Warning! The Ballot Box Has Been Stuffed Here!
geasteru30 July 2014
This is exactly what is wrong with this site. Look at the other people who have reviewed this film and raved about it. This is the ONLY film that ANY of them have ever reviewed. This movie cost $12,000 to make, and it shows...badly. In this age, for a REAL film, $12,000 is about what the catering service gets paid. The expression, "You get what you pay for" seems to have fallen on deaf ears of these people and now they are trying to generate excitement the new-fashioned way, by logging on with different screen names and trying to polish their $12,000 turd into an emerald, one fake review at a time. While I've seen worse films, those were mostly high school student projects using Super-8 film cameras.

Youthful superheroes on a budget
Leofwine_draca3 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
BOMB SQUAD is an indie superhero flick aimed at a young adult audience. It feels a little like X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, which was the obvious inspiration here. The story is about a group of kids battling evil, and it does have a fast-paced plot that helps you take your mind off all the usual problems associated with independent cinema. The limited CGI effects offer cheesy fun but this film needed more oomph to be a success.

decent for a B-Movie

Watched this film on prime, not brilliant but watchable. Special effects not to bad considering the budget. May be a sequal coming?

Not bad for a $12,000 movie
moustasch17 April 2012
This movie plays like a made-for-TV pilot for one of the kid's channels. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad movie, but for $12,000 you can't expect too much.

The acting is pretty wooden by just about everyone and the story feels like it's missing about half of what it needed so that you'd care about anyone. For something done as cheaply as this the effects are really pretty good (much better then most every movie made for Syfy). If this were a TV pilot I'd probably watch a few episodes to see if it were going to get any better. The movie ends like there might be a sequel. I don't see there being a big demand for it, but for 12K there probably will be.

Hopefully they'll get a big enough budget next time so they can include acting lessons.

LOW BUDGET MST LAUGHER
nogodnomasters17 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The film opens with 3 men in ski masks (and no gloves) robbing a guarded building of its glow sticks. On their way out they encounter the evil Wraith, a man in a black cloak hoodie and a cheap demon voice echo enhancer...oooooh scary, Darth Maul move over. These guys all have special powers, i.e. stop bullets, create fire, create lightning, and influence people with their glow in the dark contacts.

The movie shifts to 8 years later. Two of the Freeman kids visit super dad in prison and he imparts some of his power to them who in turn touch their siblings who also get power, turning them into a mini "Fantastic Four" to the dismay of their doting mother. It is during their visit he recaps the plot, leaving a lot of stuff out so we feign interest. The acting was extremely bad. The plot reminded me of something I saw in an X-Men movie, with Uncle Sam hunting down the mutants. Bianca Freeman (Erin Kupay), who appears she might of had a year of drama studies, is the closet thing to an actor in this film. The title "Bomb Squad" is from a virtual game one of the pimply faced boys play. He wanted to call his group the "Bomb Squad" with cool, if not meaningless nicknames, but no one else wanted yo go along. So they weren't really called the Bomb Squad except to one kid...but hey what else are you going to call it? "Stolen X-Men Script" Who's going to watch that?

The bad dialogue, acting, and filler material dragged down the film. These are things that a writer-director has control over and don't cost a dime more. Your ten year old might like it.

No f-bombs, sex, or nudity.

Not great, but OK.

Warning: Spoilers
So I watched this on Amazon Prime, I didn't know anything about it, including the budget.

I thought the story could have used more tightening up. However, while I thought that the acting could use some work, particularly among the supporting adult cast, the main characters all seemed to be at least watchable(Not really good...but not bad).

My biggest annoyance was the lack of realism on the part of the soldiers.

If a secret government organization ( or the military) is after you, your cell phone would be tracked, and I wouldn't recommend driving the same car you normally do.

Also, I'm not sure if I missed something, but if the military already knows where you live (and your mother) why would they ask the school for your address? Was the dad somehow wiping the information from them constantly?

