now all of a sudden she goes to Marleyans for help.

It's an insult to Erwin's death and all the scouts who put their lives to protect the island.

Nice Conversations and deep look Episode.
hosam-6923322 February 2022
This episode gave us a deep look at the past and present of some characters, the conversations were good and I loved them too, and there were no scenes of the main event and the plot, but it was necessary to know some information about the main or important characters, especially Annie's past.

One of the best episodes of the best season of AOT
JonyVeana22 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I love this episode, the sunset orange palette of Mappa is just so beautiful, the dialogue and heavy suspects of this episode we're amazing, it really felt like the sun was about to disappear and you start to think and contemplate about your life and mistakes like a lot of characters in this 20 minutes, Annie backstory was somehow sad, the other people like Zeke, Eren, Reiner they had goals, but Annie doesn't have anything like that, she doesn't care about anything until now, now her goal is reunite with her father.

I personally think this 7 episodes of the final season part 2 are the best of the entire show, it feels very cinematic and like another completely anime compared to seasons one and two, i think the next on based on the preview it's going to be the same, with a lot of good dialogue and heavy moments.

Much better than last week
bardy922 February 2022
Better cinematography, dialogue, music and direction than last week. The Annie stuff is fascinating and set against the devastating backdrop of the rumbling. Armin's words to Mikasa were chilling - and I think that's what makes this episode work. The dialogue is really excellent, and displays moral dilemmas and questions asked by the entire show. I also really enjoyed the Jean and Floch scene - it was very well directed yet didn't feel overblown like some of Floch's "evil" scenes have. I still have a few problems with how ugly some of the camera focus is, and nothing groundbreaking happened but overall a really enjoyable and mature episode.

A generous 10 but an excellent episode
kbahoura23 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Excellent episode once: There's no action scenes, there's no insane revelations, just very good interactions between characters. It reminds of GoT because the best parts of GoT are when 2 great characters are talking, even if what they say is useless, but just the way they talk, the tension going on and their acting made some scenes incredible, and I can give a ton of example: Tyrion asking for Casterly rock, the news of Robb's death, Ned and Robert's final words etc. And this episode of AoT reminds me of the same:

I love the backstory of Annie and her dialogue explaining her choices to Hitch, I loved the part with Keith Sadies (who by the way always thought he wasn't special after all but became such a great instructor who help Eren and the rest becoming what they are and is doing the same for the next generations), I loved the Frock part and I really wanna see what's gonna happen with Jelena and the rest, I loved the Connie part with Falco, and finally I absolutely loved the part with Hanzi and I'm pretty sure it's a trap and Livai is actually well alive and ready to defeat Peak.

Anyway, all in all I loved every interactions in this episode and I just can't wait to see what's gonna happen.

One of the best episodes in the series
laboomlaboom24 February 2022
If I'm honest, this episode was incredible. Sure, it didn't have much action nor any major cliffhanger or reveal, but it showcased the reality of the conflicts soldiers face in real war. What happens when you have to take captives, how people can change once they become the hunters and not the hunted, how some people have to keep moving forward when they believe something, even if it betrays their body or friends. 10/10.

Some good moments
derektomas24 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Floch's speech was excellent, Armin and Mikasa had a good moment, so did Connie and Falco. But the focus of this episode-Annie's backstory-was underwhelming. We already knew about this and it was the worst backstory about a character I care very little about.

The fumbling begins, the decline is here.
EddyTheMartian00723 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Pretty lame episode. Annie's back and we get half of the episode dedicated to her backstory, which is one of the weakest for any character, and pretty much a waste of time since we had already seen most of it previously. Armin arguing with Mikasa was a solid scene though, and worked better in the anime due to the voice acting, than the manga. Though I felt this episode had some moments that were unintentionally funny, like Armin just says he should've died, rightfully, and then Mikasa is like "where's muh scarf." Probably the peak of the episode was Floch and his epic speech. He's gonna carry this arc! We also get confirmation that Levi is alive, which is pointless, he should've died because of Zeke in my opinion. Hange teaming up with Pieck, yuck, you can already see where this is going. Also I cannot stand Connie, what a dumb character, and the dialogue with him and Falco was so hammy, it felt like a joke. It's been so long since they've played a scene over the credits and this is what they picked?! You're gonna notice that a lot this arc, bad humor, sillier plot, the rumbling is happening and there's no urgency or stakes. I do like how we saw the casualties of it already though. Regardless this wasn't a bad episode, it was just okay, but it's further hurt by the redundant Annie backstory we've already seen. Next episode is gonna be one of the worst, but hey who knows maybe the anime will fix it or at least adapt it better than in the manga.

Warning: Spoilers
Levi survives for no reason other than plot armour and the fact hes an ackerman. He was blown up by a thunderspear, ones we've seen take down titans but he lives because hes stronk. Hange negotiating and teaming up with pieck makes no sense other than its dire straits for both of them. Episode feels lazy, couldve been executed much better i have no clue how it got an 8.5. I never liked Levi he just wins half the time because hes good at using odm its boring. I will say floch's ruthlessness and his speech was pretty good but thats all this episode really had going for it. Armin shouting at mikasa was ok i guess but then Armin goes on to cry about how he shouldnt have been saved again, like please shut up.