And if they already knew before(which isn't clear), then why wouldn't they have been monitoring(electronic devices etc), these 'potential threats'. Was the dad stopping it somehow?

Just a few details that made me wonder.

The special effects...while nothing mind blowing, I didn't really have much of a problem with.

AFTER I looked it up, and found out the budget, I would say I am actually quite impressed with it. For just $12,000 it was outstanding.

As another reviewer said, it was better than some kid show pilots.

This movie blew my mind
darkminx213 April 2012
Coming out as an independent film, I expected this movie to be very spotty and missing a lot of detail. The movie left open enough room for not only a second movie which would be absolutely phenomenal but they may also choose a prequel if ever wished upon.

Likes I had about this movie include its well rounded story line which was focused on a single center focus while each scene added suspense to what the next move was going to be. Also, the emotional aspect behind each character as more spread out.

I feel this film could have added a little more outside dynamic such as outdoor interaction, but for a film that cost approximately $12,000 to make, I am in awe to its greatness.

Pretty good for a low-budget film!
vlb23 July 2017
I was surprised that this was a $12000 budget movie. The acting is good, the plot is fun. I enjoyed it.

There are a lot of "B" movies. This is one of the better ones. The effects were very good for low-budget. I'd be happy to watch a sequel.

The person who claimed reviewers are "stuffing the ballot box" should stop complaining.

If you enjoy fun, well-plotted movies with believable characters you wouldn't mind knowing in real life, this is one of those movies.

Unexpected excellence for a non Hollywood production. Warning: Spoilers
I come from the era of the B movie, so I've seen a lot of low budget films, and even a lot of high budget films with bad actors or bad scripting, so I didn't really expect much from something made mostly under one person that appears to be in college.

This movie blew my mind. The acting was up to par with a lot of Hollywood high budget movies. There were some lame parts, but if you've never noticed some top actors that make millions get away on looks and stereotype and can barely act either, so these actors were excellent (and actresses of course).

The story line about grown kids visiting their father in prison and suddenly strange things start to happen (I won't go into any spoilers here) was riveting and well done enough to keep you going, like reading a book where you just had to turn the next page to see what was going to happen.

The special effects may not have been Star Wars class but they were far beyond Battle Beyond the Stars or The Last Starfighter, both excellent for their time.

The question isn't does Nick Chamberlin have a future in show business, it's which they grab him for first - director of music, film or special effects, or will he simply be the next Steven Spielberg.

Look out Hollywood. Here comes the Chamberlins
wilmod5211 May 2014
There are those who would disagree, but with only a $12,000 budget, I wouldn't consider this a B movie. It is well done and leaves me wanting to see a sequel. I am also fiftyish, have collected comic books, and grew up on 50's and 60's sci-fi. This movie is as good as any other movie of its genre with bigger budgets. Nick Chamberlin could very well be the Roger Corman of today (2011 until...). The acting could have been better, although I thought that the general and the captain were good. The script is as good as it can be and is well thought out. It is surprising that Bomb Squad is crafted so well with practically no money. It is a must watch for any budding filmmaker out there. They do not have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to make a good film.

An excellent movie.

Warning: Spoilers
I had an enjoyable time watching Bomb Squad and am hoping for a sequel, or that it gets made into a series. When you take into account that it had a 12k budget. (I cater for the entertainment industry and have invoiced the catering bill alone at over 12k on many productions.) Living close to Hollywood I see a lot of student productions and I feel this one did a good feature length movie for the price of a short or a commercial. That's a great accomplishment in itself. Then to have it come out good enough to leave the watcher wanting to see what happens next, that's better then a lot of high budget ones you see in theaters. It may look like a "made for TV" movie (to some)but hey I like TV. I'm a 50+ year old comic book kid. I did not read the review/comments first (thankfully) as too many gave spoilers or over critiqued everything (couch quarterbacks)and might have made me pass on a movie that I enjoyed.
